  1. No idea, just seen them advertised.
  2. Many being sold on Lazada, looks like the name has been adopted for modern portable units. As far as the OP is concerned unlikely portable units could deal with fairly high temperatures. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/6000-yt-18-10wac-window-air-conditioner6000btu-i719184716.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.13.795d1909HzAJry
  3. Falang mentality to the fore. There are 3 dwellings on our land and the postbox is at my gate so I see 3 bills when they arrive. My sister in law and brother in law bills at the moment are below 1000 baht a month, less than half of mine. They both have aircon but very seldom use it, they do not see the heat as a problem in the same way as foreigners. The government has very little control over the price of food but can provide some benefit through electricity costs.
  4. I have always done the same, bought and paid for the tickets and insurance prior to the application and included the information in the sponsor letter. What I meant when I referred to information on the application, I suspect the ECOs are more likely to pay attention to what is included in supporting documents than a single question on the form. Quite often I have done multiple visas, one year it was 3, and always do the UK first as I think having the the UK visa helps facilitate the others. Sometimes the UK application has been made as soon as the 3 month window opens. It was the year we went to UK, Canada and Germany that I had problems with the German Embassy. They had introduced an online application which didn't differentiate between normal applicants and family members, full documentation had to be supplied irrespective. I took the matter to SOLVIT and the EU made the Germans change their ways, not that it helped us in any way but maybe others.
  5. I have never told them when I want the visa to start always been their decision. Varied between 7 and 1 day before departure.
  6. You should check Agoda, plenty of budget accommodation that can be booked online.
  7. When I came back last August I asked the IO about the TM6 and the way she replied gave the impression it was history at airports. Were still in use at Nong Khai a couple of weeks ago.
  8. I have done 11 visitor visas for my wife and have never requested anything in respect of validity, they have always been issued valid from just before departure. The current visa is valid from 29/04/23 until 29/10/23, flight leaves 01.15 on 30/4/23. It may well be something to do with the information provided in the application. Years ago there used to be posts fairly regularly from people complaining about validity being from the application but I haven't seen one in a long time.
  9. Rather than add a second router, I think a better option for you would be to get a second hand laptop just to use with your TV and run the IPTV from the laptop with your vpn installed. Most vpn will allow more than one device. This is what I do in hotels, just need to change source on the tv and with a wireless mouse all very easy. You could also install kodi on the laptop and if you can get the hang of that you may not need the IPTV.
  10. I am in a similar boat. My LG is also 11 years old but it does cycle, and in the current climate cycling a bit quicker than normal. The real problem is that being old style the louvre is top hinged and now doesn't operate as smoothly as it did. I have to mess about to get it fully open and even when new never discharged horizontally. I have been thinking about replacing it with a Daiken or Mitsu invertor so would be interested to see how yours works out.
  11. A few years back I had issues with the German Embassy in Bangkok and took the matter to SOLVIT. I still have a copy of the handbook on my computer but you should Google for a later version in case of updates. This is from Section 2.8 of the handbook, there are also some examples of how the rule should be applied. "However, an application may be accepted from a person legally present – but not residing - in the jurisdiction of the consulate where the application is submitted, if he can justify why the application could not be lodged at a consulate in his place of residence. It is for the consulate to appreciate whether the justification presented by the applicant is acceptable" I know personally 3 people in the UK that have done this while their wife/girlfriends were in the UK. They did it on the basis they wanted to take advantage of last minute discounted offers which weren't available prior to leaving Thailand. One was rejected by the French embassy and the other 2 were successful, one to Amsterdam and one to Spain. I should say they were before the UK left the EU and attitudes may have hardened. The Handbook is quite clear, it can be done, but up to the embassy to accept the reason. Being on a standard visitor visa is not an issue. ""Legally present" means that the applicant is entitled to stay temporarily in the jurisdiction on the basis of the legislation of the third country where he is present either for a short stay or when he is allowed to stay for a longer period of time while maintaining his permanent residence in another third country."
  12. No, last month bill, 19th, was 1845.22, this month 2369.22. In April 2021 the bill was 2333.97 about the same as this month and in June 2021 it was 2411.62. Bearing in mind the rise in unit cost, 2021 may have been warmer than now.
  13. I would like to go back and have a look, haven't been since 1970. I was called out to a compass problem on a motor launch in the creek. Biggest danger was falling in, crap and dead dogs floating everywhere.
  14. Quite. The UK used to insist on seeing all previous passports, item 11 on the form, so it is something I have always done. If they no longer insist on seeing them it would mean they have some other way of doing it.
  15. Almost certainly and personally I think little chance of success in current circumstances. I would suggest getting married, wait a couple of years and the application would have a better chance of success.
  16. Quite. I saw this on BBC news a few days ago, thought the forum would be red hot the following morning. Storm in a teacup comes to mind.
  17. Your comfort zone wouldn't be the norm. Of course a low humidity makes it feel cooler, the sweat can evaporate into the atmosphere and in doing so draws heat from the body. Years ago they put wet sackcloth over firkins of ale to keep the temperature down. That wouldn't work in a high humidity as by definition the atmosphere is already laden with water and cannot accept any more, the wet sackcloth would just get warm. If the temperature rises above 38 degrees in 100% humidity it becomes life threatening as there is no longer any mechanism to keep the blood temperature under control. BTW. I was stationed at Sharjah for a year in 1970 when aircon was the exception rather than the rule. Take it from me the aircraft parked on the hardstandings got quite warm, 5 minutes inside the fuselage and you could wring your shorts out.
  18. Water has always been the source of life. People would soon start whinging if they didn't have any. I remember the days when you couldn't use the toilets in Walking Street because of the water shortage. Bit of a stink if it happened today.
  19. Quite. About 20 years ago when I went to Pattaya regularly I knew an Australian who lived in the Bay Breeze Hotel permanently. He had rented 2 adjoining rooms and had the bed removed from one to use as a lounge.
  20. I have had "Non-RE" written on all entry stamps, air and land, since they changed the shape of the stamp, other than last Aug when I came back on a new visa and that is just marked "Non-O" with "E-Visa" written below the stamp. When the stamp was rectangular it was usually "Non-O", but sometimes followed by an "M".
  21. Averages for Thailand are exactly that. In the 15 years I have lived here I don't think the temperature has ever dropped below 17 degrees, the same cannot be said for those in the north. When I first came here we would be without rain from late November till at least April and one year till June. Since 2016 we have not gone through the dry season without rain at some stage. Being self sufficient with water it is something you take note of, can be a bit galling when Pattaya gets flooded and we haven't had a drop.
  22. My latest bill 2 days ago was almost the same as it was for the same period in 2021 and less than the following period. On the basis of bills the temperature is going to keep on rising.
  23. In 2019 as a result of the embassy letter coming to an end I went to HCMC for a ME visa and once we had done that had a trip across to Vung Tau. Going across the bay was quite incredible, there were flying fish alongside the boat, just a couple of feet from the window. In Feb 2020 I had to do my first bounce on that visa just as the pandemic started. Went from Chonburi on the train to Padang Besar, arrived in the morning and left in the afternoon, not great but circumstances dictated.
  24. I wasn't particularly impressed with Penang and prefer HCMC. Nationality would however come into it as only some countries get the 15 day visa exempt to Vietnam.
  25. When I did mine last year I used bank statements from my Thai bank and it wasn't a problem.
