  1. Every country makes it difficult to game the immigration rules... Thailand has in fact made it extremely easy by offering Covid extensions well beyond the period travel was restricted due to Covid-19.
  2. Doesn't his current Covid exemption stamp expire on 22-Nov ?? What would be transferred into his new passport ? - the same stamp expiring on 22nd Nov and a 7 day extensions on top of that ? And then fly out to either his home country or a neighbouring country and secure a ‘real’ visa on which to enter Thailand ? (i.e. A Tourist Visa)
  3. Same issue with WhatsApp - it works on one ‘mobile’ device only... (note: it does work with a Mobile + LapTop). Lite App seems to be the way to go for Line - if running an iPhone, as this app is not on the Appstore its going to take a little ‘jiggery pokery’ to download it onto your phone.
  4. It seems she (Cecile I assume is a females name) was not deported, but refused entry at the Malaysian land border. The main question is.... How long has Cecile been outside of Thailand ?... i.e. a few weeks or a year or more ? I think the best recommendation for Cecile is to get the correct Visa... in this case, if not working etc... that would be a Tourist Visa. I can’t see why she should be rejected if she has not been in Thailand for a year or so - unless of course there is something else not being told.
  5. I may be mistaken... You don’t have ‘visas’ you have exemptions based on Covid-19... (and have had these for approx 3 years you mention / I think you mean about 2.5 years from mid 2020 ?). As Immigration no longer issue Covid exemptions I suspend that they are telling you IF you leave you may not be permitted to return as you have ‘too many visas’.... (exemptions). I’m not sure IF a covid extension can be transferred into a new passport - but your expires anyway... so there is no point transferring that. Also, I’m don’t think you can do a ‘passport swap’ at a land border. i.e. Exit on one passport (your full one), enter Cambodia on your new passport, then exit and re-enter Thailand on your new passport. If I’m not mistaken is a 'passport swap’ is only permitted when travelling by air. I think what Immigration have suggested is that you go to Immigration and Apply for a new 7 day extensions to get your affairs in order (so you don’t end up on overstay) and then find another way to remain in Thailand... i.e. Non Imm Visa (if you have that option available to you), or obtain a Tourist Visa in a neighbouring country (if they’ll issue one to you), or Tourist Visa in your home country etc... As you specifically wrote to UbonJoe, I’m sure he’ll be here with better advice - but from what you have mentioned it seems Immigration have ‘protected you’ from being ’stuck’ outside of Thailand with them not permitting your return on a visa exempt based on too many Covid extensions (and not proper visa’s).
  6. The obvious one is the beach... Quite pleasant to walk along and you can walk as far as you can... Plenty going on around you in the evenings... especially at the weekends... If you go a bit too far and feel too tied to walk back up the beach, hire a horse !
  7. No airline encourages its passengers not to wear a mask - that idea is ridiculous.
  8. Right now it takes 28-35mins (depending on route) from Phayathai to Suvarnabumi via taxi. Of course - its a lot easier with a small duffel... 200m walk from BTS to Airlink is not too much - more than I want with baggage though. Are there escalators are are there steps (for those with rolling luggage). Grab Taxi can be booked. I don’t want to have to walk out of my Moo-ban to the main road and flag down a taxi either - no point - just use the Grab App.
  9. How to do you get to the Airport Rail link from Khao Sarn Road ? (Its 40mins from KSR to Suvranabumi - Google Maps as of 4:20pm on Saturday - probably longer than that at the same time on a week day - i.e. 1 hour).
  10. Yeah... I get it for those on a shoe-string budget... BTS to Makkassan is how much ?? 20-30 baht... Rail Link is 45 baht... so were looking at 65-70 baht to get to the airport - thats exceptionally cheap - I get that.....
  11. Makkassan to Airport is currently 29 mins (google Maps) - your 1 hour is somewhat exaggerated unless you are travelling at peak-rush hour periods (i.e. 5-6pm on a Friday). The rail link ‘would’ offer a time saving IF someone is within walking distance from Makkassan Station and the road traffic is horrendous. I’m travelling to and from the airport regularly - the journey from Ekammai / Thonglor area very rarely takes longer than 45mins... Mostly about 30mins.
  12. So now its the BTS to Phayathai... then change to the Airport link. & also get a Hotel near the Phayathai or Makkassan so you can catch the airport link ???? Hmm... ???? Want to take luggage on the BTS ??... Utlatimely, the Airport link is no good if you have luggage, no good if you have any distance more than 5mins to travel to Makkassan... Do you really want to be changing trains from BTS to Airport link? sure that negates an time saving ? The ONLY reason I see the Rail Link being any better is if someone is only concerned about costs. A taxi from the same area is about 400 baht including tolls... Rail link is how much ? 45 Baht ? So I do see cost saving if thats all you are thinking about.
