  1. Filipinos speak English, Spanish and Tagalog, So I find it hard to believe that the old man had an issue with communication, I think it was just another typical Thai taxi driver who can only speak an embarrassing version of Thailish.

Yeah, you could count on one hand the number of Bangkok taxi driver who can't speak Spanish and Tagalog.

    you forgot and English!

Why should they speak English, do NY, London, Paris, Sydney, Moscow, drivers speak Thai?

Sure it is great if they do have some understanding of English, or Swahili or Tibetan if that's your only spoken language - but you as a tourist chose to travel Thailand, learn to live with it.

But a very low act dumping him the way he did, could have dumped him somewhere convenient, ie shop, garage, bus station.

English IS de facto the "language of the world" (thai is not). "Everyone" use it all the time when two parties who otherwise can't communicate with each other. It even happens with very closely related languages such as norwegian and swedish, in my previous work we used english in the meetings (norwegian and swedish businesses) as some norwegian words are not easy to decipher as a swede and vice versa.

And Thailand is a tourist country, even bigger reason to know basic english.

  2. <snip>

The UK is going broke while bragging about its socialism. The UK's debt is now about the same as that of the US as a percentage of GDP and it's climbing fast. The UK will be broke in fewer than ten years and then who will pay for the NHS?

    <snip>

    Cheers.

The claims you make are incorrect on every point raised. Ten year economic forecast for UK.

Back on topic for preferred US President...

A "forecast"... in economy... allow me to laugh.

  3. A big problem Americans have is their crazy low to allow people to have/carry guns, witch cause an extreme amount of killings and accidents. Also police brutality who easy like to use a weapon ..

I don't think Trump is gone solve that problem...

Also the interference in other countries politics ... They should never intrude Afghanistan, Iraq Libya Syria ... maybe then we wouldn't have had the problem with muslims or refugees in europe ..

You don't know what you are talking about.

  4. i love Thailand the way it is.

no enforcement of traffics law is one of the reasons I came here.

I hope the Thai people continue to resist these outside calls for change to the last breath.

take your nanny state radar guns, traffic cameras and police helicopters and SWAT teams and go back to the UK or USA or whatever total police state you come from.

So you rather defend a true police/military state than something that actually save lives?

Also i'm not so sure as to how SWAT teams come into play about traffic safety.

  5. There are like 90 different genders (stupid shiet like "flowergender")... that is if you actually want to believe the people who should be in soft rooms without corners. I just read an article that in Sweden they now have introduced "hen" toilets (newly invented for for the "third" gender, "han" is for male and "hon" is for female) at an university but not even that was good enough for the "should be on strong medication" people as the toilet didn't have any regards for the "non binary" genders.

    "Non binary" eh? What next?

  6. You need to find out the reason dont just cry racists.

Nope. They have made a decision based upon racist generalisations. If the renter doesn't like certain behaviours, fine. However to judge a whole nation to represent that behaviour is racist.

So if that behaviour, as you said, is cooking with spices that make the condo smell like shiet it's ok but not if the person happens to be from a country you feel you should in some way defend. Because you are only ranting and raving as it's about indians, you wouldn't have said a word if it said "no british".

  7. Here is what I think is the only, albeit tiny, chance, for the republicans to stop Trump from defecating all over their party (and being nominated).

Cruz stays in and siphons off fundamentalist far right wing fanatics from Trump. Cruz has no chance, don't worry about that creepy WEIRDO.

Of course sleepy man Carson is just one big joke. He should stay in too.

Rubio loses in Florida, effectively dooming his dim chance.

Kasich goes on North and wins Ohio and Michigan.

Then Kasich and Rubio have a pow wow, Rubio drops out and agrees to be Kasich's running mate if Trump can be stopped. Kasich runs as the savior of the party, managing to never dirty himself with the idiotic schoolyard fighting, and Rubio stays on as the VP pick apparent to be the fighting monkey ... shouting TRUMP IS A CON MAN, TRUMP IS A FASCIST 24/7.

If all that happened, I think Trump can be stopped from the nomination.

Will it? Not bloody likely, but that's the only path I see.

Of course, personally, I have no problem with Trump being nominated and losing in the general. But I think that would be a disaster for the nation for Trump to actually be president. Kasich or Rubio would be less bad. If Trump is nominated, even though arguably that's who the democrats want to run against (rather than Rubio) yes he really COULD win.

I see no real path for Cruz or Carson so no comment on them as presidents. I know most have already written off Kasich and logically that makes sense, but I still see him as the ONLY slim chance of blocking Trump's nomination now. It's probably too late.

