  1. Nothing... IMO they're awesome... they also take a little practice to get the brew right. i.e. ideal amount of coffee, right grind, right amount of heat not to get the water boiling too aggressively so it isn't forced to quickly through the filter (casing channelling and poorer extraction) and spitting out of the column etc...
  2. I'd rather have instant than nothing... but if given choice, instant would come behind pretty much any other method of fresh coffee. My first choice will always be the coffee I brew at home with my espresso machine, followed by... Mokapot, French-Press or Turkish.... It all depends on where I am, what equipment I have with me, the time I have etc... i.e. if Camping or travelling.. its the Mokapot or Piccpresso (hand held espresso kit)... But at home, always the Espresso Machine, it comes first by a long shot. As you mentioned, of greatest importance are the beans, but also of extreme importance (IMO) is the quality of the grind - If someone doesn't have a quality burr grinder at home, have the roaster grind the coffee for you (or at point of purchase, supermarket etc). It could be argued that I too am a coffee addict - I limit myself to two cups per day (in the morning) and I really do enjoy those. I also really like my Whisky and Wine, but if left with a choice of only one I wouldn't do without, it would be coffee.
  3. It could be considered a 'cultural' experience... Go into a Lawsons in Japan and we see a load of stuff we've never seen before... we pick up a few things to try out. The same here... there are things in a Thai 7-11 that many will not have seen before. A tourist attraction ??... thats a bit of a stretch... but tourists may well find a visit to 7-11 interesting because of the different products on offer.
  4. You're defensive because you own an MG... But Brit is not wrong... The Chinese took MG and marketed its heritage - it worked. Why are you not driving a Haval or Atto ???
  5. Why this insistence on the projection that everyone else mirrors your failings ??? We are not in the same boat.. not by a long shot.
  6. If my maths is correct the daily average over 30 years would be about 90M3 (90,000L3 ) Which is approximately 585 barrels per day (oil measurement) which is a perfectly feasible injection rate. Thus, the feasibility is there, but the necessity ??? I suspect the reason this method is not being used is because its completely unnecessary and as the water being disposed of into the sea is already within 'standards' there was no logical reason to do anything else... ... of course, that is until the uneducated media fuelled hysteria and China saw a point scoring opportunity.
  7. As needs must, all better than not having any coffee in the morning.... This 'cowboy coffee' seems quite similar to Turkish coffee in that the 'fine grinds' remain unfiltered. Most grinders will not go fine enough, however, a roaster may be able to grind fine enough for you, as close to a powder as possible. IMO, as the coffee being made is very strong its best to use an Arabica bean as this has less caffeine than a robusta. Ideally in a cezve (small copper pot) bring a 1:6 coffee to water ratio to the boil (that ratio works for me, depends on the strength you want)... pour off the creamy-froth into your small cup, bring to the boil again and pour off the creamy-froth into your small cup again, repeating as necessary. You end up with a rich and earthy coffee, which may be slightly bitter - If you want to sweeten slightly, add sugar at the brewing stage not afterwards. Once finished there will be a sludge remaining in the bottom of your cup. With the explosion of coffee shops in Thailand, I'm surprised there are not more Turkish Coffee shops around - Perhaps this is due to the 'starbucksification' of attitudes towards what a coffee-shop should be. Digressing slightly, cold-brew coffee is another method, but not one I can say I've tried much at all.
  8. Mainly obtuse. Oh don't know... I saw a-cute one the other day...
  9. It seems there is at least one type of vehicle in Thailand that doesn't suffer 'brake failure'...
  10. Do you suffocate in rooms in the west, when it's cold, the radiator is on and the windows and doors are closed ????
  11. Not quite... plenty of people do not get involved in these crazy incidents because they... - Ride carefully / defensively - Are trained - Are not drunk - Don't ride at night - Are not speeding - Pay full attention - Don't use their phone while riding - Wear a helmet Thats not to suggest catastrophic events do not happen... But, they could happen to you as a pedestrian, they could happen while riding a car. But... the point you make that riding a motorcycle in Thailand is a death wish, is wrong... when the underlying cause of the vast majority of motorcycle accidents is one of the above, when those factors are removed motorcycling here is far safer than the aggregate stats would suggest.
