  1. Agreed, In 20 odd years I have only ever seen an American breakfast offered as a choice. The best buffet I have come across was the Holiday Inn in Pattaya. They had back bacon, sausages that did taste a bit English and eggs cooked to order. Think they had the fried tomatoes and beans but you will struggle to find black pudding and the English kind of mushrooms served up in a hotel for breakfast.
  2. It is not to do with the length of stay, but the number of rooms. If more than 4 rooms the owner must have a hotel license for short term stays. As far as condos are concerned, it was ruled that the total number in the block would be used rather than individual ownership. In other words someone with a single condo would need the license. As far as legality is concerned it has nothing to do with Airbnb, the legal position is nation wide and applies to everyone letting out property.
  3. Not correct. There is nothing "usual" about apartments, the term is interpreted differently from country to country. Airbnb list Houses, Apartments, Guesthouses and Hotels. I have rented many apartments, including here in Thailand and have never seen one listed without a kitchen.
  4. You need to be a bit more careful with the wording, you meant "income" route as it is not necessarily a pension. As you say a bank letter is also required for the income route, or has been at my office for many years. I also use Chonburi Immigration, at Sri Ratcha. You are certainly right on one point, many on here that have never done something make out they an expert based on hearsay. However it doesn't do any good to get wound up, at the end of the day they are the ones with the stamp in their hand.
  5. The popup on the E-visa website appears to have dropped off the bottom, it was there when I did mine a few weeks ago. Bangkok, 17 June, 2022 – Thailand’s Centre of COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today approved the removal of the Thailand Pass registration scheme and an US$10,000 health insurance requirement for foreign visitors, effective 1 July, 2022. Both requirements were initially removed for Thai nationals from 1 June, 2022. https://www.tatnews.org/2022/06/thailand-pass-registration-scheme-to-be-lifted-from-1-july-2022/
  6. Garbage, all electric shock is basically the same, electric current passing through the body. How any electric shock feels will depend on the level of current which is to a certain extent dependent on the supply source, contact resistance and what part of the body it passes through. It was common practice for electricians to test the supply by putting 2 fingers across live and neutral. The real danger comes when the current passes through the heart. Static is effectively a discharge so only instantaneous, as is a shock from a capacitor. When I was at school 3 lads from the year below me were watching cricket when the rain came. They took shelter under a tree and the tree was struck by lightning, 2 died and the survivor was found naked without a hair on his body. He told me later it felt like his feet were on fire and then hit over the head with a hammer. The conclusion was his clothes had been wet enough to offer a lower resistance path to the current.
  7. You should read the OP again. "Can anyone who has recently acquired a non o visa based on marriage let me know what the health insurance requirements are. " Have you recently acquired a non o visa based on marriage?
  8. The requirement for health insurance on visa applications was lifted on 1st July 2022. If you go to the E-visa website there is a popup message to that effect.
  9. I never said my ID started with the number 7. I said the serial number was number 7, the seventh one issued at that amphur. It was my understanding that only expats with PR qualified under the first phase.
  10. It is a country of contrasts. I live in Chonburi city and in Sept 2020 we we went up to Khao Kho. Not only was the scenery like Scotland, so was the weather. I was perished, I had been warned and taken my coat but didn't expect it to be that cold.
  11. Do you have PR? I got my yellow book in March 2010 and there were no pink cards available for the average expat then. They were first introduced in 2008 but it wasn't till much later till after the 2014 coup that they became generally available under the second phase. The serial number on mine is No 7 out of Mueang Chonburi, and as it happens I met a guy with No 6.
  12. That is if you could walk past the bar, most of the girls were out on the pavement trying to pull you in. Fun days.
  13. Quite. i was one of the first to get a pink card and re-registered at the hospital with it shortly after. When the pandemic was on the hospital put me on Mor Phrom well before the vaccine rollout began. I was vaccinated about 9am the morning the rollout started, Thai ID certainly made a difference.
  14. The emphasis being on "can be". The goods have to be seen as used, my friends wife paid quite a bit on stuff that appeared "as good as new".
  15. Quite possibly, not open all the time.
  16. Yes, they start selling tickets 1 hour before and immigration follows. I think just 3 times a day, the 2 shuttles and there was one Bangkok train during the day, not sure if that is still running. The shuttles started up again in July. It didn't open for the Bangkok trains in the evening, you had to go down to the road and then back up to the station.
  17. Emirates.
  18. Not strange at all. Heathrow has both PSC and APD amounting to about 4500 baht for economy passengers. Did little to reduce tourist numbers.

    Seahorse Ferry

Not from me. Had hoped to go to Songkla but will never set foot on Samui again.
  20. Not all of them. A total of 4,262 patients were admitted to critical care with confirmed COVID-19 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland between January 2022 and June 2022. Of these, around two-thirds (67%) were discharged, almost one in four (24%) died in critical care and 9% are still in critical care. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19latestinsights/hospitals In the UK over 10% of the population are waiting to be treated in hospital, what is the figure for Thailand?
  21. Quite, you truncated the post and went off at a tangent.
  22. You will need a copy, firstly to check in at the airport or they may assume you are going visa exempt. Guy checking me in at LHR only looked at my passport and then started quizzing me about how long I was staying. I pointed out the piece of paper in my passport and he had to call someone, never heard of an E-visa.
  23. It is certainly not false as I personally know someone who has done it, and I also believe someone else I know is currently in the process. You would need to check the current customs regulations for returning Thai nationals. When I shipped my goods I used Asian Tigers and found the service very good. PS. You need to think carefully about the insurance. My goods were mainly well used and not a great deal of value but the insurance was based on replacement value and the premium more than the shipping cost, I declined to take out any insurance and bore the risk.
  24. What did you find difficult about this statement in my post? "Where the material is made to a standard, degradation may well be down to some other cause."
  25. What are you trying to say? That the Thais use the same amount of plasticizer as other countries.
