For those unfamiliar with Lazada history: Chinese Jack Ma billionaire founder and chairman of Alibaba until 2020, and member of the CCP bought a controlling US$1 billion stake in Lazada in 2016. "With the investment in Lazada, Alabama gains access to a platform with a large and growing consumer base outside of China .... and a solid foundation for future growth in one of the most promising regions for commerce globally." April 12, 2016 https://www.techinasia.com Might remember also that Thailand in 2016 was controlled by the NCPO military junta.

I'd like to see the statistics on this. And "young" doesn't exactly describe an age. "According to the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, the number of road deaths are highest 8n the 15-24 and 50-80 age groups." (my bold). Jan. 27, 2021 by TDRI, "Retest senior drivers for road safety" Furthermore, "Policies must be based on sound and comprehensive information.....Providing an accurate database is the responsibility of the Department of Land Transport."

Thailand’s new approach to Myanmar crisis a shot in the dark
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Makes no sense for the Myanmar junta that is the cause of the upheavel, displacement of people and deaths of civilians expected to join the initiative. This idea sounds more like a Chinese initiative to suppress the rebellion in favor of a junta-controlled government versus emergence of any kind of democratic society on its southern borders. -
Generally do you know how honest the management is, ie., not to abuse any gift or donation by diversion for personal use? Are there public organizations that could oversee your donations to the school to insure their delivery. Whatever you do give (no cake and ice cream, toys, clothes?), you should do so very publically if you want to ensure it's not abused.

Medical Council Asked To Probe Thaksin’s Doctors
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This refers to some kind of political code of ethics. Doctors generally adhere to a medical code of ethics such as: prescribe only beneficial treatments according to their abilities and judgement refrain from causing harm or hurt live an exemplary personal and professional life There are many variations of the above but I find none of them require adherence to any political ideology or loyalty that supercedes patient care. It is also a bit hypocritical for a government elected through the support of a military junta appointed senate to preach codes of ethics. -
Not at all except when someone obfuscates dialog with off track topics. I agree otherwise regarding acceptance of foreign labor should be welcomed in Thailand both from economic and fertility viewpoints. Trafficking into Thailand wouldn't exist if Thailand government accepted stateless, refugee and otherwise undocumented foreigners into the Thai workforce. Why not make illegal trafficking into a legal migration? Especially when the world's most powerful economy the US continues to punish Thailand for its decades of failure to solve human trafficking into Thailand.

Birth rate is the number of live births per 1,000 women in the total population. The fertility rate is the average number of children born to women during their reproductive years. Tracking fertility rates provide for more efficient and beneficial planning and resource allocation within a particular region. At 2.08 children per woman, the fertility rate in the US has been continously slightly below the global average of about 2.4 children per woman over the last decade. Compare to Niger of almost 7 children per woman in 2023. Niger followed by almost 20 African nations above 4.0. www.statista.com Thailand needs more African women in Thailand to save the nation's collapsing population!

Rudy Giuliani files for bankruptcy after $148m defamation verdict
Srikcir replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
The award is compensatory and punitive as determined by a jury in reaction to Trump's MAGA cool aid pushed by Giuliani against innocent two poll workers and their families. And no sooner than it was announced, Giuliani immediately defamed the plaintiffs in public again. Now being sued again. What is ridiculous is this man's behavior. -
Climate crisis: Thailand promises to cut carbon emissions by 40%

Never mind advancing the wealth of the nation through a higher GDP per capita. Easier to snag more foreign direct investments with no promises in return. -
INS Kadmatt’s unprecedented naval move shakes South China Sea
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Ratanakosin-class corvettes are a class of two corvettes that were built for the Royal Thai Navy in the 1980s. HTMS Sukhothai (FS-442) was a corvette of the Ratanakosin class belonging to the Royal Thai Navy. She was launched on July 20, 1987. The primary role of the INS Kadmatt is in anti-submarine warfare. Seems a mismatch. Will there be a guest submarine to be sought? -

Revitalizing Pattaya Reefs: 3D-Printed Coral Homes Boost Marine Ecosystems

In other news: "How Are 3D Printed Coral Reef Projects Revitalizing Marine Biodiversity?" https://www.3dnatives.com the Hong Kong Bay Conservation Project uses 3D printing and a blend of quarry aggregate and cement binders to produce artifical reefs 3D printed artificial coral reef in the Maldives using ceramic material similar to calcium carbonate found in actual reefs 3D printed corals for microscopic algae growth using a need of polymer gels and hydrogen infused with cellulose nanomaterials. North Sea 3D-printed reefs units consisting of 70% sand and 30% puzzolan cement. Great to see Thailand adopting 3D technology to its vital sea areas. -
Energy management giant calls for quicker green energy transition
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
During PM Prayut's regime he instituted use of palm oil to be used in power generation with the goal of artificially maintaining high palm oil prices in Thailand. Not carbon neutral. Two-thirds of Thailand's power generation uses natural gas both domestic and imported. It currently has 27 coal power plants. Existing fossil fuel plants must be decommissioned to achieve maximum benefit. The National Energy Plan of August 2021 sets goals and action plans for achieving net carbon neutrality by 2070. This includes at least 50% of electricity from renewable sources, etc. Sept. 2021 "Air pollution continues to kill: does Thailand's National Energy Plan offer hope? https://tdri.or.th/en/ The answer currently seems to be "doubtful." -
The government migh also use one or more of Thai travel insurance companies for travel claims processing in lieu of the government, avoiding the government to expand its services having no previous experience and costs of administration. In practice the government might use its 50 million baht budget to bulk purchase the travel insurance, ie., from a Thai travel insurance coalition thst CA provide the highest amount of coverage for the least cost. That then benefits Thai travel insurance providers and the Thai government.

Supreme Court asked to probe convicted Thaksin’s privileges

A Supreme Court that ruled Gen. Prayut's 2014 military coup and national directives issued through absolute power was legal? -
It seems to me that all we've heard is intent to pass the law taxing foreign income brought into Thailand by Thai citizens and resident foreigners effective Jan. 1, 2024. But I don't recall the bill going to the House of Parliament for even its first reading for a vote, much less a second reading/debate that would follow if amendments or objection is raised. And all that assumes a quorem. Even after House passage mustn't there be approval by the Senate and publication in the Royal Gazette? At this late date, it would be reasonable to defer this bill until 2025.

It wasn't a balance by former PM Prayut who sided with China's rejection to the judgment by an international tribunal in The Hague permanent court of arbitration that in the South China Sea (July 2016, theguardian.com ) rocky outcrops claimed by China - some of which are exposed only at low tide – cannot be used as the basis of territorial claims. some of the waters were “within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines, because those areas are not overlapped by any possible entitlement of China”. China had violated the Philippines’ sovereign rights in those waters by interfering with its fishing and petroleum exploration and by constructing artificial islands. Does Srettha support Prayut's decision while he campaigns Pacific rim nations like Japan for closer trade relations? What is Srettha's position regarding the Kuril Islands dispute between Japan and Russia over the ownership of the four southernmost Kuril Islands? His warning is about as poignant as warning of climate change and increasing air pollution in Thailand.
