  1. I think you meant to write that in the Filipino vs Thai lady thread ??????????
  2. And that wasn't from strangers it was from ones U knew ...eg money lent?
  3. Some people are like that though they just wanna talk I was walking here in Sydney yesterday and walked up to the harbour foreshore area about 6am and a old American guy came past me walking too and he said to me beutiful day and I replied back..he then stopped and started talking about the lockdown and did I get a vaccine etc.....now thought silly thoughts from Pattaya( even though I'm in Sydney) are going thru my head... is he trying to con me etc ...well after 5 minutes or so talk he walked away and I noticed him walkon and into a probably 10 million dollar house by the harbour Now I know it's not Thailand/Asia but would it make a difference if he said hello to me say in Pattaya or Khon khaen or whatever should I ignore him
  4. I guess if I understand you correctly it may be the farang is " distancing" himself from the family/friends of the wife is because he think if he gets too friendly he may get " used" .. there's a fear there I imagine
  5. But as you get older it seems to be different eg you don't really show as much hyper vigilance I guess you could say because your much wiser I'm really talking about these farang say shopping in Khon khaen Tops supermarket or somewhere and they are waiting for their wife & another farang says hello to them and they ignore them because of fear they could be asking for money or trying to con them in some way....that's a extreme example but it happens
  6. But in that time U have mortgage repayments...bills to pay .renovations .holidays.....and those who had kids in that time a lot of expenses ..easy to say save $1000 a month much harder to do I reality
  7. What about a Pre nuptial agreement before marriage ? Then you won't lose everything I'm not sure if it's valid in Thailand but this is what I'm planning on doing in Australia BEFORE retiring to the Phillipines with her
  8. $967.50 per fortnight with telephone..electricity supplement added around 50k Thai baht per month $967 X 2 payments Eligible from 67yo ....allowed to own your own but no other assets although obviously you won't be able to rent out your home whilst in Thailand I guess otherwise you won't get the pension ...you' d have to rent it out in cash I guess Even if you owe your own home in Australia how do pensioners live on that ? Better in Pattaya
  9. There is a guy at my work the same as you staying extra 18 months during covid instead of retirement from Australia to the Philippines so he can "cash" in with the extra work...had to tell him at 67yo he has wasted another year when he has only about 15 years left if that ! So you wasted another year ...not sure your age but put the count down on now for between 78 & 82
  10. I remember about 20-25 years ago reading up & meeting many farang particular from Australia living on their aged pension. Many were living very good . But can it be done nowadays? I'm looking at the aged pension from Australia and it's around 50,000 baht a month..of course you would have to have the 800k in the bank to meet the immigration requirements. Not sure how much the other countries pay their aged pensioners but ...who here lives on their solely aged pension and any difference from before in terms of living in Pattaya I know I can be done in other parts of Thailand but I'm particularly interested in Pattaya living .
  11. I always wonder what this fearful myth is of " be careful" acknowledging other farang ...they want something whether to borrow money from you or tell you a sorry story or whatever ...be careful saying don't hello back...they will bite you etc etc ..they re obviously after something I recall once walking with a newly arrived friend in Pattaya and we are walking in East Pattaya and I'm buying a coconut he is standing on the street a taxi pulls up and the farang passenger is seen talking to him my stupid friend is ignoring him before it drives off...I asked him what was going on..."oh he was pretending to ask for directions to a hotel...but probably wanted money ...I read it on the internet .. don't talk to stranger farangs !! Just bloody bizarre some of you lot ...fearful and anxious over oh they could ask to borrow money ...oh they could tell me a sorrowful story ...in reality they probably won't ...you know why . Because it's a urban fear myth Now as I'm getting older and some farang talks to me or acknowledge me passing by or whatever I will talk or acknowledge back ...so what if they ask to loan money I will say no...there's no need to ignore someone ...just because they could ..they might...possibly ask for a loan ....just ridiculous.. some of you must walk around Thailand with your head down making no eye contact hyper vigilant to other farang ! I remember being in a small beer bar in about 2010,in jomtien and saw a wallet in the toilet ..I knew it was the guy that was sitting with his mates nearby so I walked up politely ..hi ...I said .. I was just about to tell him before he looked at me with a sour arrogant look.. and said " do I know you !!! I recognised his accent as my own Australian and I stopped for a minute before his friend sitting next to him said something like I was trying to sell real estate... before this old C used his hand to shoo me off . So I walked back in the toilet and took the wallet Moral of the story don't be arrogant
  12. you live in thailand i know,im not sure where ,i think you said pattaya? why not go to the gym?
