Here is another take on karma. A true story... About 10 years ago, I made a withdrawal of 100,000 Baht at a bank on Pattaya Tai. I then popped into Tukcom, and privately decided to count the money. DUH! Should have done it while in the bank! When I counted it, it came to 101,000 Baht. So, I went back to the same cashier and had her recount it. Sure enough, 101,000. I gave here the extra 1,000 with profuse thanks from her. Still with me? When I got outside again, I bought a lottery ticket with the number 101. On lottery day, the ticket won me 2,000 Baht. Total coincidence, right? But, makes you wonder ... .

My reply: I just checked the above website for the cost of a colonoscopy. The Australian average cost was $2,165. At 23.03 THB to the Australian dollar (as of today), that works out to 49,864 Baht. I had a colonoscopy done in Pattaya at BHP in June 2022. The total cost was just under 21,000 Baht. So that is at least one procedure which is much cheaper at a private hospital here in Pattaya. I didn't use insurance, but paid cash for the procedure. This was the third colonoscopy I have had at BHP in Pattaya. The first found some pre-cancerous polyps, so money well spent.

O-A retirement medical insurance
LarryLEB replied to Jai Dee 962's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I entered Thailand on O-A in May 2011. I've been in Jomtien since then. Immigration here requires the mandatory insurance. I bought my insurance from a Thai company in a couple weeks after my arrival in 2011, so I already had it before the mandate was brought in. I will change to O sometime in the next year, so I have more decision room as the policy rates increase with age. -
How Fast Can You Touch Type? Does It Matter Now?
LarryLEB replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
When I was in high school (Grades 9 - 12) in Canada, my father insisted that I add a Typing class to my curriculum. I did so for all 4 years of high school. These were the days before electric typewriters. He said it would be very helpful when I entered University. And, he was right! Brilliant! Can still touch-type today: probably 50 - 60 wpm. -
Dentist in Pattaya for complex tooth extraction
LarryLEB replied to CanNot's topic in Health and Medicine
In the last few months, I've had 2 molars extracted. Both extractions were complicated, and I had them done by a dental surgeon at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. Since then, the same doctor did an implant to replace one of the molars. Very happy with all the work done. PM me if you would like the name of the doctor. -
I understand the poster's hankering... A few months ago, I knew I was having some dental surgery done soon, so I bought a box of Cream of Wheat at Villa Market in Pattaya. Had to eat soft foods for a few weeks.... In the past, I had declined to buy it due to the nearly 500 Baht price tag. However, it turns out that the box makes 15 or 16 very big servings (2 cups water; 6 tablespoons Cream of Wheat). At just over 30Baht per serving, the price is really not a concern. I will continue to buy it. Toss some vanilla extract (fake or real) in the water, add some protein powder after cooking, and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. To the OP, I say, GO FOR IT and order from Villa Bangkok. "You'll be glad you did!"

Just checked my records. This month this year, 5401 Baht; last month this year, 3689 = UP 46%, This month this year, 5401, compared to the same month last year, 3884 = UP 39%. So, far from doubled. We have 4 a/c units: two of which are inverters.

Lazada -- no contest.
-
Agreed. Been there, done that. Works a charm. Sometimes have to order two different sizes, hoping that one is correct; then order more of the correct one! I once had a Pattaya tailor make three pairs of slacks (I want to say "pants," but the Brits go nuts if I do). Had to go back FOUR times for "adjustments." Never did fit properly--a waste of money.

This is correct, but the prices are much higher than buying from Lazada. We have bought 3 Xiaomi units and numerous filters for them from Lazada. All 3 purifiers are running and doing a good job after three years of use.

Injury around elbow from 10 pin bowling
LarryLEB replied to homeseeker's topic in Health and Medicine
If the elbow pain is on the side of the elbow closest to the body, it is "golfer's elbow" (medial epicondylitis). If the pain is on the side of the elbow away from the body, it is "tennis elbow" (lateral epicondylitis). If have medial epicondylitis of the elbow and find that wet heat (aka hottish shower) on the affected area helps (better than the dry heat of a heating pad). I used to use Arcoxia, but now, if needed, I use Atulox, which is exactly the same as Arcoxia, but half the price: both products are Etoricoxib. I buy Atulox at the Pattaya pharmacies with the distinctive orange colour. (not sure I'm allowed to name the pharmacy chain) My orthopedist advises to use no longer than 5 days in a row, one tablet per day. Available dosages are 60, 90. and 120 mg. Be sure to read Sheryl's cautions in her above posts: If you use Etoricoxib, use with caution. I second Sheryl's advice regarding the use of Ibuprofen as well. Note, however, that ibuprofen and etoricoxib should NOT be taken together; use one or the other! My situation is more chronic; I don't expect to ever be completely pain-free, but lowering the pain works for me! -
I had difficulty finding what was wrong with my blurred vision. Ophthalmologists here in Pattaya -- many seen with no results. A trip to Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok did the trick IN ONE VISIT! I strongly recommend Rutnin.

This is similar to the exercise called Gravity Drop: Gravity Drop will teach a body to recognize a proper alignment, strengthen and stretch leg and calf muscles, and get the hips out of rotation. It will help to re-establish a link between the heels and knees, hips, and shoulders. [from https://uprightposturefitness.com/better-posture-in-gravity-drop/]

If Putin were to order his general staff to "press the button," I don't think there would be any Russian Roulette. Instead, I believe that one of his high-rankers would put a bullet in Putin's head. (And some of those have likely already secretly discussed possible Plans A, B, C...) There are lots of his generals who would love to be the new "head honcho/tsar." No one wants to be scrambling for primacy over a smouldering, radioactive country -- where's the sense of power and glory in that?

We pre-purchased two Moderna shots from Jomtien Hospital on September 20. Just three or four days ago we got an SMS saying that we could make appointments for near the end of January. So, from purchase date to notification to book an appointment was 4 months. (To be honest, this was actually sooner than we might have expected.) In those four months, anytime we phoned Jomtien Hospital regarding when to expect our appointments, we always got a very polite, professional person on the line. Of course, she could only estimate when our appointments would be.

Lasik in Bangkok, clinic and Dr recommendations please
LarryLEB replied to rnalswls2's topic in Health and Medicine
Rutnin gets my vote also. Many trips (Pattaya - Rutnin) for different eye problems. Never disappointed. -
For a meat thermometer, I bought one recently at the very good kitchen supply store on Pattaya Second Road: T K H Kitchen Utensils. It's across the street from Pattaya Soi 13/3.

I won't post the video here, but for a changeup of the serious tone at Christmas, please take a look at Eric Idle's F*** Christmas. Easily found on the internet / Youtube.
