  1. Many years ago a friend of mine went from the UK to the US to visit the Mardi Gras. He was interrogated, denied entry and sent back to the UK on the next flight. The reason? He had a conviction in the UK for possession of a small amount of marijuana. Just saying!
  2. "The reason for why not most guns,...." is that the UK has stricter gun controls - even the Police are not allowed to carry guns as a matter of course :- "In Northern Ireland, all police officers carry firearms whereas in the rest of the United Kingdom, firearms are carried only by specially-trained firearms officers."
  3. Nope - they come from a different world - the planet Zarcon, I believe!
  4. “Are the Thai police that bad?” he asked,......." I leave it to the AseanNow jury to decide!
  5. If he had previously been in prison in his "home country" for selling drugs and firearms, why was he let into Thailand in the first place?
  6. Old Timers Disease already!
  7. At one time I might have been physically able to! :-)
  8. Dumb! All the "patron" has to say is "I'm not driving" Doh!
  9. Very interesting post for ex pats! You are quite right in some respects, but one of the first things I noticed in Thailand is that many restaurants and bars don't mind you taking in your own food - in fact, only a matter of days ago a couple came into my local bar/restaurant with some street food, and the manageress strode over and said "Would you like some plates for that? (And no, she wasn't being sarcastic!) Since then, the same couple have returned a few times - not always with food, but they obviously appreciate the "ambience" of the place, and the manageress has attracted a couple of new "regular" customers! One thing's for sure - it wouldn't happen in the UK!!!
  10. Sorry, but I have to answer "....Since it's obvious, except perhaps to you, that there are no such statistics to be found,...." Why "perhaps to you" when I have already said that I was not looking for any statistics? Anyway, going by some of the replies on here it would seem that Pattaya is a bit like Marmite - you love it or hate it - you (and many others to be fair) obviously love it, and while I don't hate it, I (and a few others) don't look upon it as the be all and end all of holiday destinations! Enjoy your Nirvana!
  11. You are quite correct in assuming that I haven't stayed there! I merely said that "Hard Rock" is not a name that implies a "family friendly" hotel to me!!!
  12. Do you think I'm a mind reader? The first mention of statistics was you asking me how I was getting on with finding them! And then you say you "let me off the hook"? I am so grateful for that, really! As I said in my last post I am fed up of all this bickering, and I do so hope that your previous post covers all you want to say, because I have also heard enough of what you want to say - can this be the end of it?
  13. I am "out there and living" already thank you - I am quite happy with enjoying a few drinks 2 or 3 times a week, and go out for a meal with my Thai wife quite regularly - in fact, she is the one who wants to stay in more - but I don't see that that is any concern of yours. And where do you get the impression that I am looking for "those pesky statistics"? I am merely making my assumptions on the number of times that Pattaya crime figures in the headlines on AseaNow - and even you state that "even other cities creep in now and then" (Would that be about 10%?) Anyway, enough of this bickering, I'm going to have a glass of wine - have a nice evening/morning with your person of choice!
  14. "How are you doing with finding any statistics supporting your claim that Pattaya is responsible for 90% of the crime in Thailand?" Slander! I never claimed that! I quote the excerpt from my post to which I presume you are referring :- ".....it appears that 90% of all crimes against visitors to Thailand appear to be committed in this world renowned "Hub of Entertainment"? What part of "appear to be" do you appear to be having trouble with? And I never said I was going to find any statistics supporting my "claim", so an apology would appear to be in order - hmm?
  15. Or even QUELLE surprise if you want to be correct(Or pedantic!)
  16. You still haven't sold me - I'm kicking on 80! (P.S. Love your choice of words:- ".... we've been to both several times or more."
  17. I don't think Bangkok is particularly suited for family holidays either!
  18. I doubt if I will be making a return visit, and as I'm not a kid, I doubt if the places you mention would appeal to me much anyway!
  19. Once again, don't misquote me! What part of "IMPLIES" do you not understand?
  20. Maybe parts of Pattaya do cater for families, but that was the point of the heading of my post. Pattaya has a certain reputation amongst most tourists, and it is NOT as a "Family Friendly" destination - there are plenty of better choices for family holidays.
  21. The reply to my post came across as being rather pompous:- " Pattaya is a city not a resort." so I merely replied in kind.
  22. No stats needed - just look at AseaNow every day!
  23. "Pattaya is not a 'resort" 'Once again - another pedantic one! From Google:- "Pattaya is a popular Beach resort on the Gulf of Thailand, just 150 km southeast of Bangkok –a mere two-hour drive. Pattaya's pulsating NIGHTLIFE is well known, but Local authorities have, in recent years, improved the quality of the beaches and reinvented the resort as a more family-friendly destination." P.S. "..... just the small areas you visited" You don't know which areas I visited!
  24. Don't misquote me! I said that the name IMPLIED something - not that's what it is/was (TISWAS?)