  12. The motorbike hit a speed bump which caused him to lose control..... the motorbike is to blame.
  13. Google 'meat'... and you'll get Neụ̄̂x Neụ̄̂x' waw transliterates to 'meat of cow'... and to highlight that, google 'chicken meat'... Thats not to suggest you are wrong, ordering anything here with Neụ̄̂x and you'll get beef because Thai's find a way to shorten everything in their language....
  14. We all should... but we want our cheap products and have simply allowed ourselves to be come dependent on China.... ... Do we really care about the environment ???.... then instead of knee-caping ourselves and purchasing from the nation which contributes 33% of the greenhouse gasses our governments should stop making deals with China... of course everything then gets more expensive and we don't want that.... ... But at the same time we shouldn't be buying into the utter hypocrisy of China, virtue signalling from one of the most polluting countries in the world.
  15. From a country where Covid 19 has been reported to have started from the crap they eat, ? Its typical S#!thousery from the biggest political hypocrites in the world...
  16. Initially, I also wondered why they are not drilling and injecting in the subsurface formations (deeper than aquifers of course)... I assumed it was because the volumes are too large. This has been a long time coming, so I'm not sure this issue has been rushed at all... I'm not sure its an issue at all, Its just being 'made an issue'... Japan is simply disposing of the waste water which has been treated to radioactive levels similar (and less) than any other nuclear power plant in other areas of Japan and the world.
  17. PG Tips or Yorkshire Gold ?? Some people are well into their tea... Its not something for me, but I understand that they may enjoy the brew so much that they take it to greater lengths to achieve something their tastes can better appreciate.
  18. Why is it snobbery if someone enjoys one thing over another such that they go to greater lengths to improve their experience ?
  19. Agreed.... for coffee to be as good as a coffee shop it takes a good espresso machine.. I have a Mokapot in the UK, as there is no point in getting a full on machine for the time I spend there. The Breville's higlighted earlier in the thread are good enough to make high quality espresso... the weak link of the Coffee shops is the quality of beans they use... When brewing at home we have a choice of our own beans and roast level, whereas the coffeeshop itself may chose based purely on economics... IMO, the best coffee I've had is the one I make from my machine at home. I am of course bias, but I am also highly critical when I have a new bean and don't get the extraction right.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, the word 'Neụ̄̂x' means 'meat'.... in much the same manner when in other parts of the world and we have a 'meat kebab' it can be lamb or beef, or a mixture of both.... perhaps that translation has some similar etymological basis... That said: In Thailand.. 'Neụ̄̂x' is commonly used to refer to beef, but there can be exceptions... But for certain... 'Neụ̄̂x' Steak... does not specifically mean 'Fillet Steak' regardless of what google translate will tell you !!!!...
  21. I can't advise on instant... Although the Moccana 3 in 1 Cappuccino wasn't completely awful if insistent on going the 'instant route'. The answer to your question depends on how much time and money you want to spend vs the quality you enjoy. A Mocapot is an excellent option - it still requires decent prep and to be watched carefully to avoid the bubbling and spurting. IMO - Easiest option for simplicity and price vs quality is perhaps the basic Nespresso machines if looking for Espresso coffee and wanting to make Espresso based drinks...
  22. OK, sorry I spoke. Apologies for my snarky response... no call for it..
  23. Mokapots are also good... I use all three... French Press, Mocapot, Espresso Machine... (depending on where I am). I also have a Wacaco Piccopresso for travel... All serve their purpose but IMO a decent Espresso machine makes the better coffee. That said, Espresso is the hardest to get right... the recipe is vitally important to the quality of the extraction (recipe = bean / roast / grind / amount / extraction time) - its a bit of a faff and somewhat of an art.... I can understand those not interested in the hassle. The easiest of course is the French Press... Not yet discussed is the Turkish Coffee brewing method, which is also one of my favourites (although I don't have the equipment in Bangkok to grind my coffee as fine as needed, neither do I have the Turkish coffee Pot)... and its hard no to cardamon in my coffee too... (which is common in Turkish coffee)...
  24. Thats kind of like saying you prefer spy-wine cooler to a fine Brouilly... or Regency to a Glenfiddich.. ... a Toyota Altis to an S-Class Merc ... thats fine.. everyone has their individual tastes. Instant definitely serves its purpose.. I had Moccana Cappuccino the other day because there was nothing else on offer... It wasn't bad, no complaints from me.... BUT.. its not like a well made coffees is just 5% better than instant... its 50% better IMO... the difference is significant. Just my opinion (I find the debate interesting), I just don't see that instant can compare at all.
