Traffic safety: Ten main traffic laws enforced over long public holiday
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Should these laws not be enforced all year round anyway? Oh, sorry, would that not mean people doing their jobs all year round - the ones they get paid to do? -
TAT Adopts Cautious Approach to Visa Fee Waiver Scheme
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have been saying this for years - TAT are notorious for painting a rosy picture with mind blowing statistics, and a barrel load of excuses why their predictions didn't happen. ("More tricks than a circus dawg"!) One of the best ones I saw was them trying to explain where all the supposed tourists were to business people in the tourist areas by saying "They're all in the North of the country exploring the "real" Thailand!!! ???? -

A couple of years ago, a Pit Bull in Thailand killed its owner, and they took it to the temple to apologise to the corpse!!! I kid you not:- "An unexpected guest was seen yesterday at the Bang Lamung, Pattaya funeral of the victim of a pit bull attack. Giant, the guilty dog, was brought to apologise by his new owner." (T*****r April 2 2021)"Yesterday Suksa Ketnak, Giant’s new owner, brought the pit bull to Wisit’s funeral to pay respects and apologise. Giant was restrained with a protective muzzle to keep everyone safe. Following with Buddhist tradition, Suksa and Giant came to pray and ‘apologise’ to Wisit’s spirit for the pit bull’s attack and ask for forgiveness. TIT!!!

"Local residents intervened, restraining the aggressive dog by tying its mouth and feet, resulting in its unfortunate fortunate death, presumably due to suffocation." Said it before - I'll say it again - these unpredictable beasts should be banned - never mind they make wonderful family pets, they are time bombs, pure and simple.

A bit off topic, but in line with your point, I immediately thought of the UK's Lord and Lady Kinnock - him being originally the Labour MP representing and looking after the interests of the working people. Funny how a few quid can alter somebody's perspective on things!
-
From a jail cell? Could be done I suppose - he's got enough money to buy a few politicians to do things for him!
-
If they can, then it makes a mockery of the word "Democracy", but there again - TIT!

Do we really need 3 long introductory articles by "W*****T" basically all about the same topic?

What a farce! These so called leaders of "Even more wonderful Thailand" couldn't even pick their own noses, or a "p**s up" in a brewery!!!

Rejection of Pita’s renomination as PM ‘unconstitutional’ : Ombudsman
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"There is a vendetta against Pita, just as there was against Thanathorn,........." Correct, and it would appear that if they thought they could have got away with it, they would have charged Pita and the MFP for threatening to change the Constitution regarding the Lese Majeste law. It would also seem irrelevant in their eyes that the placement of 250 unelected Senators was unconstitutional, and therefore Prayut illegally changed the Constitution to allow that to happen! And that he took power illegally from a legally elected Government! The current Government run by the military junta has been a totally hypocritical set up from the start, and as pointed out previously, their mantra seems to have been "do as I say, not as I do", and for the to call their Government "democratic" is the very epitome of hypocricy! -
Outgoing Thai PM hopes for a peaceful transition of power
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"Outgoing Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wishes the country to remain peaceful while those concerned are forming the new government." Yeah? Like the country was when he was forming his new Government? Your one word post says it all! -
Rejection of Pita’s renomination as PM ‘unconstitutional’ : Ombudsman
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"........pita was ordered to step down due to an order from the constitutional court." "rejecting the Move Forward party leader’s renomination as a prime ministerial candidate, and demanding that the case be forwarded to the Constitutional Court for consideration." So, the way that I read it is that the Constitutional Court ordered Pita to step down, but the Ombudsman is now saying that that order was "unconstitutional"/illegal", and that they should reverse their decision and allow Pita's renomination to go ahead. However, that now seems "academic" as Pita and the MFP have now effectively "thrown the towel in", and another coalition party has put forward a candidate for PM, so all this seems to be now is a face saving exercise, which as we know is of paramount importance here in Thailand! -

Pheu Thai will try to get its candidate selected as PM next Thursday
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes, wrong topic - that's my point!!! But I do like your analogy! -
They do seem to expect better treatment than anyone else - the "Do you know who/what I am?" attitude! However, it does seem to have mellowed a bit since their leadership has dragged them into a war not of their choosing, and they are here to a certain extent "under sufferance" trying to escape it. They certainly seem to be a bit quieter than they used to be - or maybe my sense of hearing is getting worse!

What has this post got to do with teen violence in Pattaya - which is what I clicked on! -
My same impression exactly - I held a door open for a Russian family a couple of years ago as they were "laden down" and got a scowl in return for my smile! I said "You're welcome" to their backs, and got another scowl back! They seem to think that somehow they are entitled to subservient behaviour! Since then, no more Mr Nice Guy with Russkies!

Thailand sees tourism growth skyrocketing to three trillion baht in 2023
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And yet, during the early days of Covid, I remember Anutin saying that tourism accounted for very little of GDP! (Along with other "pearls of wisdom"!) He's strangely quiet these days - I wonder why? Seems his ambition to be PM has been "shelved" - or is he just gathering his PR team for a final push? -
Thailand sees tourism growth skyrocketing to three trillion baht in 2023
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As soon as I saw "3 trillion baht", I thought TAT have got to be in here somewhere and I was not disappointed:- "In response to these favourable conditions, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced an innovative campaign titled “Amazing Thailand Health and Wellness: New Chapters New Experience” They'll be needing a whole paragraph to themselves for the title of their next "campaign"!
