Are there any 'normal' farangs living in Thailand?
gomangosteen replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Our town, pop. 9,000 has no hotel/pub/bar, no licensed cafes. Best barstool bs-ing farang deterrent ever. -

NZ: Patrick Gower calls for canned children's feral cat killing competition to return The Newshub journalist is encouraging Rotherham School to "get the competition back on" and even offered a reward. Discussing the matter on AM panel, Gower said he will always be on the side of native birds when it comes to feral cats "every single day of the week". "If they're going to hunt, and there are feral cats in the way, then we have to wipe them out." "Feral cats need to be shot, they need to be run over, they need to be trapped, they need to be wiped off the face of Aotearoa, New Zealand." Gower is encouraging Rotherham School to "get the competition back on" and to "get the kids back out there". If they do, he's offering his own reward for children who hunt feral cats. Gower told AM if the children are from hunting families and are shooting rabbits and possums anyway, then feral cats should be targeted too. "We need to look at wiping them out and I support Rotherham School and what they're doing."

The competition itself is not cancelled, just that there is no longer a category for feral cats, which may still be shot but won't count towards competition points. . . The competition is a beloved community event and fundraiser for Rotherham School and pool, attracting more than 900 participants in 2022, 250 of which were in the junior category. Juniors hunted animals including possums, ducks, hares, rabbits, rats and geese. Feral cats have a major impact on native wildlife, and its introduction as a category was mostly met with praise by locals. . . NZ Department of Conservation The control techniques that we currently use to control feral cats are poisoning, trapping and shooting. Where cats are lethally controlled, DOC uses efficient and humane best-practice techniques and adheres to the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

The clue there maybe that it was cheap. NZ beef exports in 2022 $1.9 billion to China, $1.4 billion to USA, Thailand doesn't appear on any list I can find so guessing very low volume or forward from another country. Just saying you may not have tried them all?

Notorious Aussie drug lord sentenced to 20 years in jail
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Could possibly be out at age 73 if he behaves: "12-year non-parole term, which was backdated to 2020." -
Suggest next year he wears a Mohammed costume as fancy dress. What could possibly go wrong? Reminded here of the Nzer Philip Blackwood who was sentenced to 2.5 yrs hard labour in Myanmar for displaying a picture of Buddha wearing headphones at his bar. Yes, people can be 'sensitive' over such matters. As I mentioned earlier, as a Thai he'll get away with it. A westerner, less likely.

Army will not arrest Phra Netiwit for alleged draft dodging
gomangosteen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
And one more on the topic of annual conscription, broadening the net of candidates: For 2023 the minimum height for candidates has been reduced from 159cm to 146cm. For those imperial-minded folk that's 5' 2 1/2" down to 4' 9 1/2". Small arms experience? -
Army will not arrest Phra Netiwit for alleged draft dodging
gomangosteen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes indeed. We know two young men who attended the black/red day on Sunday. One of each, one out, one in, but there's a catch. The one who 'drew black' ensured that outcome by making a payment of 60,000 baht on Saturday. A double catch, agreed fee had been 30,000 until Friday Inflation? Annual cost of living increase? -

Didn't find the 2022 number, but for 2021 it was 3,524 volunteers, far fewer than the hoped for 10,000. Result, 6,500 more conscripts required. -
Aimée Kwan, the only British-Thai actress in John Wick Chapter 4
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
US 4250 million in first two weeks, but yet to match John Wick: Chapter 3’s $327 million ... sure it will. I saw it while in NZ same day as family here went, it's fictional escapism, but perhaps a generation or two removed from much of this forum's demographic. I saw Living too, star performance from Bill Nighy facing his death (now that one probably would resonate here) -
Tourist Visa Question
gomangosteen replied to Simon1287's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Some notes on the previous post. My most recent 30-day extension on a 60-day Tourist visa - Chanthaburi immigration gave me the extension at around the 45 day mark (this after my phone inquiry) they did not add the 30 days from that date, but from the date of the 60 day expiry as stamped in my passport. Not a new thing this has always been the way for me while working offshore intermittently for the past six years. -
I'm not in Bangkok - Chanthaburi - yesterday bought a new bike off one of the local ProBike dealers, that shop and two others here have their own social cycling groups with midweek evening and weekend rides to match rider capabilities, midweek usually 30-40km, weekends 60-100km. Apart from those rides, good place to meet other cyclists, learn the best places to ride. I clocked 38,000km on my last bike, had one accident 2013 which was my fault, early days I was stopped by Highway Police on Sukhumvit Rd and told it wasn't the place to be and given an alternative route, helpful advice The police here also have a family cycling group, but I haven't been invited to that one, saw them out yesterday parents and kids, good healthy activity. Don't be put off by the negatives, the local cyclists/shops are your best resource.

Some nostalgia, 20 years ago 2003. Prompted me to trade my Speed Triple for a TT600 Speed Four 2003 – BACK ON TRACK New Zealander Bruce Anstey sent a resounding message to the racing world when his Triumph Daytona 600 romped to first place in the 2003 Junior TT, finishing 10.96 seconds ahead of his nearest rival and recording the fastest Supersport TT time of 1:15.13.98. He was joined in the top 10 by two other Triumph ValMoto teammates. After a 28-year absence, Triumph was back.

Bangkok officials urge caution as heatwave hits the capital
gomangosteen replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Yes, agree, though that same BP source did provide a detailed explanation; the 50C they're referring to (actually reached 50.2C today) is "realfeel" some weather sites refer to this as "feels like" I returned on Sunday from a cooler climate, simple explanation that a temperature is taken in a shaded sheltered area, so for example an 11C day may have a "realfeel" of 7C if there's a strong wind, rain - wind chill factor. We went out cycling today, temp showed as 34C but realfeel 40C. But for us we needed another level - the heat off the asphalt was intense. Definition: The RealFeel Temperature is an index that describes what the temperature really feels like. It is a unique composite of the effects of temperature, wind, humidity, sunshine intensity, cloudiness, precipitation and elevation on the human body -everything that affects how warm or cold a person feels -
Knew two IOM riders when I lived in NZ, both from New Plymouth, Mike King (dnf) and Shaun Harris (two wins and numerous top ten finishes), both survived serious race-career ending accidents there. Earlier this year read that the Ireland road races were unlikely to proceed due to the high cost of insurance to the organisers - brought about by the number of injuries and deaths. Don't know of any updates to this, are they going ahead? Hope this thread continues, I'm not so interested in MotoGP now but may go to Sepang again this year.

^ I was wrong. Thanks for info. And so is Police General Damrongsak Kittiprapas who on 4 April made the police statement to media that "they would not be returned to Thailand for trial as there is no extradition treaty between Bangkok and Beijing " Foolish of me to think a Police General would know such things! In this case Damrongsak was Damn wrong.

Always dependent upon how many flights arrived around the same time. I flew in from Melbourne yesterday, from arrival in the terminal to leaving in a taxi - 36 minutes, would have been quicker if I didn't have to wait a few minutes for luggage. Previous arrival in December was around 50 minutes with only a carry-on bag, anything under an hour to exit I'm ok with.

They stole my peanut butter!
gomangosteen replied to bradiston's topic in Suvarnabhumi Airport Forum
You don't say where you're departing from. Peanut butter was in the news a week ago. Thought your 100g would be a small enough quantity. TSA confirms it considers peanut butter a liquid CNN) – The Transportation Security Administration has confirmed it considers peanut butter a liquid which means you aren’t allowed to bring large containers of it onto planes.
