  1. I reckon 'drunk'... because you are failing to comprehend that your individual anecdote is irrelevant when compared to the 'actual regulations'..... I have not once been asked to show funds upon entering Thailand, but my individual anecdote is also irrelevant as I know there is a requirement to have to show funds if entering Visa Exempt. The regulations can be debated endlessly, but thee regulations still exist. The logic and common sense behind any regulations can be debated endlessly, but the regulations still exist. The logic behind your comments remains fundamentally flawed as you are only pretending individual anecdote - thats the equivalent to someone suggesting that seatbelts are not needed as they have never been in a car accident.
  2. While implies a degree of murderous intent for pretty much anyone knows the addition of methanol is deadly... even teens know this - so I don't believe that the bootleggers didn't.
  3. Thats not the truth... The truth is that 'you think they are useless'... the reality is there may be a perfectly valid reason Immigration wants these regulations to remain.... I don't know what that might be, but as Liquorish pointed out - are we going to show cards and apps from the 60 different countries entitled to 60 day VE entries... and that could well be the reason it's cash.... Then there was some miscommunication, or your friend was lucky - he either had a very flexible Imm officer who did not know the regulation, or, this was not a requirement anyway and in showing the 'bank app' your friend was adding a completely superfluous layer to proceedings.... That matters little as your point is moot - IF asked by an immigration officer on V.E. Entry to Thailand to shoe proof of funds, you have to show cash... That is the regulation and the experience of your friend does not change that - thus, the information you are presenting is ultimately incorrect from the perspective that others may take advice from it.
  4. Excellent - perhaps things from this aspect of customer service in Thailand are improving. I had a similar interaction with Electrolux - figuring our drier (10y old) was on its last legs. After a little pushing, discussion and finally getting through to the 'right people'... they came out with the promise that if they could fix it they would, if they couldn't, it'd just be a call out charge - They fixed it, costs were relatively cheap... I think the next time it 'goes' we'll just get a next one and I'm inclined to go with the same brand. As this is 'not a name and shame' but a positive outcome - who is the manufacturer that provided you with good service (in the end).
  5. Loads, at at some point in time they will need to be 'razed'... There are loads of condos some are older and will need to be demolished as they become unsafe due to age, building standards, structural integrity etc, potentail erosion of foundations etc...
  6. You mean debit/credit cards or Apps from 93 different Countries entitled to 60 day VE entries. There is a reason it's cash. I mean the Banking Apps ( assuming that Jack1988 meant Thai Apps - which was in reference to the initial question: Quoted here: Regardless - time have changed so much now... it hardly matters where our money is... we can use an app to gain quick access / payment - Apple Money / Wise / Revolut / SCB Planet / HSBC Global Money etc... the need to actually carry money is becoming less and less. On a recent journey, I carried the equivalent of 40,000 baht in cash (in local currency), on the last day of the holiday I had to make sure I payed everything in cash (not digital) so I wasn't stuck with the currency as I'd been using ApplePay (tied to Wise with a local currency wallet) to pay for everything up to that point. It 'could' be the same here - there is no need to show cash anymore... But I'm sure there is an immigration requirement to be able to show proof of funds if request - and thus 'physical cash' us unambiguous, is simple, removes any doubt etc... I'm just surprised the amount is so small. Except the ATM's are after Immigration in arrivals. (yeah - I meant land side)... It is one of the 'silly issues' that exists at Thai Airports (many Airports) that ATM's in local currency do not exist Airside on Landing - this would resolve a lot of issues. I'm sure its not a security issue - because they can top up duty free etc... so there's no reasons why ATM's couldn't be placed there - its one of those things. Anyway - I like to carry about US$1000 just incase things go wrong. So while I like digital payments and find it a lot more convenient, cash is a good back-up, thus I find traveling with a major currency back-up important.
