Speaking as an admin on a FB group of 26k members, you were rightly booted out. Admins do a tough job keeping a group running, I put in hours a day. Admins don’t get paid, rarely get thanks or recognition but frequently have tell people who usually already know, why they’ve been suspended. The last thing an admin needs is a smartarse having a go at them. If the group was that boring why did you stay?
Caution is definitely the way to go. Be very careful and you’ll be ok. There are scammers galore but genuine sellers too. I’ve bought and sold on marketplace but not in Thailand.
Most of what’s on eBay is also on Lazada and shopee at much cheaper prices so I seldom buy on eBay. There are so many scammers on eBay these days (speaking from experience) that I rarely sell anything anymore. My last attempt at selling a high value watch had 3 different scammers trying to get it.
One of my Thai friends said I shouldn’t indicate because the other drivers will know what you’re doing and try to stop you. She was absolutely right, that’s just what they childishly do, but I don’t follow her advice.
Not wrong at all. But it’s a pointless argument for me. That area at night time, it’s for you not me. As for other more normal areas, I have experienced taxis that refuse to use their meter, fine I can wait for one that will, or Grab, or Bolt.
Yeah living in central bkk in excess of 10 years just isn’t long enough to have gained any experience. Believe it or not Bangkok doesn’t begin and end in late night Sukhumvit. And your experience doesn’t change the facts.
The “poor” taxi driver has fixed his meter which is illegal.
Not everyone on TT is there to make money, it’s not that easy.
Taxi fares in Bangkok are not supposed to be negotiated. That’s what a legal meter is for.More fool you if you allow yourself to be scammed by negotiating.
So you would be quite happy to let the taxi scam you and charge you whatever price he feels like? He’s just a poor person after all. The tik tok guy is a good guy because he’s trying to save others from being cheated. A bottom feeder is someone who cheats others, not someone who exposes a scammer.
I sometimes wonder what’s made these grumpy old men so nasty, or have they always been like this?
When I was a teenage backpacker I met some incredibly nice and kind people all over the world. They were kind, interesting and interested and went out of their way for us. Probably the best thing I learned was to be like that myself.
