October’s inflation growth slows for 2nd consecutive month
Kenny202 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What planet are they on or how do they measure it. Pork and chicken come down a bit but everything else relentlessly increasing, and mostly on products have the least reason to increase, apart from monopolies and they can -
That is par for the course. Tesco and Tops the masters. Oh the price tomorrow. What you also need to be careful of is the hand is quicker than the eye trick with 7 and Lotus cashiers. Counting out your money. Often shorted 100 baht particularly if cashing 1000

Im not sure about the road numbers but from Khon Kaen I go down through Burriram. Other way for me is via Korat. I hate belting along on motorways so going inland a much more pleasant and scenic choice for me. Dont think there is even any real time saving going down the motorway either. Once you are past Burriram area go through some beautiful national park and mountains. Very easy safe drive and seldom much traffic. Lots of places you can buy fruit on the way too. Done the trip at least 5 times and always enjoy it...and I hate driving lol

I dont know about Isaan men, I just dont think we have enough in common with them for anything other than a superficial nod of the head relationship...but have quite a few really good Thai mates in Bangkok...all University educated middle income type people. Met them through buying and selling musical gear...super honest to a fault I might say. Been camping and other outings with them and their families. Great down to earth guys, pretty much like us. Love a beer and a bbq and great sense of humour. All very intelligent and consciencious about everything they do. International travel does the world of good for a Thai, as it does for anyone for that matter

Poetic license lol, and yes you are indeed correct. I had a Chinese girl friend back home...her father very high up in the military in China. She was under the opinion (taught) that Vietnam had repeatedly attacked and invaded China over the last 2 centuries lol. I love Vietnam and its people. She used to refer to it as "that horrible little country you are so fond of"

One thing you may not have considered is you may not have the whole story if she is gambling. Things could be far worse than you know. Seen it repeated over and over again here, usually involving loan sharks. I know you are in Oz but do you have any property or assets in Thailand? Don't want to be negative or add to your woes but unfortunately they get themselves (and you) into financial difficulty all the time. My missus Aunty just died of brain cancer, husband working in Korea sending money back ten years for a nest egg when he gets back. Not only had that all long gone but she had taken out loans on the mother in laws farms, homes and a brother. Other person had been sending money back to what she thought pay off a 500k student loan. When the smoke cleared about 7 million baht blown to the winds

10000000% they do. Didn't you hear recently a country had 1200+ fake twitter accounts? And as as far as product reviews now, particularly for Chinese products can not believe any of them. The bogger companies and govts pump millions into this sort of stuff. And works both ways too having people doing negative reviews on competitors products

Had a bit of experience here with a Thai girl. Any reason for a Thai psychiatrist? They are very behind in their knowledge / treatment. We did eventually find a decent psychiatrist here and he told me there is huge problem here with not bi polar but borderline personality disorder. Abandonment, broken home. Abuse etc which is very common among the rural poor. Usually manifests itself in absolute selfishness, lack of consideration for consequences of actions and more often than not violent outbursts. He said treatment was difficult and often unsuccessful and best treated with drugs. Google it and see what you think. Otherwise if possible would think u would be much better off with an Aussie doctor. Good luck with it all

I think Ho Chi Minh summed it up when he refused assistance from China in the US war. He said better to sniff US shet for a few years than EAT Chinese shet forever

Just wondering if they have a Visa / set up / restrictions for Expats (Australian) to live in Laos? Is it easier or harder than Thailand? Do you need to do border runs or there is some sort of yearly visa. I am retired and 59yo. I usually cook for myself, don't need restaurants etc but I am guessing if you want any sort of conveniences / Farang food, supplies etc you would not want to be far away from Vientiane? Can you order from Lazada Thailand and have stuff sent across the border easily?

I had tiny little flies in my bathroom, looked all the world like little fruit flies. Only a few mm. Guys on here told me they were drain flies and to pour boiling water down the drain everyday for a week, kills the lavae. May be different in a condo tho. One way to check pull your shower drain insert / filter out and give it a tap, see of any tiny worms come out

Bit like small businesses, restaurants etc. If I could buy property here much better to be a landlord renting shop houses. Most new small businesses seem to go bust here within 3 - 6 months. Lack of capital, planning and any sort of business sense. Never seems to be a shortage of new comers stepping up to the plate though and any shop fronts in a good area rarely without tenants

How much do the average Thai person earn ?
Kenny202 replied to Baron Samedi's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That's right, usually after uni a qualified teacher can not go and work for the government. They need to sit a test first (even though they were govt educated and graduated) to qualify. This entails usually circa 200k up "tuition" fee to sit the test. Absolute disgrace. So the teacher could be a gem but of they can't stump up the money to pass the test they will work in a private / nursery school for 8-12k per month. The govt actually subsidizes the teachers employment but this is usually skimmed by the principal. How they account in these schools I will never know. It's like any money saved or rorted goes directly in the back pocket -

this pretty much spot on. 7/11 Tesco workers start on about 9k, lifted to 12k after 3 months. Factory workers 10-12k month + ot and bonuses. Teachers non govt school 10-15k. Govt school start around 23k and increase yearly. Nurses, police around 15-20k to start increasing yearly. General roadside restaurant / noodle cart 6000 - 15000 per month depending on area / quality / effort. Things got noticeably harder since Covid and doesnt seem to have recovered. My observations mainly North East area. Bangkok seems to be more but so is the cost of living. -
> Yyou have answered your own question so why post on here ??????!!!!!! Most people here are really nice and helpful. But, there's always one, who wants to make stupid, rude comments and make a nusance of themselves. Here here....you should see the Bangkok Classifieds on FB! Every single post someone trying to sell something at least 3 or 4 miserable tw@t's commenting the item looks like rubbish or price too high etc. How does a person get to that level of boredom / unhappiness where you have nothing better to do than gutlessly snipe at people from afar? I have never seen Thai's doing the same to each other

Problem with cleaning with air or vacuum is the gunk on the leading edge of the fan which will more than likely be sticky / greasy. This is whats causing the noise and poor performance. You really need to wipe it off probably with solvent or just replace the fan. Cheap as chips and usually easy to get to.

One of the first steps is taking her and usually the mother inlaw to child services for an interview and for them to vouch for you as a parent. The lawyer organizes all this once you get the ball rolling. Once shes done this its hard for her to back out and go back on her statement so the sooner u get it started and get her up for the interview the better. Hope it works out for you, best of luck

I have heard two sides of that story and not sure either is correct. My Thai friend told me it used to be accepted that the girls would go with the natural father so the new step father wouldn't have any interest in the young daughters. I dont think it is as simple as that anymore and more to do with the fitness / stabillity of each parent.

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but if you are not married you have zero parental rights unless you go through the courts and do the paternity thing. Not that hard to do, process about 3 months and u need a lawyer...but it is a lot simpler if she supports it. If not you may need to do DNA testing. Once you get your judgement papers are lodged at the Amphur. Your name on the birth certificate gives you no rights whatsoever. After you do all that then if she wont play ball you need to go back to court and fight for visitation...even then she may ignore it or do as she pleases. Maybe she is expecting financial support from you, which you may be able to leverage your rights with

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Mrs found a 2019 Samsung Tab A 8.0 for 2000 baht and women works basically around the corner from her. Like new in box. Very basic tablet but by all accounts perfect for what I need and the right size. Thanks again
