  1. I seriously doubt anyone will get 500k of battery life out of ANY li-ion battery packs before it starts dropping cells... From personal experience, you are lucky to get 100 charge cycles before a pack starts to drop cells, effectively killing the pack... And this is with hand-matched, high-quality packs and not cheap Chinese packs.. Li-ion packs are not designed to replace a single cell either, so your looking at replacing at least one or more 3, 6 or 9 cell packs if this happens... This is the same issue that popular hybrid / electric cars face when start to get some age on them...

My experience with epower comes from flying giant scale RC airplanes that have been converted from gas to electric... Some of these beasts pull 300+ amps using 96kwh packs, swinging 34"+ props... The RC crowd have been pushing this envelope for years and the truth is that reliability and longevity are just not there yet...

  2. Just jump in and see what happens.

    Its called adventure.

    Adventures are for the young.

A drifter in his sixties with no long-term family relationships in Thailand will regret the decision to settle here.

Family means everything in Thailand, your position in the family defines who you are.

Without one you are nobody... or as the Thais say, "farang tao-nahn eng."

It appears the OP is a single westerner... What does Thai family values have to do with? If he is comfortable alone so be it... He can always marry into a Thai family if he desires...

Soooo much negativity on this thread makes one wonder why any of you moved here in the first place...

I lived and worked in Thailand for many years, then rotated back to the west a few years ago... Since then I have looked at many countries to move to after retirement... I can live pretty much anywhere in the world I want, but have just moved back to Thailand for good.... Shazaam Gomer, it ain't that bad....

  3. It was the beginning of the end the day it opened......didnt it open when only two businesses were ready?

I went for the first time in the run up to xmas. I was looking for shoes. Findig or Bata sorted but they are not there just some cheap charity affair. No shoe shops.

Ok i need to destress where is the coffee shop must be at least 4; haha i didnt find one!

What a depressing place it was. I was one of 50people and felt like everyone was staring at you.

I will never go back its the biggest waste of many peoples money i think i have seen in chiang mai.

    Sad for the lessees inparticular.

    Have you ever been there?

do you just jump in on peoples posts with out first reading them,he stated he went there before xmas, duh.

It's a valid question if someone says that can't find a coffee shop in Promenada... There's only about 6 that I can think of... whistling.gif

I ate at Duke's at Promenada yesterday afternoon around 5:00pm... I was the only customer...

This mall is fighting an uphill battle being so close the Central Festival and not having an anchor department store...

  4. Don't dump her, just cheat back.

Cheating is a Thai national pastime, good for all ages and all social classes.

Then why have a GF in the first place? Better to just have a few giks that you don't really care about, other than sanook... This western concept of fidelity really is overrated...

  5. The question I was trying to ask is whether or not there is a particular country(ies) whose men in general terms are more tempermentally and dispositionally compatible with Thai women than others.

Has anyone noticed that men from a particular nationality seems to get along with or understand Thai women better than most others?

Just meant as a light-hearted discussion topic.

Really hard to generalize as priorities are different based on socio-economic background of the Thai lady and her prior experiences with both Thai men and foreigners...

At the low end of the scale you will find Thai ladies who want someone to "take care"... This statement makes the hair on the back on my neck stand straight up and warning bells to go off... They really don't have a preference as their priority is baht...

Then comes Thai ladies that have had bad experiences with Thai men and think that foreigners make better mates... Until they find out this is not the case either based on the behavior of the foreigner... Drink, smoke, carouses with prostitutes... Sometime they get lucky, sometimes not...

Then come ladies with a few years under their belts, have a decent job / income and are looking for the same thing as similar aged foreigners... A friend, lover, travel mate and someone to share their life... IME, these ladies will seek out Europeans or Americans as their disposition is more suited to LTR with one lady...

Huge generalizations, but just my experience...

  6. I've recently been in this position. It's tough if your boss is in say HK, singapore or nyc and expects results and you aren't allowed to openly confront people even though you have be brought in to sort out a mess. My advice is to get them into a room and talk about the issues quietly. Unfortunately yelling sets off all this behind the scenes gossiping that you described. In my biz if they can't handle being yelled at then they shouldn't be in this job...however it seems it doesn't apply to thai.

    OB

Been there, done that... It's a lose, lose situation when you have been given the responsibility to turn things around, but not given the authority to do what is necessary...

  7. wife, child I would say chiang maai. it has all you would need

    +1

    Absolutely agree.

Chiang Mai is the nicest place I've ever lived. It has everything a family could want -- except beaches.

Having lived a year amongst the constant tourist hubbub of white sand beaches , for me Chiang Mai

offers a much better life and I can fly to white sand beaches in Cha Am or Hua Hin as often as I like.

Chiang Mai has modern infrastructure, very good roads, great hospitals, lots of good schools, world-

class shopping malls, unbeatable supermarkets with excellent customer service, a no-hassle police

force and a friendly immigration office. You would be hard pressed to find any place to compare.

Having lived 26 years in Japan, Philippines and Thailand, and having studied retirement destinations

all over Asia, I'd be interested to hear any serious recommendations from anyone who's lived at least

5 yrs in Chiang Mai and knows a better place to live -- just out of curiosity, coz I ain't leaving here...sick.gif

It appears we have done the same research and after being stamped in / out of over 50 countries over the last 40 years, I call Chiang Mai home... thumbsup.gif

I also was a monk in a thai temple in the UK for many months and again was never ill but had to battle with the local government food hygiene inspectors about the food preparation and storage of food.

    Quote of the month.

    24ct gold!

    ^ Priceless.

OP: I thought during your time as a monk it would of been explained to you that nothing is permanent, we all get to die at so splint. Even Lord Buddha experienced this.

Note to self. There's one born every minute.

    What is 'so splint'?

I like this forum, great the way it lets you express your disrespect of members, Buddhism, Lord Buddha and Monks. Have the forum rules been dropped for 2015 in place of freedom of speech?

So, your original post was serious? I thought you were taking the piss... But this response is comedy gold...

  10. I often wonder why foreigners are so desperate that they would take on a Thai woman that no Thai man would touch with a barge pole... Not only that, but then take on their offspring and extended family too... Why?

If it's frequent carnal delights that you seek, there is no shortage of opportunity in Thailand... I know that's crass, but it's the reality of Thailand...

If you're seeking a LTR and considering your options, then take bowerboy's advice, make sure she's a hot 20 year old...
