  1. Lol...oh it's preposterous 😄 Sorry... preposterous is a big word - it means 'it's silly'...
  2. While there are fewer foreigners in area's such as Taling chan... there are plenty there. I've been there plenty of times, I have friends living over there... I see other foreigners in the market there.... far less than other more central area's of Bangkok... Nevertheless... the implication of not seeing another foreigner for 6 months implies he's never left his street.
  3. I did spend two weeks here once and didn't see another Western face... ... I was in two-week quarantine (covid) after flying in. Otherwise, in over twenty years of living here I've been all over Thailand, and one thing is very clear, rarely a day goes by without seeing another Western face, no matter where I am. The whole concept that someone could live in a capital city and not see anyone beyond the nationality (race) of the host nation for over 6 months is preposterous... its completely and utter Bull shyite !!...
  4. To be fair to Bob, the hawker probably had a minor tantrum when he refused to buy anything. I've encountered similar situations myself. I've even just browsed market stalls and faced anger from Thai vendors: "Why you come? You look, you no buy." Many of us have experienced this negativity in heavily touristed areas. In such places, some Thais may have become jaded—familiarity breeds contempt, and it's likely some hold a general disregard towards foreigners. I believe most people understand that these experiences are not representative of Thailand as a whole. In my opinion, it's quite stupid to make sweeping generalisations of a whole nation based on individual or localised experiences. That said, in other contexts, a sweeping generalisation may be fitting... just not in the the case of bob's negativity.
  5. Hard to imagine that is possible unless you live at the end of a dead end Soi and never leave the area around the house. Thats the 'Livingstone complex'... When Westerners want to be the only ones... Its rather delusional... and in Bangkok, its impossible that someone does not see another Western face unless, as you mention they are a complete hermit.
  6. True - there are also other foreigners who complain a lot. Some are just outright negative characters who'll shoe-horn a negative out of a positive. Others discuss and complain about valid issues, many of those complaints and discussions mirror what the Thai's also find objectionable. Some on these forums are unable to distinguish a valid complaint / discussion with relentless and unwarranted Thai-bashing... then there is the 'this is place is perfect brigade' who won't hear a negative word said against Thailand. In between these extremes of opinion is healthy balance which may vary depending on location, time spent here, life out-look etc... you often get out what you put in. The opinions of some become easily tainted - the mistake some may make is allowing a couple of negative experiences tarnish being here. I complain about how authorities do very little towards safety here, particularly road safety - but that negative opinion of one facet of Thailand does not extend across the whole of Thailand - this is where you are being heavily criticised bob, you allow yourself to draw a generalised opinion based on the individual negative encounters and experiences while completely ignoring the positive aspects of life here. For most foreigners living here there is a 'net positive' - we recognise and live with Thailands faults, we also recognise faults in our home nations.... But all in all, we like it here and stay here because of this 'net positive'.... You on the other hand seem to be living here in a complete deficit of any enjoyment or positive experiences - either that, or you are so locked into your negative Thai rhetoric that you refuse to discuss any positives on this forum.
  7. After that interaction do you reckon she also went online & stated all foreigners are bad ??? 🤔
  8. Depends... do you have ice in your spirits ?
  9. Yeah... agree on that point... We had to pick up our maid from the clink once.... they'd been rounded up on Bang Bon, which apparently is where all the Burmese labourers go on their days off, the police know it too, so it turns into a game of cat and mouse... the maid was outside of 'the area of permission' (as per her migrant labourer work permit). It cost me 2000 baht to get her released from a room, about 50 Burmese folk packed in like sardines. A nice earner for the Police when the employers turn up to 'free their staff'...
  10. Are they here for Pride Month ???
  11. maybe you take insults of your parents better than I do.... absolutely no reason to trash the deceased... He didn't trash the deceased... he just asked "Did your mother or your (not so young) wife tell you what you believe?".... i.e. have those those females around you influenced the independence of your thoughts?... There are enough real insults out there without trying to shoehorn in some outrage and play the victim to a fairly innocuous comment.
