  1. I think we are talking about different scenarios here - the "man of the day" has not been disqualified (Yet!)
  2. And you know this for a fact?
  3. As already quoted, apparently he sold his shares to his mother ("and can prove it") probably knowing what would happen if he got this far ahead in "The Game"!
  4. Hear, hear! Apparently the shares in question were sold to his mother, and he can prove it, so perhaps he was aware that "they" would try that trick!
  5. If he has sold the shares to his mother and is able to prove it, then surely, legally the shares don't belong to him?
  6. I thought I read somewhere that he denied the shares were in his name, anyway?
  7. Whoever the Senate (And Prayut's party) decide will be the next PM!!! ???? But if he does become next PM, he should "deinstate" the lot of them - they were put there illegally in the first place!
  8. Well said! And no doubt the Senate panel will be trying to find as much proof as they can that he is absolutely the right man for the job! ????????
  9. "...how much wine do you see in Thailand....(?)" And why do you think that is? Anything do do with:- "Generally, the excise tax for wine is calculated as 60% of the CIF value plus tariff, excise tax paid, and municipal tax."
  10. I agree that it is an important issue, but not the fact that it should appear to be the second most important item on the agenda. This LGBT, and WOKE ( WTF? - that's the first thing I do every morning! ???? ) should surely be a less important priority than people trafficking, or corruption - for instance. Or is it just a convenient "easy baby steps" for a new government to introduce some new legislation that will not have much opposition , and consequently a "didn't they do well?" in their first few weeks? Maybe a tad off topic, but it does have a certain relevance - UK expats may remember that one of Tony Blair's first achievements when he got into power was the introduction of the "Old Folks Winter Fuel Payment" - a move that was very well received at the time and cemented his popularity. Move a few years down the line and his involvement in the Iraq war, and instant drop in popularity! However, one can never predict the future behaviour of a new Government - just hope that it abides by its promises, which is something in which that Prayut's lot were lacking!
  11. You'll be having some smart alec saying that the report came from 2 different sources next! Have you never had an accident? And the state of some of the pavements and roads - even in the big cities/tourist areas are sometimes a recipe for disaster. A few years ago I was following a guy on a motor bike, who made a left turn in front of me, and had to stop to avoid being hit by on oncoming rider on the same side of the road. He put his foot down on what should have been the ground, but was an opening into the drainage system, and someone had forgotten to put the "lid" back on! He ended up going head first into the hole, (don't ask how/why - it just happened) and was very lucky to escape serious injury as his shoulders broke his fall/trapped him. Fortunately, I was right behind him, and with the help of a lady Thai motorcyclist who was on the other side of the road, we hauled him out, virtually unscathed. Very lucky guy!
  12. "The victim looked disheveled, disoriented, and extremely weary, rescuers said" You are completely correct in your suggestions - get the guy IMMEDIATELY to hospital for tests instead of dragging him off to a police station and keeping him hanging around while they try to establish his identity - that should come later, but as usual - TIT! (Current priorities - does he have the correct visa, and is he on overstay?)
  13. First of all we are not GUESTS - we chose to come here, and GUESTS do not have to pay for electric, water, rent etc! And I wouldn't say that our comments mean nothing at all to the current Thai Government, but agree that they mean very little. What they did eventually notice (emphasised by Covid) is that tourism accounted for quite a large chunk of Thailand's GDP i.e. "In 2020, the tourism industry contributed around 65.7 percent to Thailand's GDP, which drastically decreased form the previous year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic." (Figures from Statista Research Department) Consequently, any new Government "may possibly" take this on board, and realise that we foreigners/expats are in actual fact an important part of the Thai economy, and in actual fact we DO have a vote - the option to vote with our feet, and the Covid crisis has shown what a crippling effect the lack of tourism can have on a country such as Thailand, in spite of the notoriously unbelievable statistics spouted out by TAT.
  14. Not being pedantic but surely they are all part of the same article, so somewhere along the line the facts have to be corroborated? And "the second was about multiple parts and no saw."? Sorry but the second says " a saw was found left in her mutilated remains" Anyway, it's all academic really - a horrible crime, and I see that the Polish guy has now been arrested - good work by the RTP. P.S. How do you know his name is Jan? And from the pic, he is not bald? (I see from a previous post he is supposedly called Jan Jerzy Lagoda-Filippow, but nothing in the OP mentions a a name - just wondering where it came from?
