British Airways spreads its wings: Gatwick-Bangkok flights back on
Gatwick and BA are a perfect match ...... Gatwick is a dump , BA are a disgrace who in my mind should be forced to change its name ..... Owned by a Spanish company , it is far from British . They have been woefully slow to reengage with the East after Covid and in my mind are best avoided

Places to EAT around Chiang Mai - reviews and discussion
what absolute rubbish you are talking ...... I wouldn't mind being a £ behind them ,.... and their food is very good and the cooks excellent . there is no Buffet option to my knowledge, though I only eat there daytimes , in case you had not noticed a lot of Thai food is served cold having been batch cooked for the day .... perhaps you are more over priced gourmet burger and fries sort of person ?

The Best of Chatuchak Market?
Chatuchak is one of the great markets of the world , on a par with Camden , Bac Ha .... and the now defunked Panjaiyuan . 40 something years ago I used to buy old textiles from Lao and Isan ladies who sold out of gunny bags just spread on the floor .... these days the antiques offering is pretty limited , with more and more imported goods offered for sale .... but most weeks I walk past a fabulous and enormous wooden lao buddha that I really covert . Its somewhere between 120000 and 160000 depending on the mood of the vendor ! Section 25 has some interesting shops offering tribal baskets and silver , and I recently bought a good Nishapur bowl from an Afghan trader ..... the art market in section 7 is well worth a look if your are furnishing , it has a nice vibe and a clean well maintained loo , close to the Mixt entrance . Mrs C has a few units there selling to visitors , resort operators , designers and ex pats furnishing apartments . Bang Sue junction is stuffed with vintage clobber and several Antiques dealers who have scarpered from River City ..... but the best thing about Chatuchak for me is the people .... the fashion conscious Thai's , the extrovert stall holders , the scruffy tourists , the Khmer guys running ice around the market to the food vendors ....... a real melting pot .. I love it ...

Bringing dog to Thailand for 3-6 months
that's and big dog ....... is it fit or fat ? if overweight even during rainy season it is likely to struggle with the heat and humidity ..... I have just brought my fit 33 lb Lab over from the Uk permanently . ..... I can tell you that he has taken best part of 3 months to acclimatise , and was pretty sick during the first month getting used to new local bacteria .... the people who handled his crating and delivery on the same flight as myself were both excellent at Heathrow and BKK .and I would highly recommend them . there's a fair bit of paperwork and all vaccines inc rabies need to be up to date and at least 21 days old . but to be frank , if you are not staying here permanantly I would not recommend this to you for the sake of your dog ...... and have you thought about quarantine going back the other way ?

Are they blind?
Similar ghastly make over going on in Talat Noi ........ added to the wholesale destruction of old "shophouses " ,is rapidly turning these two areas with great cultural and architectural significance into another bland MALL scape ... The government seem set on recreating another Singapore , and what a dull place that is ! The Bangkok riverside of Lord Jim has all but disappeared , and not for the better in my book .

Make take on the new tax laws and panic
slightly off topic ..... but . in the early 80's in the days of paper pushing and Don Mueang ,if you stayed here for more that 180 days you had to do something called " Tax Clearance ". I did it a couple of times .... but have no great recollection of it .... I used to life around Khao San road those days and I think went to an office in Ratchadamneron Klang to get a paper stamped ( possibly in the passport I just don't remember). But I am sure that people got turned away at the airport who had not got their paperwork in order ..... Anyone else remember that stuff ? I mention it because I could see people trying to exit, being stopped if they didn't have proof of having made a tax return ....
