  1. And, after this stimulation, the economy will still be in a shambles, but with raging inflation. Good times!
  2. In a three story townhouse with a drain pipe from the third floor to the ground floor that had no access, the maintenance guy had a "snake" that was able to run down the drain pipe and clean it out completely. It was excellent.
  3. I believe the word "masterminds" in this context is only "relative" to those doing the arresting...
  4. Absolutely my experience. Thais in Isaan, for the most part, speak Thai just fine. They will often slip into the local dialect with friends and family, but they will speak Thai with you just fine. And could make for a fun time learning, as you will be exposed to both, as well as the wonders of Isaan (donning flame retardant undies...)
  5. No expert on the Kroner, but it looks like the same problem seen in other currencies - central banks and monetary policy. https://corporate.nordea.com/article/80791/nok-update-nok-will-remain-weak-for-now
  6. Please, do not. One thing I have learned in all those years of Wall Street is to listen. Because the best ideas come from the most unlikely places - and people. While many "quants" these days are PhD level mathematicians, there is so much about investing and speculating that cannot be summed up with math.
  7. Been working on WallStreet for over 30 years. Building real-time trading systems that leverage risk-arb and statistical anomalies.
  8. Came to meet a girl (in 2001), but fell in love with the country. I stay because I really like Thai people. As well as the food, the weather, the girls, the low cost of living, and the entertaining news.
  9. Investing is a long path that requires little time each week - maybe a few hours. Investing does not produce "a fortune" until a couple decades have passed and compounding performs its magic. Speculating, on the other hand, requires a full time commitment in order to produce "a fortune" in less than a decade. Many investment advisors are investing their own money for the long run. They are not speculators. While I agree that a large number of investment advisors are subpar, there are good ones who are worth their price.
  10. In my experience, his welcome will have so much more to do with his personality and how he treats other people, than it will with him having a boyfriend.
  11. First thing that popped into my mind is that she possibly fell out the back of a pickup. My condolences to her family.
  12. I like the new "badge". But I miss seeing the "reputation" number above the post number.
  13. Another option is to exit Thailand, and re-enter on a visa exempt (if you quality for that), then convert to a Non-O visa after you re-enter but well before the visa exempt expires. This is what I just did last month. Now waiting to apply for a retirement extension based on the Non-O.
  14. Hmm. When I first moved to Thailand 13 years ago, I opened a Thai bank account with 20,000THB. Never touched it and never added more and never had a problem for 4 years. Until I got a work permit and everything changed.
  15. I solved this with Skype. I have their international calling plan, so unlimited free calls to and from the US. I also purchased a US phone number that is hooked up to Skype. Calls to my US number ring Skype. And the SMS messages with OTP sent by Capital One appear in Skype. It has proven to be very useful.
  16. I use wire transfers, from Capital One and from my little credit union in Ann Arbor MI. Both can be done online easily, fees are reasonable, and the spreads are acceptable. I gave up on IACH after several banks indicated they will not support it until forced by regulation.
  17. Bought my gf a karaoke microphone with built-in speaker. Loves it. Uses it almost every day.
  18. What if I have $1M in my US bank account, and ATM access to that money, and CC's with limits totaling over $100K USD? Do I still need that much money in a Thai bank account?
  19. It is not just "Farang" that get taken advantage of by Thai women here. Although, I believe we do tend to be more gullible.
