  1. Indeed.... as you mentioned this is an idiot making an utter nuisance of himself driving in circles at an intersection... ... No drifting, no handbrake turns, no sliding.... As usual, the reporting is totally inaccurate as it is in so many other reports we read.
  2. This post above contains way too much common sense and realism for some to be able to handle while attempting to maintain their rigid belief that the article is 100% legal fact.
  3. Rigidity again and not understanding what 'can' happen in Thailand. You seem to think the Police never try and charge / fine people who've broken no laws. That it wrong, the police get involved in all manner of issues, often taking illegal actions themselves. How many of us have been accused of a traffic manoeuvre by the BiB without any proof otherwise. At a check-point, you have a helmet, have a licence... nothing the BiB can do... "Oh... Policeman down the road says you made an illegal left turn up the road - 500 baht fine"... I know you'll want to, but there's not need to argue the above point, its just an example of something that happened. The Taxi mafia have proven themselves lawless, its not surprising that they can also encourage the Police to act in a manner which is not fully legal. Was the lady driving for BOLT or GRAB... the article doesn't mention she wasn't. The article mentiones she was an illegal taxi driver.... I'm questioning if the author of the article was even there to get the facts or has just lifted a half story of social media padded it and peddled it for click bait... and some people such as yourself LL are lapping it up as a series of facts.
  4. Quite right but there is a chance that a licenced taxi will be insured, there's guaranteed zero chance that the woman impersonating a taxi/taxi driver would have insurance if she was taking fare-paying passengers. And you don't see any 'grey area between' ??? IF the lady was taking someone she knows for a 'fee' none of them have to admit it was a fare paying passenger and any claim for the limited medical care can be made against her own insurance (if she has it of course). Now.. playing along and assuming a taxi does have insurance... What level of cover and compensation is offered to a fare paying passenger if injured in an accident ???? Is it worth anything at all ????... We could be arguing about 5000 baht towards medical bills and thats it.
  5. Anyone thinking that they will be compensated by a Thailand Taxi driver (whether legal and insured or not) is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. I would still ride with the lady in the OP versus some taxi mafia driver (who could easily be uninsured as per other posts). Nobody asks to see evidence of insurance each time they take a "taxi". 'Cloud Cuckoo land' indeed.... this rigidness in many of the responses implies a degree of credulous gullibility to the point of it potentially being an actual disorder.
  6. There you go with your 'by the book out there on the spectrum rigid asbergers-esque' complete unwavering belief of the accuracy of everything reported.... Odds on.. - The concerned citizen was a taxi driver complaining about competition. - The lady - has a better level of insurance than any tuk-tuk, Baht Bus, MC taxi and most regular taxi's. No proof of course, no links etc... Its also possible that she was working through GRAB or BOLT and that is conveniently left out of the article. It's possible the BiB simply levied a fine upon her to avoid a conflict with complaining taxi drivers and that too was left out of the article... Reports here are not exactly known for any level of accuracy and are often highly misleading. This is Phuket, lawless and the polished version in the press is lapped up by gullible fools who believe that what is written in the Thai press is fact - it often isn't and reporters never investigate or get to the facts of a story.... This gives guys like you LL sufficient 'text' to argue... "Thats not in the story"... "Thats not what was written"... etc etc in a pathetic and ridiculously rigid unwavering manner which is in complete opposition to the realities of real life encounters in Thailand.
  7. YAWN... So who do you think complained ??? A genuinely concerned citizen ??
  8. Those who have no problem being driven in uninsured, illegal vehicles may well be stupid enough to patronise her. Any idea what level of insurance Phuket TukTuks, Motorcycle Taxi's, Baht Busses and Regular taxis carry ??? You've checked right, because you'd be stupid to get in any vehicle without checking first if it had full insurance for fare paying passengers, right ????
  9. That would be the reasons for me getting one. I don't believe that they are any cleaner at all when considering bigger picture. Agreed, in areas of high population density the can make a big difference to the air we breathe, but the energy must also be sourced - in area's of high population density, there is not a lot of room to put solar on a condo - so that power comes from other sources / areas. Did you know about that 5 or 10 years ago ? It wasn't so long ago that governments were pushing diesel above everything else. Now the governments are pushing EV's.
  10. Back in April it took 7 weeks from application (at VFS) to receipt of Passport. At the same time the e-mail advised it could take up to 11 weeks.
  11. Seriously... get a grip... Some of the stuff I read on this forum border on the outright idiotic... For GRAB - receiving credit card payments, drivers get paid into their Grab Wallet immediately. I have not discussed this with a BOLT driver, but as the Apps are very similar, I imagine this to be the same. NOW... with regards to your comment... 'You should ALWAYS CARRY CASH'..... thats also utter rubbish... everyone takes e-payment now... From the noodle shop to the wet-market... (PromptPay is a very simple transaction). I'm trying to remember the last time I used cash in Thailand... Its been a couple of weeks and was probably a flag-fall taxi.
