  1. As I have been told many times by my attorneys, "get the proper insurance". Insurance is the only solution for "what if...?" Price some insurance that will cover your worst nightmares. Then build the cost of that insurance into the rent.
  2. Typical "western" mentality. I am sure that would make the entire situation so much better. Not. If she was out doing Yaba and hanging out with miscreants, then sure. But this is a working Thai woman trying to handle a desperate situation. What she needs is assistance, not incarceration.
  3. I live like I am going to die tomorrow. Unfortunately, that is working out to be a disaster.
  4. Or, 3. The VPS running the platform is seriously humping to rebuild the site's metadata and such, which takes cycles away from feeding pages.
  5. I'm a boomer. I love Songkran. The memories I have are priceless. This year my brother came for his first Songkran. It was fantastic! Still, three days is plenty of time.
  6. And everyone wonders why my backpack is so cylindrical and heavy...
  7. Blood donors are the "invisible" saints among us. It is difficult to imagine the modern medical establishment without them.
  8. As I understand the OP, the "charge" is paid for by the recipients of the blood, not by the donors. As it should be. I would certainly not complain about 2,100 THB for life saving blood if I needed it.
  9. About 8 years ago, companies like mine were all notified that the Business Software Alliance was "on the prowl", and we were informed to review all company computers for pirated software, and that we could expect some sort of "inspection" by that organization at some point. How, and under what authority, these inspections were to be conducted was not explained. The inspection never happened, and I believed the notice was the entire "attempt" by the BSA. In other words, "these notices will cause some XX% of compliance for the least possible expense". It was a 6 month phenomenon, and never heard of again.
  10. Actually, in the AJ report (if I remember correctly), action was initiated to extradite the German back to Thailand to face the charges. Will have to see how that unfolds. But, if he is extradited, I doubt he will be getting a refund on the bribe.
  11. Food panda delivery people have always been very good for me. And 90% of them demonstrate genuine gratitude when tipped. And the cost? As @richard_smith237 says, "astonishing". My friends in the States cannot believe the price when I tell them.
  12. Hopefully the Thai banks are ready for the HK/Chinese hackers - they are not rookies.
  13. Just flew to Phnom Phen in October, spent the night, flew back into Suvarnabhumi. No request to see an onward ticket, no request to see 20K baht. Just stamped in "visa exempt" in under a minute. Prior to that, I had extended for 9 straight years based on my work permit. The IO's only question was "Why no re-entry stamp?" As @Chelseafan mentioned, unless you have been border hopping in an obvious attempt to stay long term without a long term visa or extension, they are unlikely to even ask about the onward flight. If they do, as @Keeps suggested, they are likely to accept an explanation for the onward flight being farther out than 30 days. You could even suggest you plan to take a train to another country and back, then "fly home" with the onward ticket. These IOs are typically trying to process 100's of people as fast as possible. Unless the passport "tells some story", they just want to get you through as fast as possible.
  14. And, I do believe, that is precisely where the term McMansion originated from. When I worked in Darien CT, my boss frequently pointed them out.
  15. When will they realize that "invisible" is the best quality for a police officer.
  16. Nine years I did the same with my US taxes. But you do not deduct the income taxed. You compute the taxes owed on the income, then subtract taxes paid here.
  17. Leverage. A powerful tool that must be handled with the greatest of care.
  18. I have been in Thailand for 13 years. and never once have I been asked for a blue (or yellow) book. No bank has ever asked for anything more than my passport. With one exception. When I created a new account for my social security deposits from the US, Bangkok Bank wanted more than just my passport. I needed to also show them my birth certificate and my US social security card. I believe this was a special case because of the US government making direct deposits into the account. Regardless, I did not need a blue book.
  19. 13 years of extensions: marriage (1yr), retirement (2y), work permit (9yr), and now back to retirement this year. All done a Chaeng Watthana. Simple, efficient, never once an attitude or mistreatment. Never felt unwanted. But, several times over the years, I have noticed periods of increased "scrutiny".
  20. Of course, there are moving companies in Thailand. Storage as well. But, as you might imagine, they are very "local" businesses, so it depends on where you are. Here in Bangkok, I have been very happy with a moving company named "Good Move": https://www.goodmove-th.com/ They have moved me three times, each time a townhouse full of stuff. A little more expensive, but very professional. Never needed storage, but considered it once and found many storage places online. Again, in Bangkok.
