I no longer buy Thai seafood products from the supermarkets in Australia, and don't consume in Thailand either.

I hope the kids grow up understanding the well organized and professional operation was responsible for their rescue. Not some fairy tale.

I just don't know why they waste public money on promoting her name.
She won't go to jail.
She won't face any meaningful penalty.
She will waste thousands of hours of police and court time that will in the end equate to nothing.
So, what's the point?
The point is as the case moves through the justice system, financial arrangements will be made at every twist and turn.

Wow, do you think the guy in picture wai is going to soften the sharp finger pointing of the cop. What crime did he commit?

I suspect all the fuss about the crock is a reaction to show some interest in tourist safety, nothing wrong with that. They sure have some work to do if this is going to spill over to real safety on the roads, jet skis, boat propellers, parasailing and well the list goes on. Good luck with that.

“We don’t have direct power to enforce the law but we have seen many problems emerge from this boat tragedy.”
No power to enforce laws, witch laws are they unable to enforce? If no laws can be enforced what is the point of the Navy having anything to do with this and I assume he is referring to the Navies power in relation to this incident.
Also, clearly the Police have power, power to seize company assets, imprison the boats engineer and detain the owner of the tour company.
"A draft tour boat management enforcement procedure is currently being prepared.” This is a positive move, but how about a talk fest to announce and introduce this procedure when it is complete.
You don't have to be too cynical to be concerned that this may be the first and last time this procedure is mentioned.

The use of the word "lure" always gets me. Sounds seedy like trick, connive to dupe, to fool them into coming to be fleeced and scammed.

Surely most of you dont actually live in Thailand. If you do, then clearly most of you dont understand the country or the people - and certainly not the language.
Translation is one of the first steps to understanding another language or culture. The first is wanting to - clearly most here dont. That is not what he said. He didnt say it in English, he said what he said in Thai and the translation applied is wrong - according to the wife (and that makes sense to me). The wife does not like or hate the PM - right now business is bad for the poorer people in Thailand and good for the rich - she does not support what him/Junta have been doing to economy - but she likes the attacks that have been made on corruption and that the wealthy are not getting away with as much as they used to (hotels are being shut down - property is being resumed - etc etc - that did not happen before).
I also dont read newspapers or watch news on TV because it is all so negative. Not just about Trump, but about everything. Good news gets nowhere while bad news travels around the world in minutes. If all you do is listen to and watch bad news stories, it will make you negative towards life. Thais are all about enjoying life - they avoid bad news and bad issues. They know and understand that it really is a load of khr**p and it only makes them feel negative. Yes - that attitude makes some things that need addressing to be avoided, but overall I like that way and that attitude to life. Newspapers and TV News are too much about negative issues - they blow it all out of proportion and watching/listening to it is not good for you - if you want to keep a positive outlook on life. Try if for a while - you will be amazed how little all that stuff actually matters. Eg. Israel and Arabs/Palestinians etc - what difference does it make to my/your life really? It has been a disaster since I was a boy - always was and always will be - but all that trouble has made absolutely no difference to my/your life. The same applies for so many other issues/problems.
Disagree, We must remain informed at all times a strong press is the cornerstone of any democracy and an informed population will keep the leaders on their toes and looking over their shoulder as Prayut clearly is.
Thailand's No 1 issue is to be aware and to discuss the Junta's theft of freedom from the people. The Generals are corrupt and stand to vastly increase their riches at the expense of the countries advancement economically and politically. They must never be allowed to relax with the belief that the people are duped by their propaganda.
Informed discussion is The Junta's biggest fear, if it brings only a little anxiety to the corrupt then it is effective and far from negative.
One day we will move from situations of conflict, we will then look back in disbelief as to how we tolerated it for so long, the potential for change will only be realised by freedom of information and how we use it.
You may say I'm a dreamer.?

So in a gangster movie it would simply translate as, "sending the boys around to have a quiet word"
Or perhaps "making an offer they couldn't refuse"

Just now, rkidlad said:Odd how a local bird, etc, flashing her tits in public causes so much outrage and has so many commentators preaching morality and culture, yet stories about teachers raping children seemingly don't evoke even 10% of the outrage or comments. It comes across as extremely visceral, shallow and narcissistic.
As suggested by other posters he may have connections, if this is the case the Thais know their place and will not complicate their lives by speaking out.

‘Phoenix’ salvage ordered while investigation continues

It's hard not to notice particularly in times of crisis, that all sorts of numpties bloated with a sense of self importance have to rush in and make public statements on the issue and demonstrate a great ability for foot in mouth disease.
Police Chiefs, Governors, Vice governors, Navy Admirals, Tourism Ministers they all have a go.