  13. This was the crossing outside Tukcom in south pattaya ,they dont seem to stop ,even farang driving who should know better
  14. This topic may have been covered in some ways but now im getting over 60 plus had 2 work colleagues die in the last 3 months im thinking how valuable life is. One colleague Bob was 68yo and kept talking about retirement,he died at work on the nightshift,(hospital wardsmen)just went to have a nap on his break and never woke up,that was in August,he kept saying how he would be travelling Europe when he retires blah blah blah, supossed to have retired last December then it was July then it was this December, well now he is gone ,left probaly a million in retirement funds ,his kids will get it. Now my question is mostly related to those over 60 ,those old farts like me,or should i be politically correct ,and say mature aged guys ,the thing is,are you aware you will probaly die between 78 & 83yo? Are you doing everything to enjoy this time you have left ? are you going to get your goals completed ,enjoy that time you have left ? I said this to a work colleague last night whilst working, he is another oldie who wont retire at 77yo,still fit is a hospital cleaner ,hasnt taken a sick day since 1992 and proudly boasts about his 2 million in retirement funds that he pays into and how he is going to travel the world when he retires..... ....yeah right he was extremely offended last night when we spoke of Bobs death ,i said to him your 77 what are u planning o do in the next 6 years you have left ? He was shocked ,what do you mean he says puzzled ? I said mate you are 77 you dont have much time ....to a puzzled look by him before he stormed off . and thats where this past few months have made me aware,i have about 20 to 25 years left,if that,if im lucky ,that means not wasting it The point im trying to make is some of you either forget or just think your going to live forever ,im sorry to be blunt ,but as the financial planner said to me the other day ,most ill live up to about 83yo 84. Its a sad i guess morbid thing to talk about ,i used to try to talk about this to my late father who used to get angry ,but the point is i have planned to about 80yo financially and after the deaths of my 2 colleagues i have decided that the next 20 years i have left to , Grow old disgracefully ! sorry if this topic offends or hurts some of you but its no use pretending its not going to happen
  15. I wont get the government old age pension at 67 if i buy a investment property, you can only own your own residence.
  16. I find it a bit strange a guy say with tattoos wearing say tradies clothes shouting at people in a supermarket to not line up with him and wearing glass mask when he has most probaly been on a construction site using dirty toilets to sit on
  17. I did , at first i thought she was going to abuse me but then i realised she wasnt so grabbed her arm to help her up ,now until i got involved no one helped her (she was unmasked but well dressed elderly lady} until a younger lady came running over to tell her to be careful of........yes Covid...from me !????
  18. They say draw down 4% of your fund capital each year is safe . As for those youtube videos on farang living on pennies in paradise there are now hundreds
  19. Tell me about it,i work as a wardsmen in a major hospital, moving a guy going for radiotheraphy in a whhellchair, yesterday his family followed telling me they wouldnt travel in the same lift as me and their family member in case i had covid ,i have been vaccinated and wearing a mask,so i said ok fine do what you want to and wait upstairs for the busy lift ,they will be waiting a while though???? On another note those of you in Asian countries such as Vietnam ,Cambodia etc are you noticing a difference in peoples anxiety eg being aggressive if you get close etc
  20. With this Covid and lockdowns in Asia have you noticed yourself or others displaying Anxiety type symptoms? I was in Aldi supermarket yesterday and it reminded me of when i was in Pattaya a few years ago when I saw a midde aged farang walking thru the Soi's shooing away flies and shouting to motorbikes going past. And then sitting outside the coffee shop in Tukcom Pattaya watching a farang shouting at cars not stopping for him at the crossing I have noticed people especially here in Australia with high anxiety and reading another forum where even Thai people displaying "anxiety" type behaviour ,EG using their T shirt to cover their mouth & nose then running past unmasked farang . Im vaccinated double and whilst i still wear a mask i dont go "berserk" or let things such as unmasked people trigger my anxiety Currently we are in lockdown in Sydney Australia ,unfortanetely whislt i respect peoples anxiety i have experienced a lot of idiots including grown men with anxiety,eg a guy yesterday in the supermarket shouting at others to stay back whilst wearing one of the glass face shields . Another a few weeks ago a elderly lady falling down in the street and people leaving her there , crazy stuff
  21. you still travelling a hour each day to work? Do you have to get the train each morning? not something i would like to do at 80 but i guess if you enjoy it
  22. Do you have a old age government pension available in the USA ? and are you able to get it overseas in thailand ? I did recall meeting one American guy a few years ago living in the Phillipines who was a young 55yo on the disability pension so i guess it works the same?
  23. you retired in your 70's ????? i think personally thats way too long but maybe you enjoyed it but way toooo long for me. There are guys at my workplace in their 70's ,i think they will never enjoy retirement. I always think about one guy back in 2001 at my workplace he was 74yo and i remember his then filipino wife coming in to bring his lunch and shouting at him to ask the boss for overtime on weekends ,i imagine he would be dead by now....and she probaly would be rich????
