  1. Red-shirt followers wore white headbands bearing the acronym “sor por por Lanna” ( the Democratic Republic of Lanna People) to welcome caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra

Some of the red shirts also carried little red and white flags as they cruised around the district in motorcycles to give morale support to Ms Yingluck.

  2. If he actually wanted to end the conflict, the meetings should be private.

So both sides can spend the next six months disputing non-stop what they and the other side said.

Put in on live nation-wide television thus eliminate the above needless nonsense; remove all secrecy and increase the transparency that Yingluck is always harping about, but never following through with.

  3. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Typical for the Thaksinists to refuse open talks because they will loose face as finally even the most illiterate farmer will know that the only thing they did since in power is cheating and lying.

Challenge to the Red Shirt supporters: tell me 3 good things this government did during the last 3 years!

How about the increase of the minimum wage from 100baht to 300baht, tax cuts for everyone that came into effect in December 2013 and a public medical plan that covers all citizens.

Too much off-topic to elaborate (and no real need anyway as it's been done to death already), but you managed to get all three wrong.

  4. Hang around until the NACC's Rice investigation is complete... then you will have your answer.

Didn't she cheat on her declaration of Assets as required when she entered the job as PM....didn't mention the Baht 3M watch. ????

It was in the same issue posted on earlier when she perjured herself by claiming she owned 20 Million shares of Shin stock that was later determined to be truthfully owned by her brother. A separate incident in the case occurred as you say with her asset declaration statement and a which watch is the watch which I own situation.

assets Yingluck declared upon taking office were in conflict with what she had told a court earlier.

When testifying in her brother's Bt46-billion asset seizure case, Yingluck said she had had her niece purchase a Bt2.5 million baht watch for her.

However, in her asset declaration, she only reported nine watches worth a total of Bt1.8 million, he said.

  5. What head of state would ever have gone into a televised "debate" with someone so far removed from political relevance?

Again, a non-story followed by a lot of nonsensical chattering.

"What head of state would ever have gone into a televised "debate" "

I guess you are naively unaware that the "head of state" doesn't do televised debates and is not discussed on this forum.

Perhaps in your innocence you mean't the "caretaker" lame duck P.M. Yingluck.?

  6. Ms Yingluck said she agreed to a negotiation under the constitutional framework on the condition that Mr Suthep must end the rallies to pave the way for elections, and the issues for the talks must be clearly defined.

"If the dialogue is held beyond the constitutional framework, knowledgeable people from different fields must participate and make joint decisions. I myself cannot decide on behalf of people in the entire nation," she said.

    Shes a smart woman

Smart enough to know her own overwhelming inadequacies such as being able to discuss her opinions openly in front of a national audience on her own. She knows she would fail miserably, but as you say, she's smart enough to recognize that.

BANGKOK: -- The caretaker government says it is preparing to launch a bond issuance to mobilise funds to pay farmers under the rice-pledging scheme.

    The reality:

    February 27, 2014

The Finance Ministry's auction for promissory notes worth Bt20 billion held Thursday failed again as none of bidders showed up, resulted into the second failure of the caretaker government in an attempt to seek funds to pay farmers, who have not been yet paid, under the flagship rice-pledging scheme.

'Guess Thai at Heart lost interest... LOL (see earlier this thread - one or two others as well who said they'd buy them...) C'mon T@H (et al) - how 'bout some money where your mouth is! No? I didn't think so...

Does this mean the farmers will be back in BKK on their tractors?

Today is the last day of the "next week" they were promised by Yingluck last week.

    Fire the tractors up.

  8. Yaowapa Wongsawat was baned for five-years for electoral fraud.

Now she is again in business.

She replace Pheu Thai's Chinnicha Wongsawat, whose voting right was revoked for filing a false financial statement.

So an electoral fraudster replaces a financial statement liar.

Husband Somchai Wongsawat runs on PT List Nr. 2.

He was baned for electoral fraud too.

Now he collects taxes for the country.

Electoral fraud and tax fraud seems to be a family attribute

Indeed fine upstanding role models for the citizens and children of the country who should be encouraged to aspire to their abysmal level of ethics and service to the Thai people.

Her child followed her exemplary role modeling when she too was banned from politics.

Although, as children sometimes do, they don't follow their parent's role modelling exactly as she was banned for lying on her legal assets declaration statement.

  12. This banned for 5 years deal is BS. People should only have one chance in politics!

As I understand, they have a 5 year banning, then a 10 year banning on the 2nd offense, and it's not until the 3rd time, do they receive a permanent banning.
So, after the second time they pass the baton to a relative and live off their unusual amount of wealth gained from 'two timing' the country. There should be a severe penalty 1st time, with a message such as "You have abused the trust of the people who voted for you, disgraced your family name and failed to serve anyone but yourself. Go to jail for 10 years without parole."

Fear of public humiliation, and therefore loss of face could be an effective deterrent, plus of course mandatory jail time. People need to know how serious a crime corruption is, the penalty needs to be up there with the most serious crimes, rather than a slap on the wrist and, let's face it, a 5 year holiday.

I agree the penalties need to be more severe.

Unsurprisingly, PTP feels the present rules are already too severe and it was one of the areas they were focusing their constitutional amending efforts on.

  13. Appalling choice. He epitomizes all that is wrong with Thailand's social structure, and a significant contributor to why it's so f'd up today.

    Complete forward into the past.

Just look at the names of suggested leaders in that poll and you can see it oozing bias in favor of the vested interests (ie: elitist; anti anything vaguely populist, Thaksin).

    .

Does that extend to the Thaksin Cabinet Ministers on the list?
