  1. What do you guys think about this:

Food (mostly Thai + home cooking) 9,000

    Transportation 2,150

    Internet 2,500

    Rent 18,000

    Medical Insurance 3,500

    Electricity 3,500

Entertainment (beers/movies, no redlight stuff) 10,750

    Mobile phone 300

    Visa related 4,000

Spending budget (books, computer accessory etc.) 4,000

    Clothing 500

    Web Hosting 500

Vacation / getaways in TH (15K quarterly) 5,000

Maid (part time cleaner based on 500 Bht per day) 2,150

    Contingency ( = 10% of total above) 6,585

    Total THB 72,435

    USD $2,130

Pretty accurate for living reasonably in Bangkok I'd say.

  2. Anna's Garden (not far from Sukhumvit) is a garden restaurant with a bar in the back.

Ice Bar, pretty much opposite Anna's Garden is a newly opened bar with live music.

At the other end you've got a collection of bars near the klong. Jazz bar, Ashley's rumour etc.

Witches Tavern is an expat oriented bar about half way down the soi. Has live music, ladies night every Wednesday etc.

If you go down a small soi connecting Thong Lor to Ekamai (I think it's Soi 21) you will find a few small arty bars which are pretty popular mainly with young Thais.

Can't think of any more of the top of my head.

  3. Hello Phuketians,

I'm planning a trip to Phuket with my girlfriend's family later in the year. Her stepfather is a keen windsurfer, so I would like to test your combined knowledge to find out which is the best beach for windsurfing in respect of wind strength/direction and facilities.

Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

    Cheers krap.

  4. Sibeymai:

I am already a lifetime member of California. However I am interested in the cost of using the squash courts in Pathumwan Princess Hotel's Olympic Club. Do you know if it is possible to use these facilities on a pay per play basis.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. I have just been told by my girlfriend that there has been a bomb threat in The Emporium. Her friend was supposed to be teaching there this afternoon but apparently the class has been cancelled for this reason.

Is anyone able to verify this or provide more information?

  6. As JD said, "wang" means available, not free as in "free of charge"

To ask is something is free you can just use the word "free". Most Thais understand this.

  7. The food court at Central Chidlom 7th or 8th floor (can't remember).. Amazing pizza by the slice..

I think you are talking about the Italian restaurant in "Food Loft". You might also want to try their pasta dishes, lovely.

  8. Also different from all the small tremors I felt before it which were very short up-down things, IF I felt them at all. This was more prolonged and side-to-side. Weird woozy feeling, though nothing I don't experience just about every Friday night out.

Precisely, I have also been in a number of earthquakes, however this one was definately a very different sensation. Myself and others in my office first complained of feeling woozy and faint, didn't know what was goin on until we saw the blinds rattling against the windows.

  9. Not all of us Ash. You stayed just long enough to start this thread before running out screaming like a little girl. The rest of us stayed here laughing at you

Your only jealous of my selection of treats from the shop downstairs. :o