  15. Guns and tanks have a funny way of changing people's minds! First you have a democratically elected Government and then suddenly - COUP - and you no longer have your democratically elected Government, but a military junta led Government, that as you have just pointed out, have written their own rulebook - which as far as I know still stands (e.g. military appointed senators?) I'm still waiting for the fat lady to sing on this one!
  16. ".....sharp wounds on the neck and shoulder and left wrist cut off. A saw was found next to her body." Or:- "Her body was reportedly cut into multiple parts and a saw was found left in her mutilated remains, said Wat Phraya Krai police." Communication breakdown?
  17. "Steered through the way he thought best..." Sorry, but best for WHO?
  18. Yes, we haven't heard the "If you don't like it, go home" war cry for a long time. I think that the majority, if not all the expats realise that we have no say in the running of the country (i.e. no vote) but that doesn't prevent us from having an opinion!
  19. ???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took power illegally, and changed the Constitution illegally! 250 Senators ALL appointed by the military (following the "democratic" 2019 Elections.)
  20. "Penalties would also include up to six months in jail or a maximum fine of 3,000 baht." I know what most people would opt for! The Thai government has been quick to reassure people that the proposal, which dates from a four-decade-old executive decree, will not necessarily be implemented. Am I reading that correctly? The Thai Government making a proposal and in the same breath saying that it might not happen? Then why suggest it in the first place? It's a bit like saying that e.g. "We might increase taxes on imported wine, but there again, we may not!"
  21. no further comment from me necessary except that I didn't see anything in the OP to indicate that she was complaining! Please enlighten me/us if you can see anything that indicates that!
  22. I don't think that has anything to do with her qualifications to be a Head Teacher! You'll be saying that anybody who has a tattoo is a hooligan next! ????
  23. Thank you for your eloquent explanation of the situation, and just to raise a point from your last comment:- "..... more consistent national policies." There is nothing consistent about the way that the British Government choose to pay annual increments on pensions to expats! There was a well publicised situation a few years ago where 2 ladies from the UK decided to move to the USA many years ago, and one ended up living on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, and the other on the USA side - literally a few miles away from each other. One gets the annual increments to her Government Pension and the other one doesn't, with the result that a few years down the line there is a difference in their monthly pensions of hundreds of £'s! All down to "reciprocal agreements" between countries apparently, and nothing at all to do with common sense! Similarly, if I lived in the Philippines, I would get the increments, but as I live in Thailand, I don't!
  24. Answer a question with a question, eh? I was only surmising that with your fairly impressive employment record, (..."after a 41 year career as a U.S. educator. Middle school, high school and retired as Professor Emeritus of History and International Programs") you would be getting a fairly substantial "Employees Pension" in addition to the Government pension - that is the way it works (for me) in the UK, a Government Pension, and a Works Pension. Having said that, as an aside, my Government Pension is "frozen" (i.e. no annual increments that would get paid to me if I lived in the UK, or the Philippines) but my Works Pension is increased every year! However, that is probably worth a different topic altogether!
  25. There seems to be a pattern emerging here recently:- Pattaya - Indian - Ladyboy - Gold Necklace - Gone! These people should know better than to flaunt their expensive jewellery in such places - it has happened so many times before. Or maybe, knowing the reputation that Indian businessmen have for "seizing an opportunity", could be grounds for excessive Insurance claims? Reminds me of an old joke, which hopefully the Mods will allow on here:- Einstein and an Indian businessman were sitting beside each other on a long flight. Einstein suggested they play a game to pass the time. He said to the Indian - "You ask me a question and if I can't answer it correctly, I'll give you $100. Then I'll ask you a question, and if you can't answer it correctly, you give me $5." The Indian thought about it for a minute and then agreed to play the game. So Einstein said "OK - you start". So the question was:- "What goes up a hill with 4 legs, and comes back down with only 3?" Einstein thought and thought, and eventually said "OK, I give in - I have no idea - here is your $100. So what does go up a hill with 4 legs and comes back down with only 3?" To which the Indian replied:- "I have no idea - here is your $5" ????
