Good question - If she is 'officially' mentally destressed - has a Dr not signed off on this ? Unlikely, and its perhaps more known locally that she is a nut job. Did Mr A loan her the vehicle knowing she was drunk ? - will that void his insurnace. And.. She's going bonkers in the car - the car isn't sinking and she's getting agressive with a knife - why attempt the rescue at all... Just leave her there until she wants to come out on her own - there's no need to rush that one. Next - If she has a licence, revoke it - next time the batty nutter could kill an innocent victim (and make sure all those around here will be complicit in any further incident should they let her 'borrow' a vehicle' ).

My Pink Card was accepted by Thai Airways (no issues) - but I understand there is never a consistent from one year to the next or from one airline to another. Experience varies... I don't travel without my Passport due to the potential need to have it at hand (in the event I'm in another province and the Police want to see the passport etc).. But, my passport remains in my Bag, its easier to check-in with the Pink ID as its right there in my wallet - just easier to access. AND... the comment about the Pink ID only being accepted in the province of issue - thats technically true, yet that seems to matter little when its been accepted all over Thailand for checking in at Airports and use in hotels etc...

I know were talking about a US Visa... however, the British Embassy also does not have printing facilities etc... the VFS centre simply accepts our application (with photo copies of every page of the old passport), but we do not hand the passport over, we continue using it in country until the new passport is collected, at which point the old passport is clipped. It seems the US Passport Offices operate differently - which kind of leaves its overseas citizens vulnerable with regards to being able to produce ID if needed.
-
As per Khunjeff's response - it would appear that the US Embassies leave their citizens in the lurch by holding onto the replacement passport. (this in itself compromises Thailand regulations to be able to carry government issued ID at all times) Hopefully the renewal time with the US Embassies is significantly faster than the 4-7 weeks it takes the UK to renew a passport.
-
As I'm British - I can only answer that we are not left without our passport, the reason for this is that its regulation in Thailand that we (foreigners) are required to present Government Issued Photo ID upon request (from a Commissioned Police officer or an Immigration Officer) - and the Passport is uniformly accepted as this form of Government Issued Photo ID. Other US Passport Holders will surely be along here soon to respond to this. BUT... IF you are in doubt - it would be wise to call up your US Embassy and secure comfirmation. Additionally, are you applying for renewal in person, or remotely, via post or an agent (as this may have an impact on whether or not you keep your passport in your possession or not).

#1) 'Sometimes' a driving licence may be accepted for domestic flight travel (there are reports of posters doing this) - though experience with this varies (there is no certainty or definite yes / no answer) #2) A Pink ID card will be accepted for domestic travel (I've done this) - but if you don't have a Pink ID then its a hassle to get one and you'll need your passport anyway to obtain one. #3) When you apply for a replacement passport, one would usually hold on to their existing passport until their replacement passport is available... ... and then the corner is clipped off the old passport when you are issued with your new passport - thus its highly unlikely you'll be without a passport unless your embassy does things differently. 3rd point negates the issue.

So, are they also going to face terrorism charges ? ... Because, aren't these home made bombs the very sort of bombs being used to kill and maim non-Muslims in and around the Southern three provinces ? (thrown at police stations etc) ??? ... Isn't is these same ping-pong bombs continually used by 'insurgents' to disrupt the whole of the South and then sometimes expand that terror to Bangkok ?... ... the same type of explosives used to disrupt activities from time to time in Bangkok ? And... with the name, these pinp-pong bombs sound, relatively harmless, but they are actually the size of a tennis ball - and highly deadly.

The mind set of these characters is outstanding.. Perhaps they needed a 'bridge guard' who would prevent him from crossing the bridge. I see regular traffic Jams near the Port in Bangkok, as articulated lorries pull up to the toll booths and are then prevented access (only covered fixed trucks permitted), I still see pickups with stuff flying out of them them, though, and uncovered pickups carrying items are not permitted either. It doesn't matter - on Thailands roads where there is a regulation for the safety and benefit of everyone else - there are a queue of drivers waiting to 'ignore' that regulation with complete disregard for any of the other drivers and people around them... ... Be it blowing through and not stopping for red lights... undercutting on the hard shoulder, going too fast down hills (leading to brake failure), overtaking while there are oncoming vehicles, pulling out of a side street without looking etc etc and on and on... the list is endless, the results are nearly always the same - major damage and traffic loss of limb and / or life. -------- Doing the rounds on social medial last week, there was another video of another bridge in Thailand collapsing under the weight of a truck... I couldn't find that video to post here, but in running the search I found another common theme - Lots of similar events in the USA... overweight vehicles with drivers completely ignoring signs and common sense attempting to use 'reduce load' bridges with the same results.

