  1. Yes E 20 is good for performance, E85 even better but not everywhere available and results in much higher fuel consumption. If you have ever time just stop once in the evening at the PTT station at the 10 baht tollway Bangkok - Cheang Watthana. Every evening around 10pm you will find a lot of tuned cars, they for sure can confirm what I claimed and you can find very good tuners in their midst.

  2. Ethanol blended fuel has more potential but needs more volume. My VW Flex car in Brazil got more Hp on E100 (more like E95 to stop people drinking it) but got less Km/L.
    From Wikipedia "
    • 1.0L VHT 72 hp (76 hp Ethanol) producing 95 Nm (104 Nm Ethanol) @ 3850 rpm

About 600 km per tank on "benzine' but only about 450 on E100!

When comparing one has to calculate in baht/km just as one would if comparing LPG!

You are correct, ethanol gives more power, I have a BMW M5 and I use E 20 all the time. If you want to get full potential from ethanol the car should be tuned to this fuel mix otherwise it won't do any good.

  3. Old Pepsi warehouse next to The River sold. Soon to be 70 story tower.

Bubble popped two years ago after coup. Market frozen. Real estate world in Bangkok grim.

But hey, hat do I know. Jump in. Water feels good!

You know something but I am not really impressed..
Nobody started building yet (mistake1) it is not old Pepsi property but Est Cola(mistake2), it didn't take 10 years to realize project (mistake 3) All the River units are sold but not all occupied. (mistake 4)
Ooh yes, sorry you are right about the water, feels good indeed!

  4. The River is another troubled project that is depreciating rapidly. 10 years of stop and start construction allowed developer to claim appreciation. Not true. What lead to higher prices was the project (more or less) being complete.

Still less than 50% occupied with the new owner(Dumb Singapore money clueless about ThAiland) renting unsold units on a daily rate.

Now with the the new tower raising just east of it, half the units will have thier view blocked.

No no way anyone could sell a unit there unless they went far below "market" price. Hundreds available.

I suppose you are referring to another project, the construction was delayed for maybe one year, not more. I look out of my window and see no other tower being constructed which could obstruct the view..

  5. The world will be severely effected in the near future.  It is a question of labor price, production rates and convenience.  With a five year write off can pay a fair amount for something that will work 24 hours a day, no complaints or concerns over working conditions, or age, will produce the same as 10 or 100 workers.  In the future will be mostly a matter of desire to have a face to face contact.  Accounting, stock analysis, and recommendations, serving food, making food, transportation, can all be handled in a quicker manner with AI.  Question is what to do with 50% of the population that isn't flexible enough to take on a new career due to age, smarts, physical limitation, personality, and experience. A lot of the new jobs will involve working with people.

We can't stop evolution and your assumption that 50% of the population will be left behind will create a very dangerous situation. If these 50% have nothing to do, they are capable of destroying everything..

  6. Yes, it's a great place and you'll be getting a monorail soon, but I always chuckle when chaopraya living is considered hiso waterfront location. It's a giant garbage dump.

The River is being flushed every rain season and besides the hyacinths I don't see much floating. But I do hope regulations in the future will prevent what you describe..i love to wake up and be able to see the horizon

  7. I bought my condo 5y ago and the only reason was just to have my own place. After 5y value is still more or less the same and renting out would really not yield great returns. Although prime location next to the Chao Phraya river.
It is very dangerous to compare HKK real estate market with Bangkok. The insane high price per m2 in HKK is because of the limited surface area of HKK while Bangkok has a very large surface area with potentially different centers. Sukhumvit area also has condos with quite high values per m2 but IMO has reached it's maximum. There are just too many other areas in the vincinity which offer the same conditions. There is maybe no real estate bubble yet but possibly one in the making.

  8. and the driver possibly did not have a legal license, if one at all.  Anyway BMW drivers are above the law in Thailand so a small fine 10,000 baht fine and away to do it again .  Thainess at its ugliest.

I am very interested in your bold statement that BMW drivers are above the law..
Can you be more specific? Do you mean X1, X3 ...X6 or series 5,7 ? I really would like to know in which category you put me (M5) and my wife (X3).
If the accident would be caused by a pick up, would the brand really matter? I see reckless drivers in all types of cars...Anyway, enjoy your Mitsubishi Atrage or similar :)

  9. You ask for solutions, I would advice to look for feasable options and removing or silencing kids is not one of them. Try to go with the flow not against...
If the noise is really a nuisance, other residents will also complain. If so the juristic department will have to take action to solve the noise problem. I would suggest to cover the walls with sound absorbing materials which, if well selected, could be esthetic as well.

  10. If you have to pay an allowance to her.. it should tell you everything.
10 years here and TV members still amaze me..

22 years here and pay allowance for the last 17 years with pleasure. You are amazed?
To the OP, I am not really surprised by your story, it is really unbelievable how may miscommunications and misunderstandings happen even between Thai.
I always have the impression that if they can understand it wrong, they do...
I understand your frustration but in this case she was disconnected from her daily environment and thus more prone to disorientation, add to that the different dialect and you get all ingredients for a perfect storm.

  11. I am nearly sixty, but I still have the same hair volume since I was a young boy. Yes gray hairs become dominant but they still grow fast. I have to go to the hairdresser every month. I wash my hair daily with a cheap wash and go shampoo. So I am convinced it is 90% genetical. This should be good news but it isn't...my girl friend and her friends think Jason Statham is the most sexy man on earth.. go figure!

  12. We live in a non touristy area in (almost) the middle of nowhere.

I feel very welcomed by my wife's tropical garden, the climate (September-March), the house & swimming pool that I built.
The local Thais (incl family) are neither particularly welcoming or non welcoming - I have little in common with most of them. I concentrate on a few and ignore the rest.
The government officials are very unwelcoming, but hey, they don't even welcome their own countrymen.....
As for the touristy places, I have never been there, but I guess they are full of money hungry Thais trying to take advantage of sex & alcohol hungry farangs. Not my problem.

April - august we spend in Europe - another part of the world that is neither particularly welcoming or unwelcoming.

    Your wife's tropical garden....nicely put 555
By the way I am Belgian to :)

  13. No witnesses, so it is one piece of circumstantial DNA, a money transfer and the testimony of a cleaning lady who worked in his Condo complex. I suspect this will be going to the Appeal Court. To be satisfied of guilt beyond all reasonable doubt, I would have liked to have seen something a bit more concrete.

Such as? Missing finger in his stomach?

  14. Probable scenario..

Turnover for many Thai is equal to profit.

After 2 months she will be bored and ask for an assistant and from there you have another 3 months before closure. Classic business is coffee shop, selling clothes, food shop, hair salon, bar. Above scenario can be applied to all. As many posters advice better give her a monthly allowance than a business.
