  1. Actually, in the AJ report (if I remember correctly), action was initiated to extradite the German back to Thailand to face the charges. Will have to see how that unfolds. But, if he is extradited, I doubt he will be getting a refund on the bribe.
  2. Food panda delivery people have always been very good for me. And 90% of them demonstrate genuine gratitude when tipped. And the cost? As @richard_smith237 says, "astonishing". My friends in the States cannot believe the price when I tell them.
  3. Hopefully the Thai banks are ready for the HK/Chinese hackers - they are not rookies.
  4. Just flew to Phnom Phen in October, spent the night, flew back into Suvarnabhumi. No request to see an onward ticket, no request to see 20K baht. Just stamped in "visa exempt" in under a minute. Prior to that, I had extended for 9 straight years based on my work permit. The IO's only question was "Why no re-entry stamp?" As @Chelseafan mentioned, unless you have been border hopping in an obvious attempt to stay long term without a long term visa or extension, they are unlikely to even ask about the onward flight. If they do, as @Keeps suggested, they are likely to accept an explanation for the onward flight being farther out than 30 days. You could even suggest you plan to take a train to another country and back, then "fly home" with the onward ticket. These IOs are typically trying to process 100's of people as fast as possible. Unless the passport "tells some story", they just want to get you through as fast as possible.
  5. And, I do believe, that is precisely where the term McMansion originated from. When I worked in Darien CT, my boss frequently pointed them out.
  6. When will they realize that "invisible" is the best quality for a police officer.
  7. Nine years I did the same with my US taxes. But you do not deduct the income taxed. You compute the taxes owed on the income, then subtract taxes paid here.
  8. Leverage. A powerful tool that must be handled with the greatest of care.
  9. I have been in Thailand for 13 years. and never once have I been asked for a blue (or yellow) book. No bank has ever asked for anything more than my passport. With one exception. When I created a new account for my social security deposits from the US, Bangkok Bank wanted more than just my passport. I needed to also show them my birth certificate and my US social security card. I believe this was a special case because of the US government making direct deposits into the account. Regardless, I did not need a blue book.
  10. 13 years of extensions: marriage (1yr), retirement (2y), work permit (9yr), and now back to retirement this year. All done a Chaeng Watthana. Simple, efficient, never once an attitude or mistreatment. Never felt unwanted. But, several times over the years, I have noticed periods of increased "scrutiny".
  11. Of course, there are moving companies in Thailand. Storage as well. But, as you might imagine, they are very "local" businesses, so it depends on where you are. Here in Bangkok, I have been very happy with a moving company named "Good Move": https://www.goodmove-th.com/ They have moved me three times, each time a townhouse full of stuff. A little more expensive, but very professional. Never needed storage, but considered it once and found many storage places online. Again, in Bangkok.
  12. Being met at the airport by a mob of uniformed police is the start of my fantasy vacation.
  13. Visited a friend back in the US. He had what we call a "McMansion". Over spec-ed, overbuilt, semi-gaudy, gigantic house sitting on 20 acres of property. Across the paved street were a dozen more identical McMansions, albeit on smaller, perfectly manicured, lots. We were sitting on his porch, looking over the houses, and discussing how literally everything he might want to do was a drive of at least 30 minutes. Nothing within walking distance. He then commented, "Isn't this incredible?" I gave him the answer he wanted to hear, "Yeah, it really is." -- Boring AF all. I could not leave soon enough. But. The truth is. He was genuinely very happy.
  14. #11 really hurts, because it does not even require a conviction: "involved ... directly or indirectly ... financial crime". That suggests one just needs to be involved with a crime, which is sounds like it describes the OP's situation exactly. Bummer.
  15. The "supporting" documents are pretty much indentical. The thing to note is that the documents you get from the bank need to be done on the same day. So you need to get those again on the day of your appointment.
  16. Now I am confused. ^_^ The OP was posting for a friend in "Pak Chong" wanting to "border bounce to Cambodia". It was @Yagoda that had the "Cambodian long term visa". Correct?
  17. And this is what happens when you start to hand out free money. The queue of outstretched hands becomes infinitely long.
  18. After 7 days, they can fine you up to 5.000 baht. It is almost universally 2,000 baht, unless you pay the "not polite enough" tax.
  19. Based on the English writing of my first wife, I could easily tell she was from B1tchranistan.
  20. He does not have a lot to offer, compared to other players, but the push to exit China is a solid tailwind. Best make hay while the sun shines.