  12. And you know this how? How ??? ..... through being capable of communication.... not really that difficult is it ?
  13. Ok, give them a call and see what they say. Then get back to me. WOW... You really are outrageously unintelligent.... Why do I need to call to prove that something I have already done can be done ????? That has to be the most stupid suggestion I have ever read on this forum.
  14. Then he'd put on a sideways jig while crossing his wrists and jumping up and down as if riding a horse....
  15. I agree... plenty of possibilities that the guy took affront not to being asked to be quiet, but the manner in which he was asked. In which case his reaction was not specifically to a 'trans' person, but to someone who insulted him or was rude to him....
  16. Erm..... perhaps read the thread again... Totally agree... Locks are not going to stop someone who thinks its their right to get into that house.
  17. In Thailand ???.... they get out of prison and can be a taxi driver the following day. In theory you are correct of course, but since when has the law or meeting legal obligations mattered in any of this?.... If the Police were to stop all taxi's and check them, I wonder how many are actually fully legal, with full insurance for passengers etc... my guess is very few if any. I suspect the 'idea' in Thailand is based on this. In fact most laws in Thailand are perfectly good laws. The issue is of through a complete lack of enforcement the law is but a mere suggestion.
  18. Walk / ride / drive around looking for a 'print or camera shop'... anything with a Kodak poster on it... They'll more than likely to passport photos. Also... Run a google maps search... then do a street-maps walk through. Google Searches: - Passport Photograph - Printers - Print Services https://www.google.com/maps/place/Jumbo+Photo+Express/@19.904389,99.8307026,17z/data=!4m10!1m2!2m1!1sPassport+photo!3m6!1s0x30d70667c7ad7407:0xd78576ee71ed3c!8m2!3d19.904389!4d99.8329814!15sCg5QYXNzcG9ydCBwaG90b1oQIg5wYXNzcG9ydCBwaG90b5IBDGNhbWVyYV9zdG9yZZoBJENoZERTVWhOTUc5blMwVkpRMEZuU1VOQ2NWcDFNbXRCUlJBQuABAA!16s%2Fg%2F11c1s381c0?entry=ttu
  19. But do the actual taxi's themselves have any of this insurance ???? I very much doubt it for most, and in a couple of instances a taxi has hit my vehicle (in Bangkok) and those taxi's had no insurance at all.... While just about tolerable in Bangkok, the taxi services in area's outside of Bangkok needs a complete overhaul.
  20. Exactly this... Now, Isn't BOLT & GRAB legal in Thailand, so if she was using that App to secure passengers there is nothing illegal about what she was doing - SO... Was she using GRAB or BOLT ?... no mention of that, I wonder if it was conveniently left out. The Gangs of Taxi drivers in Phuket leave little to garner sympathy given their past actions. I recall the Wife on an honourary counsil (not sure which nation, but Western) being blocked from departing a hotel in her car after picking up her friend because taxis were claiming she was taking business away from them.... Some area's of Thailand, Phuket and Samui have entitled taxi drivers who fight against any competition while continuing to provide aggressive, impolite, extremely poor and extortionate service.
  21. There is nothing ambiguous about flashing yellow traffic lights. The Flashing yellow means 'proceed with caution'.... Just two stupid people ignoring the traffic lights with a 'me first' mentality so typical on Thailands roads.
  22. Might be best to zip your pie hole about it though in light of this news story. Why???.... Talking too much in the cinema is what happened, it's the tigger for the attack. The fact that the two were attacked are trans is also your trigger to make this an issue about gender identity and bigotry. IF someone identifying as any of LGBTQIA+ won the lottery in an empty room, I'm sure you'd find some way of making them out to be a victim....
  23. IF it were 2 very large 'anyones' he wouldn't have reacted !!!.... So while, knowing such information can allow us to make our own interpretation of any possible underlying reasons for an attack... it also generates a 'red-herring' where people can jump on a bandwagon and shoe-horn the issue into something else to suit their agenda..... These two were not attacked becasue they were trans... they were attacked because they caused an unhinged d-head to lose face.
  24. Of course...... 'it happens elsewhere'... But elsewhere fleeing the scene is penalised to such extent its worse than any initial potential penalty. At 6am was this guy drunk ?? we'll never know, but thats somewhat moot - after fleeing the scene his charges should be greater than that of Vehicular Manslaughter to Gross Vehicular Manslaughter.