An interesting hypothetical; one I hadn't considered. Kasich is the ONLY marginally sane voice remaining on the clown bus, but he's still way too far to the right, IMHO. The man is determined to cut Social Security and Medicare. Your analysis is something the GOP establishment, who are desperately trying to find SOMETHING to stop Trump, ought to consider. Just read this morning where Mitch McConnell came out and said that the Republicans would go all out to help the Democrat get elected if Trump gets the nomination, knowing that Trump would likely have a huge negative impact on close down ticket Republican races (http://dailycaller.com/2016/02/27/mcconnell-tells-gop-senators-well-drop-trump-like-a-hot-rock/). Quite interesting when they start cannibalizing their own. But it does go to show how terrified the Republican establishment is of Trump, knowing what he is doing to the party.

What Trump "is doing to the party" is giving it much needed new blood and vigour. Surely a presidential candidate who can alone get more votes in a caucas than last caucas entire voting number is a candidate that is very important to the party.

People just don't seem the get that Trump isn't running "as a republican", he is running as an american and he is saying most of the things the voters are thinking in their sofas.

  8. If you want to cook cheap, cook Thai.

If you want to cook healthy, maybe at least try a few vegetables in your recipes. Most of your dishes sound like a vitamin-free zone.

There is no point cooking Thai because I can get it outside cheaper and better then I can do it

I do eat a fair bit of fruit most days I get my 5 a day , I think I will replace bread with salad for now on

    There is vit c in

    Vegetable and chicken casserole

The green beans in the Jamaican style rice and peas

    Banana in the oats

Tuna and sweetcorn and baked potato

I think I will add some green beans to the rice and sardines for now on

Most fruits have either about the same amount of sugars or more sugar compared to the same amount of Coca cola (per 100 gram). Sure, more vitamins than coke (none) but still hardly a "healthy" thing to eat 5 times a day.

"I'm not saying that Thailand is unique for this as crap like this has already been introduced in european countries."
Which European countries have introduced this "c*ap" ?
Let us hope you have taught (not thought) the children a richer vocabulary than you seem capable of using.
Have you also taught the children not to start sentences with conjunctions and the importance of appropriate Capitalisation ?
Did you also teach the children to read/write Thai ?
    NB
What are "kinder gardens" ? Clearly I am in need of some of your "edukashon" smile.png

Who put sand in your vagina?

If you are going to go full retard about my spelling maybe you should first make sure to know that you do not end a sentence with a SPACE between the last letter and question mark (nor period etc).

Hurry now to the nearest toilet and clean your vagina of that sand.

What a disgustingly objectionable person you seem to be.

Get caught and therefore lash out with obscenity?

Is that how you teach your children to behave ?

Lets hope you are kept well away from other peoples children.

By the way ----- Do you mean a "full stop" when talking about a 'period' or are you an edentulous Red Neck living in trailer ? smile.png

Awwww, did my reply give you more sand?

It's quite pathetic to involve someones children into a discussion. Be a good 150 kg shemale now and continue to be the keyboard hero warrior of TV :)

And it's quiet amazing that you still can't end a sentence without a [space] between the last letter and question mark.

  10. Whatever the situation may or may not be in Sweden; this topic is about the UK!

Immigrants to the UK, whether from the EEA or outside it, taken as a whole do pay more in taxes etc. than they take in state benefits and services.

What have the immigrants ever done for us?

What kind of employment rate does middle eastern, south east asians, north africans, central africans, carribeans, indians, pakistanis, chinese etc etc etc have in the UK compared to indigenous british people? I'm asking because surely it should be quiet known that in general some immigrants are just better for a country compared to other immigrants.

An immigrant != an immigrant just as a car != a lorry just because both have wheels.

I see where you're going with this; it seems that you believe British citizens should only be allowed to marry people you consider to be good for the country; and that you base that qualification mainly on race.

As said earlier, you must have missed it, regardless of where a non EEA immigrant is from, their British partner has to meet the financial requirement.

Furthermore, the immigrant partner is barred from access to public funds and their British partner is barred from claiming any extra due to their immigrant partner living with them.

    It seems tha

I asked you what the employment rate is compared to ethnic british people... how did you register that as me saying anything about marriage? So, do you know the employment rates or not? It's not the end of the world if you do not know and admit it.

  13. Naturally people on this forum are thinking along the lines of white man, Thai bride.

Of course the majority of spousal applications are from South Asia followed by sub-Saharan Africa.

There is a large industry of arranged marriages in which settlement in the UK can be sold through a network of brokers. This income hurdle provides the very minimum of protection for the British taxpayer.

Even though the facts show that the vast majority of immigrants are actually net beneficiaries TO the state rather than of it. In other words, that they overall pay in far MORE in taxes and VAT etc TO the state than they take out in benefits. In which case the 'British taxpayer' does not need 'protection'.

