  1. From Yesterday

"Transmission remains intense in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone" and the frequency of new cases is still increasing in Sierra Leone, the WHO said in its situation report.

I think this is a very premature response to a WHO report that is contrived to play down figures to stem public panic.

Transmission rates are still high in Liberia. But transmissions rates are not 'exponentially' increasing (allegedly).

Stop your 'state of emergency' and allow full freedom of movement once again..... that will be good for the situation..... not.

Since the first reported case of this outbreak, the infection rates have gone up and down several times, and each time there is a lull in the rate of transmissions, it is soon followed by a much bigger spike.

Lot's of the world's leading virologists are expecting it to jump up once again.

  2. Many of the targeted ex-senators had been elected from the provinces and some of them are now members of the NLA or the National Reform Council, including Direk Thuengfang.

Hmmmm..... I could be wrong here, but wouldn't there be a slight hint of conflict of interest here?

Sounds quite insane, of course we all know the NLA will 'buddy up' to protect their colleagues.

What the hell are Thaksinites doing on the NLA anyway?

I thought these committees were supposed to be made up of non partisan figures????

This place is a shambles and will head back to yet another coup over the coming few years. This will not heal the country, it will create divisions just as much as there was before.

  3. which showed a total loss of 682 billion baht with more than 70 percent of the loss incurred by the government of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

And all that over just 2.5 seasons as opposed to 30% across the other 7.5 seasons.

So losses were 10 times greater under Thaksin Yingluck.

In the west we would say 'you live and learn'..... but here?...... They won't learn from this.

  4. Keep the politicians well away from anything to do with the charter or reforms, as a matter of fact BAN them from even voicing an opinion or putting forward a critique.

Initiate a special (large) department within the NACC that watches all politicians like a hawk.

Remove their ability to even consider amending constitutional articles in the future. Have a special committee within the constitutional court for debating amendments.

Thai politicians are not to be trusted with anything to do with how their job should perform, they should stick to it by the letter or be hauled over the coals for any breech or failures.

Introduce the death penalty for wayward politicians.

  5. If a big Army General has a house in the national reserve, what would happen?

    1. A court trial and jail.

    2. Ask him politely to remove & forget it.

    3. Pretend it did not happen.

    Answer: 3

Also what happens if a certain DSI chief is already under investigation for the exact same crimes?

    1. A court trial and jail.

    2. Ask him politely to remove & forget it.

    3. Allow him to open investigations to find others doing the same, hoping that it deflects from himself.

  6. Bt682 bn lost to rice scheme

Spending on rice-pledging programmes over 10 years totals Bt1.1 trillion, says Finance Ministry

BANGKOK: -- Rice-pledging programmes have recorded an accumulated loss of Bt682 billion over the past decade, against total spending of as much as Bt1.1 trillion, the Finance Ministry disclosed yesterday.

The figures cover the period from 2004 to 2014 and 15 subsidy schemes.

The state has secured only Bt374 billion in revenue from rice sales, leaving the country with a combined loss of Bt682 billion, according to an initial report of a post-audit for the subsidy schemes. Of the total, about 76 per cent or Bt518 billion in losses were accumulated during the Yingluck Shinawatra administration from 2011-14. The remaining loss of Bt164 billion was from the Thaksin Shinawatra government's subsidy schemes for 11 crops.

"The losses are within the expectations of the subcommittee. But we must concede that there were loopholes in the [subsidy] process, causing financial leaks and leading to problems with transparency," said Rungson Sriworasat, permanent secretary to the Finance Ministry.

He said the losses would be further reported to the Rice Policy Management, chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Rungson said the committee would consider issuing bonds to repay and reschedule the debts accumulated by the rice scheme.

Previously, Finance Minister Sommai Phasee had said the government was considering a debt-management plan, by issuing long-term bonds with tenors of five to 20 years. This was to reduce interest payments on the debt.

However, the losses exclude the results of the inspection of the quality of rice in the state's inventory, about 19.2 million tonnes worth about Bt225 billion. This is calculated based on the Commerce Ministry's selling average of Bt11,700 per tonne as of May 22.

The subcommittee for auditing of crop-subsidy projects will further finalise the losses of the schemes after September when the rice in the state's granaries is inspected for quality and quantity.

Yingluck likely to make statement to NLA

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra is likely to make her opening statement personally when the National Legislative Assembly convenes to determine whether she should be impeached, her lawyer Norrawit Larlaeng said yesterday.

Norrawit said Yingluck gave much importance to the impeachment case against her.

"She may appear in person on the day of the opening statement," he said. He added that Yingluck's legal team was not worried about the case, as it was taking the necessary steps.

The NLA is scheduled to convene on November 28 to decide the date for Yingluck's team to present its opening statement. This is expected to be no later than seven days after the assembly's first meeting over the impeachment case. The meeting was postponed on Wednesday after Yingluck's legal team claimed that it was not given sufficient time to prepare the case.

Norrawit and other members of the legal team went to Parliament yesterday to copy by hand more than 3,800 pages of documents regarding the case that were submitted to the NLA by the National Anti-Corruption Commission. The documents were labelled "confidential" and could not be photocopied.

What is the point of an article like this if they openly admit it doesn't include the current 18mn in storage.

Then beyond this, they claim the entire decade worth of sales only recouped 374bn?

The average sales prices are all over the place.

You just don't understand the economics. Or you are just so entrenched in pro-shin denial, your mind won't allow the facts through.

One thing is for sure, the PTP Finance Ministry would have continued to echo how successful and non-corrupt it was.

What a difference a coup makes.

  7. The WHO and the CDC have embraced a campaign of playing down the outbreak.

Those stats I was reading over 2 weeks ago. They even said that infection rates in Liberia were on the decrease, yet they report here that they are on the increase. They are constantly contradicting themselves. It isn't easy to lie to the public while using words that you can later say 'that's not what we meant'.

I have been following this outbreak for months and read all available new data on the crisis. I would say it is more accurate to say that the number of infections is well above 20,000 and the deaths well over 7,000.

They claim that infections rates are still rising, yet in the past 6 weeks only about 800 have died? ... sorry but that is not possible with a mortality rate of 71%. Infections rises from 8,000 in early October to 14,000 in mid November..... what is 71% of 6,000?

They also claimed that last week infections was receding and that ebola hospitals never had a single patient, here they are saying that they still don't have enough medical logistics in place.

This is all being played down to quell panic and public demand for banning people coming from west Africa in to the USA. Nothing more, nothing less.

I find it disturbing that an international agency is lying to the world.

  8. Yeah Yeah Yeah.....

China won't buy your stockpiles. They aint bloody stupid. They know you have new crop and that is what they will make you deliver.

You don't even have 2 million tonnes of good rice in your stockpiles.

Anyway..... there is a big difference from saying what you 'plan' to achieve and what will 'actually' happen.

Stop dreaming. You are struggling to send 1 million tonnes.

  9. Upgrading the IT structure isn't going to lure more passengers to your airline.

Try reviewing your pricing, that will have more of an effect. At the moment it is about 3 times more expensive than the budget carriers to fly TA.

Take a leaf out of the book of AirAsia or NokAir, you might just learn something about running a successful airline.

Having flown over 100 times in my life, I have only had one airline mess up my reservation and turned up at the airport with no booking, even though my money had been paid for weeks and had the confirmation email. That was the only time i ever flew Thai, and the last time.
