Yeah until the day comes that they get scammed by a local and get a reality check.
For sure 100%
That's when they wake up and smell the coffee and I was that soldier, twice, many years ago!
I lend money to nobody anymore, Thai or expat.

There was a mob assembled on Sunday morning calling for his deportation.
Due process for visa cancellation or deportation must be followed, or we are all at risk.
BTW I am a permanent resident that will become a naturalised Thai citizen next year.
I am not a permanent resident, I hold no interest in becoming one and neither am I the slightest bit interested in becoming a Thai citizen. I think the country's laws are a basket case. I wouldn't want one if they were free.
I much prefer the safety of a UK passport.
However, I certainly agree with you regarding mob rule, and visa cancellations without due process, it all sets a dangerous precedent.

I used to call it 'I'm a better expat than thou' syndrome.
They don't understand that we are all fair game and equally worthless in the eyes of the Thais.
It goes straight over the heads of many here who indeed think they are a higher quality expat, living in their bubble!

He has unwittingly and through stupidity opened a can of worms. The cops have smelt the money and an opportunity.
I doubt he will get thrown out, there will be massive backhanders to all and sundry, and he'll have to give her compensation and obligatory flowers and a basket of fruit and brand items.
In the meantime, it gives the Police a golden opportunity for a shakedown of all ex-pats and foreigners.
He will not be popular with developers who have now attracted unwelcome attention. The female doctor will get her cut and fade into oblivion.
One winner here guys, so be careful what you wish for when you band about hysterical comments about blacklisting and deportation.
This will affect borderline guys and those swept up in the cleanup, those on slight overstay etc
The real criminals will pay and on goes the gravy train.

They won't be deported, they will just pay and top up the Police coffers. The Swiss has presented an opportunity to the Police and now they are seizing it with both hands.

I've been here a long time now and built our houses here over 20 years ago now when I still had businesses in the sin city.
It can be repetitive and boring, but where isn't it?
it is laid back back, I had my British family here last year for three days before a SE tour, and they were certainly not bored.
We do have the rocket festival, and of course, the dinosaur museum and park but also we are not far from Roi Et, about 1-hour drive, and only 50 minutes to Roi Et airport from my house, Roi Et can be a good overnight trip.
We are a couple of hours from Khonkaen where I get all my important medical needs attended to and it's also a massive university city.
We are one hour from Mukdahan, the Mekong River and the Savannakhet crossing to Laos, it's also quite an interesting place in its own right, with a Vietnamese influence and temples.
In my district, we have quite a few pubs, live entertainment, a disco with live music and ' Lao ladies '.
We have a large lake in the town centre for exercise and in the centre a further exercise area with exercise machines and an aerobics centre.
We have a large hotel where you can just buy a drink and use the swimming pool if you wish.
A fancy Korean restaurant has just opened in the town. We have Lotus, Global, Home Pro, SCB, Krung Thai, and Kasikorn banks, all on our doorstep.
Less than a mile from my house is the local hospital, which isn't bad at all, I had a colonoscopy done there including a private room overnight and all procedures for less than 10,000 baht.
So, all in all, it suits me fine and dandy. If I want major excitement, I fly from Roi Et to Don Muang and from there to Vietnam, Cambodia or wherever.

Apparently alot of his donations came from overseas for his so-called 'sanctuary '.
Many years ago a German was doing this in Pattaya, the only problem was all the donations to his various wildlife and animal charities got syphoned and spent on his then property empire and a large number of power boats and speedboats in Pattaya.
He had a massive restaurant with a built-in microbrewery and a Thai Army oompah band, he was well in with various Army generals and eventually got deported in a big stink which hit the Thai parliament, as his wife went there screaming about all those they had taken backhanders and received envelopes.
He ended up getting jailed and was deported, I remember that much.
I believe his name was Wolfgang.

Unfortunately some on this board are either unwilling or unable to see the grayzone in between their black and white way looking at issues.
It's either "deport, blacklist for life, jail this thug, cretin, criminal, bully etc. without reservation. Local media report present nothing less than the gospel truth.
Putting things in perspective, raising legitimate questions as to the accuracy of all the statements and pointing to the disproportionality between the actual crime committed and the subsequent mediastorm and (fake?) outrage by local residents is interpreted by these members as taking the side of the Swiss.
Thank you,
You have put the point across well.

Agree to all of the 'some of us'.
Even after doing ALL THAT, you cannot justify kicking a stranger in anyway - no, nothing can justify that.
How many millions of Baht should a 'foreigner' dump to be eligible to kick every one around?
Plenty of Thais living in the UK, EU, USA - how do you think it will be if they start kicking strangers in the UK, EU, USA? Would they be given a medal or some special status?
I never said for one minute he was justified nor that he shouldn't be punished, he should.

And also the usual suspects automatically siding with the foreigner and dismissing the Thai side of things. Many of us on here don't agree with his behaviour but there are rational ways of dealing with it.
Way too many on here screaming for blood and deport him, blacklist him.
Newsflash.........they carry no power whatsoever to enforce such actions, such they can keep their jackboots under their computer desks!