  12. Why would you concentrate on the amount of bottles? You still only have one glass, right? Its possibly related to 'splitting the bill'... some are more frugal and may only want to pay for exactly what they had - thats the only think I can think of when it comes to 'keeping track of bottles'... As the Op pointed out, its just a minor gripe...
  13. Bit of a finicky one aren't you ?... Take it easy... you read way to much insult into OMF's post and hyperbolae'd into meltdown..
  14. Its ok... the 'ice in beer is sacrilege' comment is one every newbie to Thailand makes until they realise they are unoriginal.... and just learn to go with the flow..
  15. Because knowing how to ride a bike will prevent dogs from chasing you down and biting you ????
  16. As per the excellent responses from digbeth and steve187 (particularly with the linked thread). IF the 'rental company' replied with 1st Class Insurance, then the car is not covered for rental. 1st Class Insurance is fully comprehensive insurance for private vehicles. Thus: Protect yourself and go with a known company or a company who can offer the correct 'Type 120 rental insurance' (as per the linked thread above).
  17. I was the one to put the laughing emoji in your post....only because I feel sorry for you ... because you thought your own joke was funny...only problem is ..none of us know what the hell your talking about ! As I mentioned - some will get it, most probably won't... Don't kick yourself, blame your teachers for the poor education... too late to do anything about it now.
  18. Anything to do with being downgraded to a dwarf in 2006 ????..... (I expect some confused emoji's to that - some will get it, most probably won't)
  19. Its incredible how within one day of signing up to this forum he's managed to out himself as one of the most overwhelmingly disagreeable and dislikable characters on here... Its astonishing that anyone is actually acknowledging his trolling....
  20. The only spin to add here Bob, is that you're blinded to such a degree by your own negative bias that you suck the oxygen out of every single encounter that has the potentail not to be negative. And while no generalisation is true, some of your comments are partially true, but only for a minority of Thai's, not the sweeping generalisations you unintelligently fall into... The flaw in nearly every comment you make is relying on bias and upscaling these experiences to tar a whole nation.. ... Do some Thai's dislike foreigners ?... of course. ... Do all Thai's dislike foreigners ?... of course not. The simple logic of this seems so completely lost on you that your critical balance and sanity has to be questioned...
  21. It absolutely is an anti foreigner campaign, Bangkok ready is spot on! They hate us with a passion. Please don't include me in the 'us' that you use... I don't want to be associated with those of a similar mentality to yours, bob... Your generalisation that 'They [Thai's] hate us with a passion' is as insulting as it is outright stupid. The reality is that like everyone else, Thai's are as equally indifferent to us foreginers as they are each other until we pop up on their radar - then we are treated according to our behavior on our individual merit. Some sources like to dramatise - thats the medial all over the world. In general, the media demonises everything and everyone... your are blind if you cant see that. But, you are demonising all Thai's with general accusations... that really is particularly dumb. Quite likely yes - look at the news coming from Spain at the moment - very anti foreigner.
  22. I think a lot of that has been caused more so by the prevalence of 'social media' targeting a specific nationalistic nerve... ... I wouldn't suggest there are 'multiple strong anti-foreigner campaigns'... but I would agree that a handful of foreigners have behave so poorly, there has been some publicised black-lash and outpourings of disdain on social media and national media which we may consider edging towards nationalism (anti-farangism if you want) until we also compare to the similar levels of outrage Thai's would levy at other Thai's for similar behavior... (just look at the media attention the Dr who was killed crossing the road received).
  23. What do bisexual cyclists have to do with the issue ?
  24. well that hasn't been my experience at all. bob. Thats what people repeatedly try and tell you, bob. Your experience is individual and the generalisation you broadly project is based on repeated personal broken encounters. You are the very embodiment of the saying "Its not them, its you" ....
