  1. It is what those that didn't know better voted for. That aside, you will still need the Schengen visa, but it will be as a general visitor rather than family member. On the basis the visa is now 80 Euro I would have thought a day trip was not worth it, may be better to think of a longer trip. Last year we went to Dublin, you can do that on the UK visa. This year we are going to Turkey, no visa required for Thai nationals.
  2. As someone else has suggested you really need to reconsider the width, 2 metres each side is not enough to work with. On the basis main access will be from the public road then the car port and living area ought to be at that end. I would angle the corner of main road and small soi and put main gate there. As for the pillars you can have them where you want to a certain extent, depends on whether you use existing plans or have your own drawn up. I made sketches like you, a friend tidied them up on autocad, found an architect to turn them into plans, then went looking for a builder, not that easy when you deviate from normal Thai conventions. Good luck.
  3. It depends on the foundations. Although we are in the country the architect we had got to do the plans used heavy traffic foundations. The floor plan is 12m x 8m and the pillars are also 5m from one side on the width, variable 2.5m - 4m pitch on the length. Lounge is a clean rectangle of 7.7m x 5m.
  4. Forgot the link https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/overseas-passport-creditdebit-card-payment-authorisation
  5. Further to previous post details can be found here. I have been thinking about mine which is due in a year. They were saying 11 weeks before the industrial action was announced so I will probably make a trip to the UK.
  6. I am going to go back to the UK to renew mine, hopefully I will get scammed on the government fast track website.
  7. Did I say it was correct? Long time since I worked so character restrictions are a distant memory.
  8. You quoted the new rates? I should have realised that you can only look at the "new rate", the "old rate" only applies to those in receipt of their pension pre 2016. Apologies. It is a bit of a coincidence that the 2022 rate for the "new rate" was about the same as the 2023 rate for the "old rate".
  9. The OP said "such as", not that it existed. I seem to think that a "-" cannot be used, needs to be underscore. "fake websites such as UK-renewpassport.net"
  10. Exactly, the term is protected. https://www.scotch-whisky.org.uk/insights/protecting-scotch-whisky/protecting-scotch-whisky-outside-the-uk/ The only local drink that is anywhere near tasting like whisky is Crown 99. http://www.interbevgroup.com/brands-spirits-crown99.php
  11. What do you mean by the "old" rate. There are 2 state pension rates, the old rate and the new rate. The old was about £141 and the new about £156. Both rose by about 10% a few days ago making them £156.20 and £203.85 respectively.
  12. You should write to them, could take a few weeks for a response but it will be by email and plain sailing from then on and a lot less hassle.
  13. You could try looking in that supermarket next to Mikes, think it is called "Modern" but not sure if still open. They used to have a fair selection of beers. It may not be from the UK. I was with friends in a craft beer bar in Prachinburi last weekend and one had a can of guiness, but it was from Malaysia.
  14. Only the mentally challenged would think that visa status based on marriage is no different to visa status based on retirement. It is not all about forms, those that overstay change their visa status by default to "illegal", What people think they know is based on translation and by definition cannot be literal.
  15. Quite, and mine are so old the plastic has gone brittle and a bit worried the clips will break off.
  16. Brits with expiring passports are not just in Thailand.
  17. A deal for what exactly, expand the existing service centre? The Chinese factory has been on the go since 2008 and the agreement was extended in 2018 until 2025. Only last week a new agreement was agreed to double capacity. China is the biggest user of Airbus aircraft in the region so the obvious location for production. https://www.airbus.com/en/our-worldwide-presence/airbus-in-asia-pacific/airbus-in-thailand
  18. You could try giving the filters a clean, usually quite easy if you can work out how to get the cover off.
  19. Probably from the Daikin calculator on the website. They suggest 18K btu for 18 - 22 sq metres. Just been looking, my 14 year old LG has seen better days, noisy and the louvres not working properly, still coping with the weather though.
  20. That is correct, anything else is an office variation.
  21. Visas are a facility to enter a country and once you have entered no longer useable inside the country. Once people have entered a country they have visa status which can be exempt(waiver), tourist or whatever designated by the visa held. Within Thailand there are unusual procedures that allow certain levels of visa status to be amended. The constant whinging over loosing time when changing from one type of extension to another is down to a change in visa status. Of course you and everyone else are perfectly free to believe what you choose, the sooner Thailand adopts international conventions the better.
  22. Fairly common regulations that people would rather ignore. "Since Brexit, you're no longer allowed to take certain foods to Europe like meats, fruits, vegetables, fishes, those kinds of stuff," the border guard explains to the lorry driver in the Dutch report. https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2021/01/12/brexit-border-guards-seize-ham-sandwiches-from-lorry-drivers-according-to-dutch-report
  23. If you change your visa status the time granted will start from day of application and if you renew your existing visa status the time granted should be consecutive. Changing an extension from retirement to marriage or vice versa would normally be seen as a change in visa status, as would conversion of exempt or tourist to Non O.
  24. Nothing can be presumed to be obvious but apologies for the misinterpretation. I also had astimatism but no idea what level. When I was being measured for the lenses the guy did say they also had monofocals for correction of astigmatism but felt they wouldn't be necessary. Said the surgery alone can correct astigmatism and he was right. I only need glasses in the supermarket now, struggle with what is on the packaging.
