Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application
ubonr1971 replied to dbrenn's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have a work permit. But we have our small business running through my wifes personal name not a company structure. I hope this doesn't cause issues as I assume most farang work through a company structure. Our business is legal and we have yearly licenses issued from the government authorities in our province (in my wifes name of course) BUT its not a company structure. I will be guttered if this turns out to be a show stopper for me. How do I get my name on a yellow book? Do they care about the duration? Should I be going to find a cheap rental right away??? Its not easy getting a yellow book actually -
Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application

Hi, I was reading the document checklist 'Evidence required to apply for naturalization as a Thai / foreigner. Im confused about some of the items on this list. Can anyone help? - N.o 2.... copies of resident certificate. What is this referring to? Years ago as a teacher I think I had to pay immigration 500 baht for a so called resident certificate. Is this what they want? - N.o 5...... copy of household registration for 5 families (applicant, husband, wife, children). My wife and child are on the blue book and Im on a yellow book. So when they see I dont live in Bangkok but Im applying at Special branch opposite Central World will this be a problem? Do I need to be on a yellow book in central bangkok? - N.o 6...... copies of passport. Do I need to show them old passports dating back to when I first started to visit Thailand in 2006? - N.o 10..... Proof of tax return for past 3 yrs certified by the Revenue officer. Actually I get my tax done by an accountant who prints out a statement from their system called 'E-Filing'. Should I be taking all the documents to the tax office and get them to stamp it? Or should I be actually going to the tax office to do my return there instead? - N.o 11.... Evidence of the company, the shop where the applicant works, such as the trade registration, commercial registration, cert of registration of shareholders / VAT....... My wife and I have a small business but we decided not to have a company structure. The business is in her personal name and she pays taxes 6 monthly in her name. Does anyone know if this will be an issue? - N.o 13.... Work certificate for me signed by company binding authority and seal. We dont have a company. Will they accept a letter from my wife on our letterhead? - N.o 17.... Certificate of legal age according to the laws of the original country in which the applicant has nationality...... Are they talking about a standard birth certificate? I just had a look at mine and it says 'Extract Certificate. Birth registered in <state / country> It looks like its an 'extract' but hope they accept this? - N.o 18.... Certificate of the applicant who expressed his intention to renounce the original nationality from the embassy of the consulate of his nationality when being allowed to naturalize as a thai....... I read all the posts on this forum but still a bit confused. Do I basically prepare an affidavid and have it signed at my consulate? Is this correct? If you are able to assist with any of the points above or ALL I would be very grateful thanks -

I go to Bkk once a month and noticed several times when walking past the BTS stations/ streets around Nana area that there are many African guys standing there staring at people walking past. One time I noticed a few of them arguing really loud at each other and the thai seller close by was not impressed at all. Non racial tone here. Just interested in why they are there everynight. Anyone know?

I had a quotation for building insurance from a broker. I was wondering that sort of margins they add on top? If I were to go direct to the company maybe I would save a lot of money if I keep renewing every year. Thoughts? In the interests of full disclosure please advise if you are a broker when replying thanks

We purchased land that doesn't have a house on it at the moment. We will probably build a house next year and obtain planning permission via the brown envelope method This year are we able to erect a concrete fence without having to ask permission from anyone? What is the legal fence height or does this vary from province to province? The concrete fence idea seems ok but a bit ugly. Good for privacy but thats about it. Having driven all over our province I noticed some people have fences where one can see right inside the yard and others have 100% privacy. What about you? What about a carport? Do I need to get permission for that if I do it this year?

What country are you talking about here especially in regard to the last sentence. Sounds like America or another nanny state. FYI on thailand.... people burn <deleted> whenver they want and whereever they want. In fact I live in the cbd of a small city. Some idiot near us burns plastic at 2am sometimes. I had to laugh at your narrative 'all permit holders'. I dont think the local farmers would understand what the hell you are talking about... -

So true, the neutral face is amazing here. We had an issue with a neighbour. My wife didnt want drama or confrontation. So different to the west -
Purpose of dogs in traditional Thai households?
ubonr1971 replied to RamenRaven's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thais are hopeless when it comes to dogs. A guy at my childs singing class tells me he has 2 dogs. I asked him if he walks them. Oh no, they have a small yard A cafe near us has animals inside for kids to see. They have a small room with 8 dogs and no aircon. I asked the owner does he walk them. Oh yes he says. I think not -

Maybe your comprehension skills are lacking. Please read the original post.... or amend the statement to 'please provide us with his name and address....' -

ubonr1971 replied to ubonr1971's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
no you dont understand. Its not his land. He visited our land and burnt our green waste without asking us for approval -
''Pyromania is a type of impulse control disorder that is characterized by being unable to resist starting fires. People with pyromania know that setting fires is harmful. But setting fires is the only way they can relieve their built-up tension, anxiety, or arousal'' Over several years I walk my dog on government land that is a huge area and has many trees. People sometimes illegally dump their green waste and other <deleted> and I noticed a guy always going and burning it off. He also sometimes clears vegetation and burns it all up as well. I slowly got to know this guy and thought he is a friendly chap. We added LINE accounts and chat sometimes. He sometimes sends me photos similar to the one below. He said its his 'hobby'. Recently there was land for sale and he was the first to tell me about it. Many buyers were interested and he knew the owners. We ended up buying it and I put it down to this guy helping us a lot. The sellers hired a tractor and cleared all the land resulting in 3 piles of dry green waste on our new land. My wife did tell him a month ago that we wanted him to teach me how to burn that off safely. This morning I woke up and he sent me 2 messages. First one asking my permission to burn the 3 piles stating that the conditions 'were perfect' 2nd message stating 'I apologise very much for not requesting permission from <my name) in advance' He sent me several photos of the fire. I was a bit <deleted> to be honest. I wanted to be there.... I told him he is not allowed in the future to do anything on the land without having my approval' I assume it must have been frustrating for him to see the 3 piles of unburnt green waste for so long. Akin to a porn addict who has a laptop with no VPN/ wifi connection. Im planning on building a house on that land and think I dont want to be on the wrong side of a pyromaniac. Once again today I have to take a deep breath and say my daily mantra 'I must lower my expectations', 'I must lower my expectations', 'I must lower my expectations'

Your last sentence is correct. Its hard to know which way to go actually. Both options (usufruct and registered lease) mean that the wife can sell the land although both options still give me legal rights. Many posters above talk about the usufruct being nullified upon divorce. I dont know what the case is with registered leases in this regard. If we were to move the chanote to my daughters name on the chanote, then I think PEA electric account cannot be opened. Water account can. I should ask PEA if its possible to put in mothers name. Its all a bit confusing
