Surely you should realise that after 21 years of your lifetime paying 25% of your income in child maintenance, paying your ex wife 50% of the value of your house in a divorce agreement and also having to find the money to pay for the outstanding mortgage, house and contents insurance, gas bills, electric bills, water rates, Council Tax, TV licence, telephone bills, keeping the house in a reasonable condition by decorating, purchasing carpets and furniture etc, the cost of buying, taxing and insuring a car to travel to work - and of course buying enough food so that you are physically capable of holding down a job in order to be able to be paying for all of the above, if your occupation is that of a "office clerk", THERE IS NOT A LOT LEFT to put aside as savings to dip into for your 800,000 baht!!!!

Barclays Bank to close UK accounts for British expats
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've been with RBS for over 60 years, and they refused me a small loan to do some repairs to my UK house because I am not a UK resident! Must be just coincidence that out of a list of about 15 UK banks in a fairly recent survey they came BOTTOM as regards on line and in branch Customer Services? :- Ranking Starling Bank 81% Monzo 81% First direct 78% Metro bank 72% Nationwide 68% Halifax 64% Barclays 64% Lloyds bank 61% Bank of Scotland 60% Santander 56% Natwest 56% HSBC UK 54% The co-operative bank 53% TSB 50% Virgin Money 49% Royal bank of Scotland 49% -

Thai health minister backs cannabis ban, citing surge in teen usage
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Anutin himself was pretty clear when he removed it from the narcotic list that recreational use remained illegal." I am afraid that anything Anutin says should be taken with a pinch of salt - it's usually subject to a U turn a few days later, so the shop owners were probably expecting him to run true to form! ???? However, I do agree with your point about if something isn't selling they put the price up - I call it Thai "Auntie Logic"! -
Thai health minister backs cannabis ban, citing surge in teen usage
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
".....they can choose to close......" Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the legalisation of cannabis, these people are not choosing to close - they are being forced to close. It's like having a TV shop and being told you can't sell TV's any more, so you "choose" to close? -
Thai health minister backs cannabis ban, citing surge in teen usage
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"The police told us that these attacks were caused by the perpetrators being high on home produced cannabis" That would be the same police who were told at training that everybody who smokes cannabis ends up being a drug addict? That's what a friend of mine was told when she graduated from the "Specials" (Part time Volunteers) to the full time Police Cadet School! And that was from a fully qualified Instructor lecturing on the "dangers of drugs"!!! -

We should all know by now where the outgoing Health Minister's interests lay! -

"Phumtham welcomes convicted former PM Thaksin as PM’s chief advisor" Well, blow me down with a feather - who could have thought of such a cunning plan? -
Blockbuster movie scares Chinese tourists away from Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What is a "brutal scamming compound"? And if Chinese tourists are being put off in their thousands because of a film, then why not bring out a film denouncing the film as pure fiction, and replace it with one promoting "Even More Amazing Thailand"? Oh, sorry, somebody has just told me that TAT have already tried that! -
Cannabis leaves AND plants? I see no plants!

No, I don't think you are a tourist - I think you are probably an "alien" - that's what foreigners are called in the requirements for Visa applications! :- "1.4. Order of the Immigration Bureau No. 110/2546 dated June 11, B.E. 2546 re: Rules and conditions in considering the granting of a permit to an alien for extension of temporary stay in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Thai PM sees a role for Thaksin when he gets out of jail
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
???? I don't beleeeve it! Who would have thought that? -
" Thailand, renowned for its scenic beauty. His Thai journey encompassed visits to Pattaya, Bangkok, and Narathiwat,...." You have to laugh don't you? Scenic beauty? Pattaya? Bangkok?, and Narathiwat which is very close to the areas that UK citizens are advised to stay away from because of possible violence (Yala/Pattani). And he's just been "busted" for overstay, and wants an extension so he can spend his money? I don't beleeeeve it!

Weighing passengers to become standard for Bangkok Airways
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
" .......................and the purpose is to aid in the calculation of the take-off weight, to ensure flight safety." Knowing Bangkok Air, and their extortionate prices on the Bangkok - Samui route, the purpose in future will be to charge overweight passengers extra! -

Suvarnabhumi Immigration Ensures 20-Min Wait or Less for Tourists
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
".............to prepare for the expected surge in visitors ........." They've been talking to TAT and filching their buzzwords!!! -
"..............he must remain incarcerated for at least one-third of his jail term or at least six months (whichever is the longer), as required by the rules. So by my reckoning, it's 5 months, but I have my doubts as to whether he will serve that long!!!

So I presume that his illness(es) will keep him in hospital for another 5 months? ???? What's the odds on parole being granted before then on the grounds of "?????????????????"

Thai PM says he opposes the recreational use of cannabis
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And do you burden the already overwhelmed police force with enforcing what is now, again, a crime? No comment necessary! -
"After 20 minutes in the pool, they all felt numb all over their bodies and found it difficult to move their legs and arms." That doesn't sound like an electric shock to me - an electric shock would have bounced them out of the jacuzzi! No, I think they just stayed in too long and the water got cold - happened to me a few times in the UK after falling asleep in the bath!!! ????
