  1. With the worldwide financial retreat, currency exchange retreats, low interest rates, combined with an increase with inflation, I was wondering if anyone heard of any rumors, or saw any recent postings on the Thai Immigration website, or news reports, regarding any new changes involving qualifications for retirement extensions. I would be interested in hearing about any new recent changes from the 3 months seasoning of funds in a Thai bank rule when opting for combined income and declaring foreign income. And, any new increases in financial requirements for total income, other than the current limit of 800,000, THB.

Of course everyone is watching current exchange rates which could have a dramatic effect on financial qualifying with the combination option, especially if some foreign currencies are devalued. I understand 4 countries recently devalued their currencies. It appears the safest option would be to have 800,000 + in a Thai bank so one would not have to worry too much if they could afford it. If they devalued the THB currency that could be a big surprise.

I'm currently planning many months ahead of application time trying to avoid speed bumps and pot holes!hit-the-fan.gif

Any new information would be helpful to all applicants...coffee1.gif

  2. Keep shopping they are here. Many dentists here carry the Oral B medium brush.

I also recommend the Oral B, small circular electric toothbrush to eliminate brushing time. As we age, we get lazy! Be sure to brush along the gum line and tongue where bacteria and tarter builds up. I ordered mine from America, on line.

Brush after every meal if possible. Floss once or twice a day.

After using the electric brush, floss, and then use the manual toothbrush and brush side to side then down to remove tarter and lose food particles. Clean off the mirror! cheesy.gif That is what eventually ends up on your roots!

Seniors should concentrate on cleaning out teeth, gum pockets with small wire brushes and plastic picks for the hard to reach areas.

I would limit mouth wash as I read that chemicals in mouth wash over time causes gums to pull away from teeth a little. I noticed it with my gums.

I use a mixture of coconut oil and diluted baking soda as tooth paste. I add Turmeric from time to time.

When flossing, I spray Hydrogen Peroxide on the floss to kill bacteria.

Seniors and people who have bad teeth and gums should consider visiting a Periodontist for a periodic, deep root scraping. It’s well documented that bacteria build up on the roots can leak into the blood stream and cause illness and even heart attacks. A regular cleaning by a dentist does not clean the roots. Over the years, foods get pushed down in areas the dentist can’t reach.

For those who don’t live here the above cleaning is very cheap compared to other countries. So get it done here as well as annual physical checkups.

Most seniors say, "I didn’t expect to live this long." "Had I know, I would have taken better care of myself!"

The best investment you can make is maintaining your gums and teeth. If you disagree, price out what happens when you lose them….

If you disagree with the above, start saving your money now for the future as you will need all of it!

It took me 69 years to learn all of the above. Glad I did. No dentures or bridges here….clap2.gif

  3. I moved out of a condo back in Feb 2016 that had that problem. It was in the drain, Every time the swimming pool was drained that smell was in the plumbing. After several complaints and no fix got my deposit back and moved for safety reasons. Condo was located on Soi 18 Sukhumvit.

PCV pipes do retain the odor longer and do collect more fungus. Perhaps the fungus acts as a chemical sponge. Most pipes in Thailand are plastic, PCV or similar.

  4. Yesterday 5th June I was invited by a thai friend to visit HTMS Chakri Naruebet. An aircraft carrier vessel which is moored at the dock within The Thai navy museum in Sattahip. A drive of about 1 hour or so from Pattaya.

The vessel so i believed was open to all the public.

Necessary to provide proof of ID before getting onto the vessel. So as a foreigner i brought along my passport.

On arriving at the museum we went to where the vessel was docked. An official was at the boarding point screening people and I could see that there many people, including Thai families already on the vessel.

However when the official saw me it was made clear to my Thai friend that as I was non Thai I was not allowed onto the vessel as it was still in active service and we were turned away.

What a waste of my time!

This is just another example of the continuing and growing discrimination against foreigners in Thailand; be it for new unfair immigration requirements, land ownership, price discrimination and so on, etc etc.

There will surely come a time if not here already that most of us who contribute a lot financially to the Thai economy and to the well being of the people here will say enough is enough and look elsewhere to live.

    Am I correct or not?

Most governments that protect their sovereignty will bar foreignors from boarding their active duty war ship.

    You could be a spy.

Your post is negative and creates polorization which leads to discrimination and possible violence.

  5. Tipping up to you and better in the hand for future better service from the same service person. When word spreads you are not a cheap Charlie they all come running toward you!