  7. I see YouTube videos all the time from inside shopping malls in Thailand... So I don't think there is a specific law about it. However, it may not be popular by the shops and owners of the mall for reasons would could end up showing them in a negative light (think defamation laws etc). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0p1vPpMV24 You shouldn't have an issue - although Thailand does have some laws on filing other people. In short, you are permitted to 'inadvertently' film others without their permission IF doing so does not paint them in a negative light. This article covers that: https://www.legal.co.th/resources/thailand-criminal-law/criminal-litigation/filming-people-thailand-without-consent/
  8. As mentioned... Whisky has Zero Carbs... (but I don't really fancy drinking Whisky with a meal)... ... So when I want to wash something down and am feeling 'Carb conscious' there is such a think as Low Carb Beer.. I think San Miguel Light has been one of the go-to beers for low carbs... in reference.. San Mig light (regular - 330ml) Style: Lager ABV: 5% CARB: 5g KCAL: 100 Cal Singha beer (regular - 330ml) Style: Lager ABV: 5% CARB: 18g KCAL: 115 Cal Singha beer 89 (330ml) Style: Lager ABV: 3.2% CARB: 1.9g KCAL: 89 Full Moon Brew Works : Say Play (330ml) Style: Cold IPA ABV: 4% CARB: 2.5g KCAL: 90 Full Moon Brew Works : Sumerlay fin fin IPA (330ml) Style: Fruity IPA ABV: 6% CARB: Cant find info - but if the above is low, this could be. KCAL: Cant find info - but if the above is low, this could be, but higher due to higher Alc content.
  9. Theoretically untrue - AOT taxi / Grab etc, Hotel, Most food and drink outlets and supermarkets all accept digital payment... ... Besides IF someone has money in their Thai account, they can just go to an ATM airside. The requirement to show 'Cash Funds' is antiquated and stupid - its a legacy of past policies which have not been updated. Like many 'requirements' its rather non-sensical, nevertheless, its a requirements, so we must ensure our bases are covered.
  10. Of course they will if you try to waste electricity illegally How does one 'waste electricity' illegally ? is there legal and illegal waste of electricity ? My Wife has the AC on at about -10 Deg C in the bedroom, then wraps herself up in duvet suitable for an Arctic winter !!... that's illegal use and should be stopped in my book !!! (as I pay the bills).
  11. I misunderstood the meaning when the phrase 'illegally drawing electricity'.... But, IF steeling electricty with a 'tap-in' to a non-metered source, then thats fully understandable. (wrongly so) I initially understood that they may have just had very high usage (and very high bills) causing the problems which the MEA decided was illegal.
  12. Fair enough - given both sides of the story... a) Girls tricked into meeting the boys in the dorm a) Boys recorded the 'acts' a) Boys used the footage to blackmail b) Girls entered the dorm willingly b) No force of threats visible b) No other commotion reported Should the Police be watching the video before there was a press release then - and then determining if the girls we voluntary participants in sexual activity, of if they were forcefully coerced.... - Tricked into meeting in the dorm, could have been "meet us to play cards" - that would show them entering willingly, but still coercion if there was malicious intent. - Or were they playing spin the bottle and one thing lead to another ? - Does the video of any sexual activity show the girls to be willing participants, or, does it show them putting up resistance, being held down etc. - No other commotion reported - how 'powerful' were the other boys, others scared to say anything ? The video will have a lot of answers - but on reflection, after my initial thoughts - if the girls are claiming they are raped and in-fact the video shows they were willing participants, then the 2longs comments not to 'hang-em-high' until more information is a available is valid. Thus: Apologies 2long - I jumped in too strongly on your post (using the phone to respond and not fully assimilate your point before I let my foot of the clutch wheel spinning into a response). That said: the blackmail aspect is concerning, but the video may very well exonerate or highlight guilt of the boys.
  13. Some spectacular 'whatifery' to try and justify your position of attempting to defend boys who are 'accused' of raping, recording and blackmailing two 13 year olds. Are you shifting the goal posts to try and score a win from your heinous defence of rapists ? (the boys videoed the act). OR... are you suggesting - we should not pass any comment, because there has been no legal judgement (as yet)... and we should only wait for the outcome - thus making a discussion forum, somewhat moot ?
  14. In this case... I do agree, you are not blaming the 13 year old girls, but you seem to be trying to 'absolve' the 10-15 year old boys. Any boy older than 10 years old knows its wrong to 'touch' anyone in the 'private-zone' (or whatever its being called)... .. If a child does not know this, its poor guardianship, poor parenting etc... nevertheless, I find it hard to believe any child does not know this is wrong... and then filming it and blackmailing the girls.
  15. Ah, I understand the issue... Is the solution then not to get an extension of your Non-Imm O (based on parentage of a Thai child) from Immigration in Udon ? OR, have your Child moved to the house-book in Chiang-Mai (which I understand may be more difficult if you are renting.... as a Thai Child will need to be in a Blue Book, no ?) Open Question: In such a case, could a Thai child be placed in a Yellow House Book (along with his 'single' father) ? ---------- Another issue: Any quick 'in and out' will be kicking the can down the road - could you get a Non-Imm O (based on parent of a Thai child) from a neighboring country ? (take your son with you while you do this).