Tailgating - very common in countries with poor driver education... drivers just copying the way others drive and driving habits such as this become legacy behavior. Because other vehicles do not stop when the light turns red - Just watch at the junctions, see a light turn red then count all the cars going through on red, usually at least 5. ... So drivers don't pull away from the lights quickly, becasue there is a higher liklihood of a truck-blowing through the red light and t-boning them... hence the caution, which is also just copying the way others drive and driving habits such as this become legacy behavior. Careful doing that, you'll caught out by a vehicle blowing through a red light. On the acceleration thing - its true, Thai's tend not to acellerate quickly, after passing through lights or / toll booths - the built up speed slowly, then the brakes is the last thing they want to touch. Valid question... I think when pulling away some think they are being efficient and down want to accelerate too hard, but then a lot do the same thing - again, I think this is legacy behavior - drivers copying the way they've seen others behave.

That was my thoughts on this.. A lot personal anecdote is going to be involved as traditions and modernisation comes into this... But, I always understood that Marriages in Thailand work slightly differently than in the west from the ceremonial and engagement point of view. i.e. The Ring (engagement) is not usually part of the process... Its straight to the Wedding Ceremony and there 'maybe' an engagement ceremony on the same day early in the morning etc. When we were married, we omitted the 'early morning' stuff as I didn't want my Wife to be exhausted by mid evening (middle of the evening ceremony). Thus: We had a Midday thing at her house, then off to the hotel. Then a 'smaller engagement ceremony' at the hotel at about 5pm, at which point both an engagement ring and wedding ring went on. Then into the evening Wedding Party.... Thus from personal anecdote, the engagement ring was only given on the actual wedding day... Even though the wedding had been planned for over 6 months, we never entered a an engaged phase where my Wife was my 'fiancé'...

Bangkok taxi driver berates passenger over travel distance
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
So who is the official registered driver from the taxi company then? How would having that information assist anyone as he wasn't involved in the incident? Someone was driving the taxi.... ... Either it was someone else approved by the Taxi company, and they know who it is but are avoiding responsibility. ... Or, it was another additional driver that the taxi company knew nothing about, but the registered driver knows who it is. ... Or, the tax was stollen and no one has any idea who it is. I think the latter is not really a probability... Either the original registered driver knows who the driver was, or the taxi company - either way, someone is lying. -
I had one of those... a number of years back. Ordered an SMP Saddle for my bike (about 6000 baht or something like that), a rubbishy phone case arrived. I went through the complains / returns process highlighting the scam to Lazada, I initiated a return with a complaint and my money was returned.

Or just have a rule - No CoD orders, simple !!... As pointed out earlier, this is an individual choice - But I personally find CoD incredibly invonvenient. My Wife and I are going to go through the extra steps of telling each other what we have ordered... We just know that any delivery guy who turns up asking for CoD is a scam. Additionally, we live inside a MooBaan and are rarely in all day, so we don't have to make sure we are there to pay the CoD... We can just ask the Delivery guy to leave the package on our doorstep. Hassle free, no messing around waiting for delivery or reorganising delivery for the next day when we may not be in again...
-
An individual preference of course... But we have no idea what the other has ordered from various platforms... we just know we never order CoD and that avoids the scam.
-
Yup.. Its a scam that has been around for a while now. Numerous threads about it... including the one I started below, a few people were sceptical that it was really a scam, but since then a load of others have also reported the same attempts. Easy avoided simply by never doing Cash on Delivery (for any order).

World’s best hotel: Bangkok’s Mandarin Oriental steals the show

No…it’s one of the bigger chains & it’s consistent… Marriott is kind of like the Audi of hotels, whereas the Mandarin Oriental is more of a Rolls Royce… -

World’s best hotel: Bangkok’s Mandarin Oriental steals the show

Agreed... even down to the training of the staff... Though its an extremely bold claim - "best in the world"... ... But the 'best anything in the world' is an extreme claim when it comes down to subjectiveness... That said, the opinions of some so far indicate they have never stayed there don't have a frame of reference and are just poo-pooing something they know little about.
