How much money 7-11s make per month (range)?
gomangosteen replied to timoti's topic in General Topics
As it happens! When we moved to our town (population 7000, supporting a surrounding rural area) in 2011 there was one 7-11 here, no other franchises. Now - three 7-11 stores, one CJs (next to a 7-11), and a Lotus Go Fresh supermarket. 9km away on the road to the coast, two 7-11s directly opposite each other. Amazon too; I'm waiting on Mr DIY - they've opened four stores in Chanthaburi city, handy for those small handyman items. -

As answered on another thread on same topic: Thairath today states the investigation involving this man and a 15 year old girl was never concluded - so never any conviction. Also - to clarify - appears Pattaya News maybe got lost in translation - it was the Thai man charged with the offence of human trafficking, this German man Hans Peter Mack was charged as the 'customer' of the underage girl; as does the Nation state "Hans Peter Walter Mack, 56, who was allegedly a customer"

You may reach the 'resistance is futile' state of attitude. Beyond looking after oneself and your family, little can be done to change the way it is. Ten days ago, Friday 30th afternoon after school, a classmate of our daughter died in a motorcycle collision, overtaking a car on a bend, hit an oncoming vehicle head-on. She was 17, her younger brother, pillion, 12, died that evening in hospital. Only made the local Facebook news, bike was unregistered, she wasn't old enough to have a licence, neither wearing helmets. Teachers attended the combined funeral - the same teachers who stand for their wai in the morning and at the gates in the afternoon as pupils arrive on motorbikes, no helmets, no licences etc. When i do school pickup I see the kids racing away, over/under-taking us down the hill from school, as fast as the little bikes will go often carrying three students. Friday morning i was waiting at an intersection in town, policeman on traffic control waving through these same kids on their way to school. Daughter watches The Mandalorian tv series, their catchphrase she likes to say to me is "This is the way" - I think that applies here too.

buffalo - staring me down and looking aggressive~
gomangosteen replied to hellohello's topic in Farming in Thailand Forum
Won't comment on the 'many' but point out Google doesn't do Thai at all well, and that few deaths in a population of 67 million+ are reported by media - only the 'dramatic' ones get coverage - otherwise, using as an example the estimated 25,000 traffic-related deaths a year we'd have around 500 of them a week. Few get reported on. I'm only aware of one water buffalo fatality - and that's because it occurred in our province and made local news. We've also had a fatality by lightning, two uxo/landmine incidents that don't merit 'news' and would have escaped Google's attention. On Friday 30th June two high school students, one a classmate of our daughter, died in a motorcycle collision about 800m from our home. Apart from the community Facebook page, it was never reported in any news media, Thai or English. -
Teenage girl wants motorcycle

And I'm the opposite, adding up I'd estimate I've owned a car around four years of my life; always motorbikes ever since high school. Had company vehicles at times for work purposes; no intention of changing my ways now. -

A topic in our household this week. Friday 30th there was a motorscooter v pickup collision about 1km from home, fatalities were daughter's classmate (17) and her brother (12) overtaking on a bend in the road, head-on into an oncoming pickup. Girl died at the scene, brother several hours later in hospital. It's a minor highway but not overly busy. They didn't have helmets though at that impact may not have made any difference. Rural kids traveling to/from the school in our town. Part B is that when she turns 18 next month i want her to get her licence. She's been riding for several years - with me as pillion and manages well with that additional 90kg on the bike, but it's learning the 'awareness' and survival skills that the licence testing doesn't allow for, looking ahead, predicting/anticipating, and aware of following/oncoming traffic. -

I've been chased by a surprisingly quick over short-distance buffalo - mountainbiking (me, not the buffalo) I may have set a new 100m sprint record up a dirt hill. Much to daughter's amusement when i told her, the bright green t-shirt I wore that day since renamed the 'buffalo shirt'. Jokes aside - not long after that event it was in Thai news a farmer was gored/killed by one of his own buffalo. Planning his next cyclist chase? -
Why you should never leave a negative hotel review in Thailand
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
We talked about this last night, in our years or travel here in Thailand and Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia there hasn't been a hotel/resort we wouldn't stay at again. Several we have re-visited, and recommended to friends. One beach resort we've stayed at numerous times since 2011, lovely location, owners and rooms - just looked at their reviews and a recent '2-star complaint' was that the swimming pool should have been bigger. -

Time To Think About The Tour De Thailand 2024
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
This is a post about an organised event limited to twenty riders. Comments appear to be from mostly those who either cannot or do not ride a bicycle. The 'experts'. I've been riding here since 2008; example last month June 847km, May 1032km. I ride solo, ride with casual groups, ride with organised groups. As do thousands of others. Riding your bar stools is likely more hazardous to one's health???? -
29 June 2013 Thaiger A pickup driver has been detained following a harrowing incident where he fatally struck a cyclist and then discarded the body roadside. The suspect claimed the accident was unintentional and cited poor road lighting as a contributing factor. The horrific incident occurred when 47 year old amateur cyclist Samnao (surname withheld) was struck by a vehicle while he was returning from his regular workout. The impact was so strong that it tore his bicycle into two pieces and caused him to be lodged in the front of the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Jirapong (surname withheld), then transported the deceased victim nearly 5 kilometres before discarding the body along the Kamphaeng Phet – Tha Ma Khue road. During questioning, he said that he was returning home in low visibility when his vehicle collided head-on with the bicycle. The cyclist was flung onto the bonnet of his car, and in a panic, he drove off. Nearing his home, he gently removed the body from his vehicle and left it by the roadside before fleeing the scene. He later parked his vehicle in a field before making a phone call to his village leader to confess the hit-and-run incident. He planned to turn himself in the following morning.

A new question on an older thread . . . What tree is this? An area of 8 rai near us was raised above road level, I presume for eventual housing, and then planted out in these trees Fast-growing, under three years since planting, some are approaching 2m tall. thanks in advance!

Note your conversions are astray between imperial and metric The weight here in Thailand would be a metric ton ie 1000kg (2205lb), 8 ton equates to 17637 pounds if that is the measurement you choose to use.
