I've just read an article regarding Vietnam that says: Enforcement: The law was enforced through fines and penalties, making it more economical for riders to purchase a helmet than to face the consequences of riding without one. Where you have a totalitarian regime who does not have to worry about public opinion, they can impose such rules with impunity.
-
I think not. I suspect that the owner, the guy in the helmet, has just had his unregistered, mirrorless motorcycle impounded by the police officer. Who should be wearing a helmet of course, but when duty calls............

I'm in agreement with you regarding meds. I really do think that they should be the very last resort. I have to make a night time bathroom visit, I was often having trouble getting back to sleep again. I've finally cracked it using the 4-7-8 breathing routine. I don't wait to see whether I'm likely to stay awake after my nocturnal visit, I just assume that I am and go straight into the routine as soon as I get back into bed. I also picked up another tip. Once I feel that I'm beginning to drift. I start to count down from 300 in 3s. (297-294-291 and so on) I don't think I've ever got below 200. And here's a new one that I just happened to stumble upon this morning. 'The 4 word sleep phrase'. I haven't tried this one yet, (obviously) but the article suggests that the 2 methods can be combined. Links to both methods below. Good luck in your endeavours. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324417 https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/liking-the-child-you-love/202505/the-4-word-sleep-trick-that-stops-3-am-overthinking#:~:text=The Four-Word Sleep Phrase%3A “This Thought Can Wait”&text=When you say it to,or arguing with your brain.

My UK passport. Where can I get it checked
Moonlover replied to Magictoad's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Ah thanks for that. New passport, new layout. I still don't think that the O/P has a problem. Why not send the embassy an email with a copy of the 'offending page' @Magictoad? You should get a definitive answer from them. -
My UK passport. Where can I get it checked
Moonlover replied to Magictoad's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
In the passport that I'm looking at right now, the Emergency Contacts page IS on the inside of the back cover! The O/P said: 'It's the very back, last page otherwise blank and of no official use'. Unless I hear otherwise from him , I'll take that as read. -

The information that you write inside the back cover of your passport has no bearing whatsoever on the validity of the passport at all. No one will be the least bit interested in what you have written there unless you die. The British consular should, in theory, contact the person whose name appears there to let them know of your demise. That's all it is there for. So stop worrying about it and get on with your life. -
Not good! Wax does not build up that quickly. It's a slow process, I know I've lived with it for years. You should get your ear checked by a doctor, you might have an infection, either bacterial or fungal.
-
Yes, I've always had more issues in my left ear regarding wax. When I was a regular SCUBA diver, I would have to go to the local clinic around every 6 months or so to get it cleared out. Or better still, get a 'smart visual ear spoon'. My ears have never been so clear since I bought one last year. I can even see my own ear drum!

Accident Dramatic Skid: Air Force C-130 Veers Off Samui Runway
Moonlover replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
The first aircraft I ever saw that had that ability and utilized it was the Blackburn Beverley. (Which was replaced by the Hercules in the 1960s) I recall a young Norwegian airman trying to marshal one into a tight slot and and was quite bemused when the pilot reversed pitch and the aircraft backed up. The marshaller just stood there scratching his head! -

Yes the C130 does have reverse thrust and can even taxi backwards. But the pilot would not choose this option when he had no brakes. He would likely end up going backwards out of control! Not good. His best option would have been to kill the engines and let matters unfold as they will, which is probably what he did. -

The article says that there will be 'on site attendants'. They will be needed to assist the lame and elderly up and down them. They're an accident waiting to happen. -

What Books Are You Reading ? (2025)
Moonlover replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Another great book set in this region is 'Return of a King' by William Dalrymple. It's a true account of the 1st Anglo-Afghan War, when the British East India Company attempted to instal it's own puppet ruler in Kabul. All went well at first, but in the end it resulted in a humiliating defeat , which lead to the retreat from Kabul and the subsequent slaughter in the Hindu Kush. I found it so fascinating that I've have read it twice. -

Good tip. Thank you. I've just checked on Amazon and the Kindle version is just 99 pence. That'll be my next read. Right now I'm reading Sir Max Hastings' account of the Vietnam war. As a Brit I knew very little about it, so it's a real eye opener for me. -
It's reported right here in The Nation: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/general/40049453

1 year marriage extension
Moonlover replied to jacey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Of course, yes. But it's still the same procedure. A marriage extension has to undergo additional checks that are not required for a retirement extension. -
1 year marriage extension
Moonlover replied to jacey's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, that is quite normal. As you're aware you have to present two copies of your application. One copy is sent off to the regional office for your area, who carry out additional checks. Those checks, I am told are to confirm that you and your wife are a genuine item. A lot of sham marriages abound here and the regional offices are better able to sniff out any that may be suspicious. Your local office cannot give the final nod until they have received approval from the regional office. -

Blair says current net zero policies 'doomed to fail'

I'm not talking about the number of hurricanes, I'm talking about the intensity of them. And from the article you have just referenced: 'Savin Chand, a senior lecturer at the Federation University in Australia, while there may be fewer tropical cyclones in the future, it is likely they will be more intense'. Which is more or less what the BBC article said. -
