"If you are not prepared to follow our advice at this time then don't bother coming," he stated.

I will follow the advice of medical practitioners around the world including the WHO (even the WHO in Thailand recently gave the correct advice).  They pretty much unanimously disagree with this idiot.  The government at least should censure him and point out to the public that this was one man's misguided opinion and place him out of the public's eye.

Is it safe to receive a letter or a package from China?

Yes, it is safe. People receiving packages from China are not at risk of contracting the new coronavirus. From previous analysis, we know coronaviruses do not survive long on objects, such as letters or packages.

Were did you get that advice from?   Do you have a link?

The link from the WHO in the previous post states:

    Quote
    • If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with suspected 2019-nCoV infection.
    • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.

It is not just a flu.  That is misleading.   If you want to be complacent that is up to you.  I would recommend that you and readers read, listen and adhere to the advice given by the WHO.  This is serious.

And the advice given by the WHO is that the general public should not wear masks unless they have a respiratory ailment themselves.  In which case, the masks will protect others from the wearer not to protect the wearer. Their main recommendation is focused on hygiene. i.e. wash hands regularly and try to avoid touching your face.

"It's just 'flu" is a throwaway comment.  However, the influenza virus  has been studied for decades and a lot is known about it.  It is predictable every season. The vaccine, which only gives around 60% protection is modified twice a year to cater for the ever mutating virus.

The problem with WuFlu is that we don't know much about it but it appears that 'flu is much more deadly.... so far.

Anutin Charnvirakul of the Thai public health ministry Suggesting kicking farangs out of the country

Think someones getting annoyed that hes not being listened too.. You cant have it both ways, one time you want to say dont worry, its under control, dont panic.. The next you want to kick out europeans because they snubbed him and wouldnt take a health mask.

    Maturity much ??

But the World Health Organization's own Thailand office tweeted a graphic on Feb 4 stating masks are "not needed for general public who do not have respiratory symptoms".

The WHO has advised people to wash their hands regularly and avoid touching their face.

    Never ..

    There is none against SARS,
there is none against a simple hay fever,
there is none against the flu,
    and there won't be any against coronavirus;

all this is free publicity made by the government to prevent people from panicking

A vaccine for SARS is currently going through trials.

There is already a 'hay fever' shot.

There is a vaccine for 'flu (flu jab) although the vaccine has to be modified twice a year due to the mutating 'flu virus.  It gives around 60% protection.

No reason why a WuFlu jab won't be developed but could take years.

I am a little confused, this chart (https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/THBUSD/) of the THB/USD seems to show the opposite? Am I missing something or has the THB strengthened against the USD since new year started?

I think you're reading the figures upside down.  The THB has weakened against the dollar which is now over 31 baht and on track to weaken further.

TOPS at Jomtien this morning 3 N95 masks in a foil pack 165 baht for 3. Bought 3 packs. A couple of weeks bought quite a few from 7/11 single packs for 35 baht each back then. Tops is owned by Central Group Thailand's third richest family. Go figure !

And 7/11's are owned by the richest family in Thailand. The Chearavanont family, according to Forbes.

But the healthy 34 year old doctor who exposed the outbreak just died, likely from cytokine storm, a major cause of death like the Spanish flu.

As for only Wuhan, just saw this:

-- Friendly compassionate Virus. Looking to travel the world with someone special. Resist movement supporter. Biologically attracted to both sexes.

Strange, that according to published figures if true, 71% of deaths/infections are males according to a WHO report.

The doctor was not the first or only healthy person to have died.  However, it's reported that 80% are over 60 and 75% had pre-conditions.

  10. Start of another day in the 'End of the World' saga. Figures updated at 07:53 Thai time today:

    31,481 confirmed cases ( up 3,205, (4,824 (15%) in critical condition)

Deaths: 638 (up 73 same as yesterday)

    1,563 recovered. (up 391)

And should be noted that 98% if these stats are in the Hubei province.

I think Thailand should let the rest of the medical world know how they can have a patient in and out of hospital in 4-5 days when the rest of the world have a 14 day quarantine period.

That was 4 - 5 days after he was confirmed with the corona virus.  His recovery is far from unique.

The 'rest of the world' are quarantining people who arrive from, or have visited, China.  These 14 day quarantines are for people who have not been confirmed with the virus.  It takes into consideration the incubation period of up to 14 days.  If after 14 days quarantine, the individual is tested negative for the virus, then his/her quarantine is over.

    Understand now?

    Who said there was? !

"Treatment" presumably means some combination of standard flu/pneumonia treatments: IV, O2.

Perhaps the news reports should have used the word "care"?

FWIW, some Thai authories claim the retroviral "treatment" was vital to the 73 YO woman's recovery/"cure".

That said, he seems to have made a "miraculous" recovery.

You mentioned 'treatment' but I gather you were quoting other sources.  The symptoms can be treated and those symptoms vary from case to case.  Some are 'treated' at home and hospitalisation is not necessary.

Most people will recover.  Some people get no symptoms at all and others can have very mild symptoms.  The recovery period can be as short as a few days, or a couple of weeks in more serious cases.