Are you really saying that immigrants in UK are aliens compared to immigrants to Sweden? Because immigrants in Sweden has been a deficit since 1980's and the deficit has been around 2% of GDP and in that was not calculated shitton of benefits like social benefits (unemployed yadda yadda), child benefits and housing benefits. All this can be read in a report the swedish government ordered in 2009 and quickly buried (never mentioned it). Lets also not forget that after 10 years in Sweden barely half of immigrants work.

In Sweden the "working rate" has to be about 85-86% for the welfare state to "go around". I have a hard time believing that the rate would be much different in the UK with it's benefits, NHS etc.

  14. I suggest that if the OP wants to really understand if foreigners in Thailand hold grossly generalized negative views of Thailand and Thai people, he starts by disguarding his own grossly generalized and negative views of foreigners in Thailand.

An individual foreigner (and we are all individuals) complains bitterly about the state of Tai schooling because i. He's a Thailand/Thai basher or ii. Because his own children are pupils at a Thai school and he actually is genuinely concerned about the matter, perhaps very concerned about a real incident or problem he faces.

Who is to know without knowing the individual?

Perhaps more important, who has the right to deny him his opinion and his voice? - if not here on TVF where can he express, share and discuss his concerns?

The OP has a choice, if you don't like what you read, don't read it.

Many expats in Thailand do not have a choice, they have family here, moving may not be an answer, their concerns real and TVF one of a very few places they can discuss their concerns.

Against that the OP's sensitivity to other people's negative opinions is a minor issue, and one for which the remidy is completely within his own control.

"Because his own children are pupils at a Thai school and he actually is genuinely concerned about the matter,"

If he is "concerned" he could home school his children or pay for them to attend one of the high achieving International Schools.

Not being able or unable to afford to do either is no excuse for Thai bashing.

Stop kidding yourself by telling yourself that a school that is 10-100 times more expensive than government school would be any better.

In my experience and those of my friends who have had families ( more than one in some cases), it can be like night and day. Government schools are on the whole lousy and as you have rightly pointed out in another thread homeschooling is an option to supplement a government school and is a sensible alternative.

The old adage you get what you pay for is as true for education as it is for medical services, housing etc..

    Don't kid yourself otherwise.

I put my children in the so called "best private school" in Ubon but it was still shiet, not much better than government school so i had to sit and teach with my children after school and weekends so they wouldn't fall behind (we do not live in Thailand anymore). Schools in Thailand aren't much more than kinder gardens, even for 12-15 year old students. Issue is that children aren't thought to think critically, they are thought to obey and learn by rote. I'm not saying that Thailand is unique for this as crap like this has already been introduced in european countries. And class sizes of 40-50 students does not do any good for anyone.

But yes, generally it is as such that prize of X dictates if X is good/bad but it's not rock solid.

  15. I have a Gf who became a Christian in High School and hasnt been back to Church since. Fine with me. My last wife of way to long was a nutter for Buddha and all the phony fanfare. I hope to never ever have anymore houses , cars or businesses blessed. Or fortunes told. .........

Not sure there is a point to going to church as the non-existant "God" seem to care so much about you, yes YOU. Only the Milky way alone have like 200 billion stars (not counting planets) and Milky way is a infinitely puny galaxy in the universe.... but remember... "God" monitors your masturbation.

  16. To go back to the OP - No. Thaivisa is not even close to being an accurate reflection of expats in Thailand. The expats I actually know in real life are by and large a happy, broadminded bunch, most of whom have little or no interest in this forum at all.

I think there are a couple of factors at play here. Many find the relentless negativity, bigoted opinions and focus on the sex trade off-putting. Also, forums as a whole are a rather old-fashioned thing these days, so tend to attract an older demographic - younger expats are generally using other forms of social media instead. For a different view of expat life in Thailand, check out some of the facebook groups, or twitter hashtags like #thailand or #bangkok.

Err... what? Of course this forum is a reflection of so called "expats" either living or have lived in Thailand.

  17. Thailand is NOT farangland, it is a big learning curve to deal with, took me years and still have probs with stuff..

A farang that comes here must be able to adjust, sort of block out farangland stuff to a degree...

Many cannot do this cos their nose is so much up their farang _____......Met a few...

The people I find most difficult to gel with are the ones who have come from (as you put it) Farangland.

I was born overseas and have lived my whole life in Asia, so I feel Asian and I think like an Asian (in many ways).

I am (and I'll freely admit it) a life-long privileged expat, so I think *very* differently and have a very different viewpoint to a Brit who was born in the UK and lived there until he retired to Asia.

If you are of European descent then who are you trying to kid, yourself or us?

There is no such thing as a privileged expat. You may think very differently and have different viewpoints to a Brit who was born in the UK, but you are still considered the same as all the rest of us by the Thais. The only thing that places us in different categories is the amount of money we carry in our wallets and have in the bank, unless you somehow managed to grab a Thai citizenship and even then you`re still always be a foreigner here.

    Amen.