  13. At the very beginning of our relationship my Wife considered I just had a bad attitude with some point... unjustly so... We’d walk into a shop etc and I’d ask someone a question or ask someone something in the street etc.... (or the Wife would)... And ‘sometimes' within seconds I’d just say ’thank you’ and walk away... Wife would ask... Why... I’d say, they were lying, or about to lie. She had no idea how I knew, she’d figure I was a little impolite. It wasn’t impoliteness, it was just impatience for the person who had just or was about to string a line of utter BS together - it all stems from the face issue of Thai’s in general struggling to say “I don’t know”.... Years later she gets it.. she trusts my judgement and even calls out this behaviour herself. Its not rude.. We just say.. Don’t worry, thanks anyway, and walk on... It saves a lot of time.
  14. Totally understand you Op.. OK.. not with my Wife though, she’s smart and backs me up on pretty much everything having experienced my logic vs local logic on many situations... Best story I can tell is a ‘toilet problem’ in a house we’d just moved into. 4 toilets in the house. Ground floor ‘guest’ toilet wouldn’t flush after a week (after we’d moved in). They blamed the fault on ‘having used the toilet’... Of course we’d used it. They asked if we’d done any #2’s in there... Yes was my answer... Oh, farang cannot #2 in this toilet... Utterly exasperated and irritated. I asked they why it said American-Standard and not ’Thai Standard’... The lifted the toiled and found the toilet was misaligned with the exit pipe, only allowing for 1/4 area of the waist / flush at the ‘joint’... Both Wife and I incredulous at the excuses coming out of their mouth until we both got quite annoyed and they uncleared the blockage, but the toilet to this day remins misaligned - to realign it would take a major piece of work to re-pipe underneath the house.
  15. According to Google Maps.. Right now (Saturday 1pm). It will take 21 mins from Makkassan to the Airport by Taxi. It takes 26 mins by train. Of course, the train is more reliable than the traffic... i.e. at 5-6pm on a Friday it’ll take a lot longer to get to the airport... But, for anyone using a taxi to get from their Condo to Makkassan the traffic is also dire in the city centre.... or BTS / MRT is also dire (extremely crowded) especially with lugged and involves a lot of steps. IF the travelling at a time when the Airport Rail Link is quiet, odd are the roads are not that busy either and its a 30-45min journey to the airport from most area’s of town.
  16. How do you get to the Airport link ?.... You still need a taxi, right ? or can walk? So most people still need a taxi which makes the above comment somewhat moot. From Thonglor, its quicker to get to the airport than to the Makkassan Station... Unless someone lives within 5mins walk of Makkassan station and has no baggage the Airport Rail link offers no convenience or time saving.
  17. Qatar has all the power now... they can go back on any agreements they made in the bidding process - Qatar has made FIFA look like fools...
  18. Hardly surprising why...
  19. Then I must say that you have no idea how much skill it takes to play American football. Yes, you may think they have to wear protection, it is a hard hitting game of brute and stamina as well as using skills and techniques to play the game. You should try and open your mind more and see both sides. I will say this is personal opinion for sure, because I have watched both sports and I don't care for Rugby, but I really dislike hockey and all the fighting on the ice, there is no sportsmanship there. I agree.... ‘we’ should try and open our mind more... read my comments again, with an open mind this time !!!!... Example below:
  20. Do you need proof of address for the Thai Elite Visa ? If you have the TM30 (owner reporting) from a year ago - that should be ok, as you are on the same Visa and have not moved. If you are unsure you could log into the Section38 Immigration App and do another online report of you want (use an iPad or iPhone the Immigration webpages don’t work properly, the app is better) - but that takes a little time IF its the first time as you need a passport to be mailed to you etc. All in all, with TM30 filed in within the last year I think you are ok.
  21. Its a different game... but, yes... NFL players are faster the linebackers etc are bigger than the fwd in rugby... But... How long is the ball in play for in NFL ???? - I’m reading that the ball is live for about 11-18mins of the 3 to 3.5 hr game.... Thats not to criticise it, but to highlight what a different game it is and comparisons are not accurate (its like comparing draughts and chess)/. Egg vs the chicken - Do they need the padding because the impacts are so great, or are the impacts so great because they have the padding ???
  22. All-in wrestling for a weird shaped ball. Just like athletics huh???... all you’ve got to do is run from A-B... easy !!... So many of these comments are just plan stupid...
  23. What does an 'exploding tire' sound like ??... and how would she recognise that ? I wonder how relatable this is to the common comment we read on here that tyres of commonly over-inflated... guys complain that when they get there motorcycles back from service their tyres are massively over inflated....
  24. American English (Curb) vs English English (Kerb) - thats all... Interesting that they also use ’Tire' instead of ’Tyre’... The author can’t decide if they are English or American.
  25. From the technical aspect of scrummaging, line outs, rucks and malls... to the timing and angles of the runs and passes.... the variation and evolution of tactics through as the game evolves... The skill and intelligence involved in being a successful rugby player can’t be under-estimated. But... If it has to be explained to you, you wouldn’t understand anyway....
