  1. From Google:- "Pattaya is a popular Beach resort on the Gulf of Thailand, just 150 km southeast of Bangkok –a mere two-hour drive. Pattaya's pulsating NIGHTLIFE is well known, but Local authorities have, in recent years, improved the quality of the beaches and reinvented the resort as a more family-friendly destination." I am not denying that Pattaya is a city, or that Google is ALWAYS correct, but I would suggest that the above is a fair description?
  2. "Hard Rock" is not a name that implies a "family friendly" hotel to me!!! More like a "Hairy Bikers" meets "Hells Angels" meets "70's music aficionados" type of establishment!!!
  3. Plenty of other more appropriate places for families to visit - full stop!
  4. It means (to my mind) that it is a "place" where the locals are welcoming to families, that there are ample facilities for children to play and enjoy themselves safely, and that all families - adults and children alike will be safe from harassment and uncalled for attention - and that should also apply to when the sun goes down!!!
  5. Wrong - see my later post!
  6. Bit pedantic - I'm sure you are intelligent enough to get my point though?
  7. Point taken about the timing of the crimes - probably because a lot of people's senses are dulled by copious amounts of alcohol! And I have a pal who lives in Jomtien why loves it, but as you say - that is not Pattaya, where most of the crimes seem to take place! I've been there once and stayed for 3 days, which I enjoyed, but I was in the company of some "old hands" and managed to get through unscathed due I am sure to my friends' advice re keeping your money and jewelry (watches etc) out of sight. However, I won't be rushing to go back, and it is not what I would personally call a "Family Friendly" resort!
  8. Why do the authorities persist in promoting Pattaya as a "Family Friendly" resort when it appears that 90% of all crimes against visitors to Thailand appear to be committed in this world renowned "Hub of Entertainment"?
  9. See the reply to the post 2 above this one (Why did AseanNow stop giving the posts numbers and identities?)
  10. "The retail price is expected to be slightly higher than its competitors." So it's doomed?
  11. "The retail price is expected to be slightly higher than its competitors." So it's doomed?
  12. "Consider that they have left Pattaya out of this" Consider reading the 2nd post by the OP - just a tiny bit below the first one!:- "Meanwhile, it’s already been widely announced that closing times will be officially extended to 4am in some zones in Bangkok, Phuket, Chon Buri (code for Pattaya) and Chiang Mai." P.S. I agree with everything else in your post!
  13. I would have thought that Koh Samui should have also qualified as it is predominantly a tourist island? Personally I think that 2 am would be late enough for most, but there again, I'm not a tourist any more!!!
  14. How about Koh Samui - a predominantly tourist area?
  15. Maybe they're having some sort of "mine's better/bigger than yours" competition?
  16. "..........in reality, many pubs and bars have been operating beyond the 2am closing time illegally" Then get the RTP to do the job they're paid to do and CLOSE THEM DOWN - or is there some reason why the RTP allow them to continue to operate illegally? Hmmm?
  17. Oh dear - I sense many more "Committee meetings"!!!
  18. "A wave of sexual harassment allegations against members of the Move Forward Party (MFP) has sparked a demand for a definitive code of ethics to govern the sexual conduct of politicians. The demand emerged during a seminar organised by the Women and Men Progressive Movement Foundation on Wednesday, following the expulsion of an MFP member on the grounds of sexual harassment allegations." "A wave of allegations" following the expulsion of "an MFP member"? The words "bandwagon" and "witch-hunt" spring to my mind here!
  19. As I have just said in another post "Copy and paste" for future use!
  20. "Chonburi Governor Launches Operation in Pattaya to Crack Down on Crime Ahead of High Season" To be copied and pasted for use next year (as I have just done!)
  21. A few years ago, my mate and I were out on motor bikes and a cat ran out in front of him, causing him to end up coming off the bike and "bouncing" down the road. There were quite a few Thais about (we were in the middle of a main street) but not one of them came to help despite me waving for assistance. Eventually, a "farang" stopped in a truck and took him/us to hospital. Fortunately it was just cuts and grazes but it could have been much worse - somebody could have stolen our bikes while we were away!
  22. I can't buy alcohol between 2pm and 5pm or on Buddha days, but I can buy it and get bladdered in a nightclub up until 4 am? Even more amazing Thailand!
  23. With that garb, she looks like she should be pointing to the exits!
  24. I never believe anything that TAT say - unless it's "hope for" or 'wish for"!