  6. Just a reminder on a retirement visa extension. If you forget to obtain an entry permit, and exit Thailand you lose the retirement visa and have to start all over. Immigration Officers over the years recommended to me to always obtain a multi entry visa after obtaining the retirement visa extension. Even if you don't plan to leave. An emergency might force you to leave without obtaining an entry permit.

As we say here...."up to you."

  7. As soon as you set up a Thai Bank savings account if you don't already have one wire as much money as you can for the future into Thailand.

Many Thai banks now require a work visa to open an account, but not all.

Kasikorn Bank Mgr. in Nana told me if I close any account I can't reopen another without a work visa even with my retirement visa extension. I've been a customer for 9 years.

I would also move to Thailand ASAP.

  8. Sounds like you need a backup girl friend!smile.png

Everyone has backup, the Police, FBI, Special Forces and more.

    AKA....fall back!

Spend a little less time with the #1 and she will appreciate you more.

The backup, #2, will treat you better and perhaps buy you a gift till she catches you, then same, same problem.

Also, with inflation, perhaps it's time to pay her more! That might get a gift....coffee1.gif

I find it better to live alone, and have two girlfriends. It seems to refresh the relationship if you see less of them.

As they get older, they generally both work harder too!

Perhaps one day, we will all live together when the chase is over and no body wants us.cheesy.gif

  9. In my opinion you should not be asking that question in this forum.

Immigration policy changes like the wind. Each office and at times each Immigration Officer deviates from policy.

I recommend you direct the attention to an Immigration Officer in your district and be sure to get the name of the Officer in case the policy changes when you go in to Immigration to submit your application. It would be a bummer to find out you got the wrong information.

I've been told that Immigration prefers to see the money in a savings account. However, it's better to have two and draw from only one so not to fall short for the qualification.

Never ask banking questions to a clerk. It's better to ask the branch Manager.

I also recommend going to the Immigration web site for confirmation, specifically the Q & A and retirment extension content. Check it frequently.

I've lived in Thailand for 9 years. I found that Kasikorn bank is more cooperative with confirmation letters and don't require me to come back the following day to pick up the letter. They also have better exchange rates when accepting wires from America in US$. Their ATM machines are better in my opinion than Bangkok Bank. I've had nothing, but cooperation problems with Siam Bank and more!

I start preparing for my application extension documents 60 days in advance and submit over 45 days in advance with travel tickets outside the country. For those doing the financial combination, pay close attention to exchange rates. It's better to have over 800,000 in the bank with the exchange rates jumping around like they are. However, it's concerning to have that sum of money in the bank for 3 months. I always secure a multi entry visa. Caution; with a retirement visa extension if you leave Thailand and don't apply for an entry visa you lose your retirement visa extension.sad.png

  10. I'd prefer cremation and my ashes spread at sea for another journey!

The thought of friends weaping over me at an expensive funeral and then being in an expensive casket lowered into the ground is frightening. How scary would it be if you woke up and found yourself alive trapped underground?

I wonder just how many are actually embalmed here in Thailand?

I personally avoid funerals and would never have one for myself. Too damn depressing and a waste of money in my opinion.

  11. It was probably displaced anger and had nothing to do with you.

She could have had a bad day, got bad news, sick, family problems....who knows.

Married men get this from their wives from time to time.

    Just go with the flow....

They have long hours and monotonous work.

They are human. Perhaps she just read negative postings on Thai Visa about Immigration and the Police and was thinking about that!

The more negative comments about government workers the more disrespect we will get!

  12. If you have no hair, more than 10 missing teeth, need a walker, on oxygen, and have lots of money, Thailand has many gals for you!

What makes an old man old is an old western woman! In my opinion of course!

A younger woman will take you to the dentist, throw out the walker, and open up the lung capacity,

A combination of sunshine, long walks, healthy, farm fresh fruits and veggies and youthful energy will transform you into a new man with a younger mind and stronger body.

Get out of the lounge chair, stop worrying and and start a new, happy life.

Only you can make it happen with positive thoughts.

  13. I did it many times over the years to Vietnam and back the same day for a visa run.

However, best to carry both passports.

I recommend sliding your passports into a plastic bank book cover for protection as many airlines and Immigration Offices are now complaining about damaged/worn passports and two years ago an airline tried to prevent me from flying to a foreign country that enforced the passport damage/worn rule.

I actually got the US Embassy here to issue me a new passport 8 months early because of a worn cover.