  16. Well written... As was another comment suggesting that any opinion against such behavior sees some levying the accusation of bigot at us... ... Its now impossible to present a balanced and socially healthy opinion on such issues without being accused of being out of the fringes of right winged bigotry. We play football weekly - on some days the standard is higher and no female joins, its too difficult for them. Other days its more relaxed and some females come and join in, if we are short the fathers bring their kids along for a fun kick-about. But, in competition, this is a different thing. - Adults 'born a man' have an physical advantage over females. - Adults 'in a grey area' (i.e. born male, transgender, born female but taking male hormones etc) have a physical advantage over females. The term 'grey area' is going to be a hugely unpopular term by some looking to shoehorn outrage in any comment they're unable to present a valid argument against or find the slightest bit 'imperfect' for their perceptions.... But, its valid when it comes to 'competition'.... ... Any 'grey area athlete' from this perspective really should not be permitted to compete against females in physical sports - its simply extremely unfair against those females against whole they win. The same goes for 'age'... in older sports we have cut offs... i.e. Masters Golf etc... Masters Football - still competetive, but in Masters Football (Veterans football) players need to be over 35 as after this there is a massive drop off in performance in most people and its unfair to expect competition with 22 year old fit and healthy speed demons !... Its unhealthy that society is attempting normalises 'Trans players' in female sport for fear of being called bigots - the decision makers need to be stronger than this and say sorry, we respect your wishes... you cannot play against females, you can join the mail competition (or if there are sufficient players - play in a 'trans + female' category, or just have a completely mixed category (with limited numbers 'born men' on the field at any time) just as they do in Hockey.
  17. There's nothing like a good flood, drought, climate change, pending economic and now pandemic crises to bring the fear out so that policians can profit from the proposed solutions... Throw in poor transport issues too, high speed train anyone ? The threat of Bangkok 'Sinking' has been ever present for decades - built on soft rock and its the water within that rock is being compressed - combine that with tidal extremes (seasonal) and the monsoons and we will always have a situation whereby Bangkok cannot drain. Move a massive population (over years) to an area with higher land relief and instead of flooding, we'll have flash flooding - we don't have the flooding issues to quite the same extent in the other area's because the same level of precipitation is not encountered. OR, if it is, there is also flooding and mayhem. Thus: anywhere a major population is moved to, there will be issues. Central Bangkok already has an excellent flood defence system in place, the issue is maintenance - address this, maintain the existing system, then further issues can be addressed.... such as extending it, building 'flood reservoir's' (i.e. KL). Flooding of capital cities is a regionally wide issue for one reason - the amount of rain dropped in a very short period of time - we can't stop the cities getting flooded, we can only mitigate the impact when they do.
  18. Yes, Naohiro - this is something I would still consider.
  19. Nope - that won't work.... IF on the very slim chance a person is asked to show 'funds' it has to be cash. Silly, I know, but by that stage, the 'requirement to show cash' is being used as an attempt for another reason to reject entry - there have been reports on here that people have had the cash and not even been asked to show it, but they late found out that this was the reason for rejected entry
  20. Have you also considered the KIA EV5 ??? (new model - looks decent) Its an EV of course - so if you are against that, then its a no goer, however, just driving around Bangkok it would offer greater efficiency.
  21. Do you mean you are currently on a Non-Immigrant type O Visa based on being a parent of a Thai national ?... and that visa (or extension) is soon to 'expire'... Can you not simply renew / extend it further at immigration without having to leave the country ? OR, if I am misunderstanding something?
  22. The bootleg booze issue is rife... The Yadong is one issue - but we know to avoid that... the other major issue is all the counterfeit stuff. After having had too much beer and being full, a number of times I've been to bars and drank Whisky neat and found it to be fake.... ... Its annoying as the the bootlegged stuff ends up giving me a worse hangover - so I end up leaving it and walking out of the bar... ... The problem is that there are too many bars doing this - either they know and are deliberately buying cheap knock-off booze, or they are being cheated... Either way, they've not been careful enough so I don't return. Its been an issue for years - I just found a thread I made about this years ago.. https://aseannow.com/topic/942918-fake-liquor/ And then there was this report a few years after that - it seems authorities never do anything about this, and now people are dead. https://aseannow.com/topic/1069092-beware-very-dangerous-fake-johnny-walker-headed-for-bangkok/
