  1. Cheers for the relpies guys.

I'm pretty sure that she does not have a bad credit history, (or that she has not "been telling me the truth"???). She is only 23 years old (only about 13 when the crash came!) and we have been living together for about 4 years, in that time she has always been employed and has had a mobile phone contract which is always paid (on time, I think).

It's pretty weird that they turned her down. Perhaps it is something to do with her previous failed attempt?

perhaps AMEX would be an easier bet?

Thanks Samran, I'll look into it.

  2. Hi there,

My Thai girlfriend recently applied to get a Citibank credit card, however she discovered yesterday that her application was unsuccessful (they would not say why).

She has been in a stable job for the last 2 years earning 16k a month (she is a teacher's assistant). She also works part time for another company as a swimming teacher earning around 12k a month. So a total monthly income of around 28-30k a month. She has never had a credit card, so there shouldn't be any negative credit history.

I think she applied for a credit card with her bank (ThaiPanich) about 2 years ago and got declined, would this affect her recent effort?

Any suggestions on how she can obtain a credit card? She is going traveling around Europe in August and would like the security of having a credit card wioth her.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

  3. Tried the new Emporium branch yesterday after reading this thread.

It was pretty tasty, however I thought it was a little bit overpriced for the size of the meal. (I understand this is due to the high rental rates). On the whole I thought it was OK and a good alternative to the usual food court offerings.

  4. Last year i took my wife to the UK and we landed in Gatwick. No one told me i could take my wife through the UK passport holders queue until i got right to the front of the other queue, 3 hours later

Haha! Exactly the same thing happened to me! She was waiting for about 2 and a half hours, only when she was finally getting stamped in was it pointed out that she could go through the UK passport holders gate. How annoying.

  5. I am in the same situation (6 hour wait in Dubai). My bro lives there and told me about a place in the airport called "Marhaba". It is a lounge that you can pay to get in that has a range of facilities.

Neither me nor my brother has used it yet, but I am considering doing it on this trip. Here is some more info...

Regardless of airline or class of travel, you can relax in style and enjoy the unique Arabian hospitality of the 24-hour Marhaba Lounge.

With its unique design, the Marhaba Lounge showcases modern Arabic art and culture alongside modern facilities such as internet access and widescreen TVs. The lounge can be used by any traveller and is not exclusive to those using Marhaba Meet & Greet services. No pre-booking is required.

    Here is the website:

  6. Krabi (Koh Phi-Phi, Wat Tham Seua and surrounding rock formations, hot waterfall etc)

    Sukhothai Historical Park,

    Royal Palace, BKK,

    Erawan Waterfalls,

    Sail Rock & Chomporn Pinnacle,

    (Wat Arun)

    ???????

Mainly natural locations. Not too many beautiful historically important buildings or sites in Thailand...

  7. I believe Thailand is one of the most service oriented countries in the world. When shopping I'm usually followed by one or two sales girls eager to help.

I can't stand it when they do that.

  8. I always go to Toni & Guy in Siam Discovery. They do a very good job, the stylists are flown to London to get trained. Depending on which level of stylist you choose you can pay from 800 up to a few thousand, I pay a grand for a girl called "Lucky" and she is great.

  9. What has race got to do with it? My comments have nothing to do with race and I resent the slur. I'm talking about a morally corrupt dictatorial and callous regime which suppresses the political, civil, religious and human rights of its billion+ people.

There are no good people at the top of the Chinese leadership. There are, instead, career dictators and auto-didacts.

That is why i hope the regime falls in upon itself and why I abhor the hypocricy of the western world who get morally sanctimonious and imposes trade sanctions on relatively innocuous countries like Cuba, yet wet themselves when it comes to do business with this bunch of thugs.

Still, as Mao himself once said, 'Why let bad politics spoil good business," huh?

Great post. I wholeheartedly agree with your views.

  10. I live in Waterford Park, 500m away from Sukhumvit Plus (and a 10 minute walk/15-baht bike to Phra Khanong BTS)...noticed a posted ad for an apartment for sale here, 78sqm. It's not a very new development, but it's very nice and well maintained.

I know Waterford, I have a few friends who have lived there for years. It is a pretty good building and great value for money, infact I was very close to moving there myself.

However the OP specifically asked about somewhere safe and new/well kept. I don't think it really fits either of these criteria. For a start it is located a long way down a pretty sketchy soi (dark at night) furthermore IMHO the security guards are useless and on many of my evening visits to the condo they have been blatantly drunk or otherwise intoxicated.

They also had all those problems about a year ago with the management which lead to threats against residents and the management dumping rubbish in the communal areas if my memory serves me...