Jeeese... for some here in, Thai's seem to be monsters!
Terrible life style to live... where you hate the natives of the country YOU chose in preference to YOUR home country.
Some of us choose not to walk around pretending we have gone native.
We don't swallow the old chestnut that all Thais are wonderful and we should be so grateful to stay in this amazing place where all is well, and those nasty foreigners commit all the sins and should be deported for blowing their nose.
Some of us have contributed plenty over many years and don't feel the need to broadcast all we have done to assist in various ways, quietly.
Some of us look at the reality of where we are and not the rose-coloured glasses impression, others would like us to have.
Thailand is not unique in allowing foreigners to reside here who obey the law, and fulfil their retirement visa extension criteria. Many countries allow it.
Plenty of Thais living in the UK, EU, USA and other places where the natives are not screaming ' Deport and blacklist him ' for the slightest infraction a Thai makes in our countries.
As it happens a great deal of this bleating, screaming the hysterical old cliche of ' Deport and Blacklist him 'eyebrow-raising and tut-tutting seems to come from the usual suspects on this board.

It has to do with the way the bloodthirsty Thais are vilifying foreigners for this one guy, banning him, deporting him, blacklisting him.
Let's tar and feather him, eh?
I wish they made as much fuss about important issues, such as the stolen election, but no, that's above their thinking power.
I am saying they need to look at how many of them behave when they are abroad, you would think the way they carry on it was a nation of Snow White virgins.

Just talking about Thais behaviour abroad, last week at Southwark crown court a 42-year-old Thai woman was jailed for 4.5 years for selling and distributing meth and other drugs. She and her Thai friends were also involved in prostitution and money lending.
Her excuse?
She came from a broken family in Thailand, was sold into debt bondage and was doing this only so that she didn't have to prostitute herself.
So, let's make no mistake here with all the pathetic ' Thai outrage ' (I have witnessed plenty of Thai women prostituting themselves in the UK), about the behaviour of PLENTY of Thais abroad.
Taiwan, Korea, EU, and many more, not only the UK, are tightening up on Thais being granted visas of all types, because of how many behave in foreign countries, be it through drugs trade, prostitution, working illegally, etc

What a load of absolutely blown out-of-proportion garbage.
Could anybody imagine in any other country where the Prime Minister has to make a statement about such trivial nonsense?

Far less dangerous and more joyous than they used to be is my experience, still I've only been about 1200 in 25 years. You are far more likely to see trouble at a football match in the UK, some northern 'fans' even boo their own national anthem, racially abuse black players or only go for a punch up outside. There are hundreds of music concerts all over the country every night, one shooting and the scaremongering starts. 😔
You are talking apples and oranges comparing British football matches to Morlam concerts.
Your comments about fans booing the national anthem, you get clowns in any stadium where you can have around 60,000 paying fans. Football in the UK is far safer now than it was in the eighties and nineties.
Racism? Many countries experience racism, and Thailand openly does it, referring to Black people as Negroes, even in their language.!
I am in North East Thailand and I have been here for more than 25 years as well, I've been to plenty as well, though not these days, as they now bore me and I stand by my previous statement, they have become unruly affairs.
I have seen and experienced many times ridiculous and needless fighting, chairs being thrown and the plug being pulled on events until the violence has been brought under control. Usually, as a result of rival gangs meeting up from different villages.
In Bangkok, if you want to talk about unwarranted violence, what about the gun violence between schoolboys, just for going to a different school in a different district?
Lastly, my comments were not specifically aimed at Morlam concerts, although I still stand by my comments.
I was referring to the ease of access people in Thailand have to dangerous weapons, especially firearms, which they shouldn't have

These "morlam" events are full of trouble due to brainless drunkards. Extra protection is needed. It's ages that I came near such event.
One was in our village at the school yard. Guys with pump guns taking care for security.
The other one was a "superstar" event with huge crowds.
Military police taking care.
These events have turned into meet-ups where gangs of jobless youngsters with too much time on their hands, all from local villages turn out to settle scores, get drunk, and cause trouble in general.
Very little about the Morlam events interest these youngsters, except for the above reasons.
My other half doesn't bother anymore and also says the music isn't anywhere near like it used to be.
These are no longer joyous occasions and haven't been for a long time.

There seems to be too much mimicking of the USA these days in Thailand how these shootings at concerts and shopping malls are taking place with increased frequency.
The similarity between these two countries is the relative ease with which youngsters are getting hold of very dangerous weapons.

She won't be going skint anytime soon on the back of this.
The hyperbole alone on her Michelin one-star for a street food place assures that.
Anybody who thinks that Pad Kapao and a crab omelette deserve 1500 baht wants their head testing,
Similarly, I need mine testing for buying her noodles the other day in Lotus.
Yep, she's now flogging dried noodles nationwide at about 50 baht a pop. I think normal Tom Yam noodles are around 7 or 8 baht a bag, aren't they?
They weren't worth the price difference, with or without a Michelin star.
