  1. Trouble is the version of the Super Bowl aired here in Thailand doesn't have all the cool commercials that the companies pay a fortune to air. I'll just wait until they're available on YouTube a few hours later. Often they're the best part of the broadcast.

Thanks for reminding me why I should watch it at home. Clearly, there will be many, who don't practice good NFL watching etiquette.

I'm pretty certain you should be having a tailgate party at Thae Pae or something.

That's a great idea. Perhaps, since you will be dropping your date off near Amora about that time; you could save us a spot. Of course, you could just bring him along. I doubt anyone will notice at 0600. on a Monday morning.

  3. Kind of pretentious to live in a foreign country and claim you don't care about exchange rates. Ironically, you are also living in a place, where you could easily get chased down the block for five THB. Crossing HK is a risk.

I've lived here for 15 years and don't care at all what the exchange rates are. I get paid in baht so why would I?

well, for one, they raise the prices on imported goods, as soon as the THB weakens. That can mean higher prescription, food, clothing, gasoline, utility, etc..costs.

  4. If your assets are all cash, guess what; you are invested in that currency, comrade. If you don't have any cash, except for pension day, then, yes, you are who I was talking about. Recall, I said "passive," which would indicate not totally consumed with it, but of course, this being TVF, you took my words out of context. To put it another way, either you can only eat fish, or you have the ability to learn how to fish, as well as teaching others.

  5. figure about a 6:22 am kick-off +/-.....perhaps the Sugar Bar on the outside of the East side of the moat, just south of LK...they seem to put a good effort into US sports before....don't know about beer laws and stuff like that. I think it would be live on Thai TV, so a real comfy, economical bet would be to have your own party with the sound down. Hardcore fans often do that, even when the audio is in English. UN Cafe will likely be recommended, but not by me....YMMV. The cheaters being out is already a victory. #29 for Carolina went to my Uni, with a little help on his Maff.

  6. and when it's that bad a taxi-car is better than your own, because parking it will be a beach.

I got rid of my car a few months back for various reasons, and for the first time in many months, had to do a trip to Home Pro. Went down in a tuk-tuk, but didn't want to breathe the aroma of a zillion cars, so after loading up my trolley, asked the desk to please order me a taxi. It took over an hour for the taxi to get through the traffic and back into the city.

Saturdays will be a 'stay at home' for me in future!

you could have "yellowed" for 20 thb from the moat to HomePro, and taken the TT back....Any idea what the delivery fees are like from HP? I believe they told me they would deliver a toilet for free, even if it was a 1700 thb special. I've taken a 2 meter ladder on yellow, and seen just about everything on there including live animals, but yeah, Saturday is crazy on HD Road....The volume of traffic seems to be up 200%+ over when I last lived out there in 2008.

  7. I'm Thai , Normally, students who graduated from Montfort, Doctor, pilot, engineer are favorite careers for Mc students. Yupparat collage ,Judge, Soldier,Police , Lawyer, Governer are favorite careers for YRC .

That's an interesting contribution. Civil Servants tend to breed more civil servants, and their pay puts limits on their opportunities, for most. Of course the truly exceptional can achieve whatever they desire, in both America and Thailand. Knowing some of both groups is practical. However, once a student is enrolled in Uni; where he went to "High School" soon becomes the distant, meaningless past, as far as academia is concerned. If there are clear tendencies for the MC students to go to certain unis, while the Yupparaj students go to others, than that is something to consider. I went to "free" public schools (government schools) in the US, and then a well respected public University (government university). Plenty of former private boarding school students from New England filled the seats around me....either one was prepared to learn; or not, and I've never met a Uni grad in the US that even mentions, where they attended secondary school on their resume, except for a reference to graduation year.

    Good point.

Also people are getting older and less willing to walk. Need to park as close as possible to their destination.

It might be interestingly shocking to see how many expats base their dining decision on close parking availability.

  10. They have their pension checks too, so at worst case would be in the same boat as those who simply relied on their pensions. What if your pension check wouldn't even cover the property taxes on the family home? What if you needed medical care that was better than the free stuff?

  11. Yes, retirees should be more conservative with their investments, but they should still follow economic indicators, global markets, and exchange rates. The blobs are getting .5% interest on their visa money, while others are getting 2-3%. My parents have been retired for 24 years, and make more now than they ever did working, investing passively in sectors and conservative mutual funds. It keeps their minds sharp, too.
