    its unsafe

did you arrive that conclusion by looking at your crystal ball?

But If you happen to have a copy of the result of an engineering report which proves that its structurally unsafe , please share with us.

Otherwise your conclusion of it being unsafe is just a speculation.

Being a purchaser or not is irrelevant and off-topic.

Not so long ago the area around the pier was  relatively uncongested.

true but that has to do with flip-flops of the City Hall and tourism ministry who decided to turn the area into a Chinese tour bus parking and maneuvering area. The arrival of hoards of Chinese and the street vendors are the reason for congestion and it's only gonna get "better"!

I'm pretty sure the general /Pattaya public where not aware just how tall this building was going to be until it was "too late"

I agree. however, It's not the public's responsibility to constantly inspect and  notice the lawfulness of projects and  their exceeding heights, exceeding widths etc. in and around Pattaya. That solely is the responsibility of the engineers with calculators in the planning dept. to report their bosses at the approval stages before ground-breaking. Their bosses will take these reports and make a decision or recommendation to higher ups  whether this project should be approved or rejected.

The height issue should have been caught in that stage.

The height WAS one of the several issues since the developers were instructed to chop off the top 5 floors at some point but that was never followed by the developer or not too many people know what exactly transpired afterwards. The rest is obvious.

Today there is a total silence and uncertainty going into the 5th year soon since the halt.

but it was the blocking the view that brought out the so called "tree huggers" who called for the structure to be investigated

if the towering structure wasn't noticed by the public and it wasn't for their subsequent protest, the smallest detail of this project's 150 meter height would have escaped the inspector's and the authorities' radar and gone unnoticed, right?:cheesy:

.why the infractions weren't noticed as the build progressed or until it topped out is anyone's guess

please i am begging for your wild guess! will you do that for me sir?

If you can't, I will have to refer you to my previous quote regarding the "$5 calculator"

A $5 calculator could have figured the result of 50 floor X 3meter would equal to a whopping 150meter height and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that the first 20 floors of this 50floor project would block the 50 meter hill behind

    Oh but finish it anyway

it is finished but rough. and will stay there no matter how much you or anyone hates it.

Why don't you question why it was allowed and by whom, instead of questioning my motives and blaming me for stuff that doesn't hold water.

A $5 calculator could have figured the result of 50 floor X 3meter would equal to a whopping 150meter height and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that the first 20 floors of this 50floor project would block the 50 meter hill behind..

Now it's there and too late.

    Enjoy your view!

Perhaps you mean that you want the lawmakers to rubber stamp the decisions made by "low-life politicians and greedy used-car-salesmen-developers"

    I never said that!.

However, a finished building would be a better sight than a dark and concrete ghost of a tall bunker.

My issue is the flip flops, lack of experience, the inadequacy, the ignorance  of the authorities who run your city.

Same people who approved the building also built the half-arse marina and half-arse beach erosion projects and  totally screwed them up leaving them half-finished, crappy and rotting  and guess who has  to put up with that!.you sir!

Same people will dig the whole town for years, burrowing like a gopher to bury the electrical wires underground and possibly mess that up too, judging them by their track record of city works in the past and guess who will suffer  the horrendous traffic that will cause! you sir!

what difference does my interest in waterfront make, if you daily have to put up with  the consequences  of their management flaws.Next time if the sewage mixes in the rain and rises above ground  after (each) 5 minute downpour and your feet come in contact with the parasites, bacteria, chemical and toxic crap, you will remember this post!

My personal interest is that they have totally destroyed Bali Hai from the pleasant local area that it used to be.

It was great that most tourists turned around at Soi 16 on Walking Street and headed back towards the Beach Road.

Palm trees, swaying breezes, local fishermen and a relaxed atmosphere.

Now it's an ugly concrete mess with little to no atmosphere at all.

On the other side, I have contacts on both sides of the development. But since no one here has a stated interest, no need for me to solicit nor post any info.

you were doing good up to that point

But pattayadude seems really emotional about it and makes post after post, even after he states that he won't post any more about it. even after he states that he won't post any more about it.

I don't think that is your business. You getting personal.

    Stick to the subject

Tell us about this fierce fight.

since you and watcharacters characterize my posts "a fierce fight" and "personal interest in the outcome" ,you must have been following it right behind me throughout my posts and why? what' is your "fierce fight"?

I explained mine and will explain with the following example so you both get your head out of the sand.

You don't have to be the citizen of a country in order to fight for their cause.

Che Guevara was not a Cuban, but died while fighting for Cuba and for their cause, whatever it may have been.

My fight is the dirty beaches, sewage and soon diseases, trash mounds, rats, overhead dangerously hanging wires, corrupt officials taking bribes and trashing "YOUR VIEW" by building illegal high rises and abandon them unfinished for decades while in courts, greedy developers, blocked sidewalks and being forced to walk on the road and so on...

    what is your fight? me?

    What are you? a judge?

    Don't waste your time.

There's no way that building will ever be finished.

it is finished to completion but not presentable.

you need to put up with that view, thanks to bunch of tree-huggers who caused to stop it.

people who invested millions of dollars won't give up without a fierce fight.

that fight could outlive some of us.

the world is full of skeleton buildings waiting for a decision to be made by a group of low-life corrupt  politicians and greedy used-car-salesman-developers.

    welcome to reality.

The youngest son, the ex mayor now has a cozy job and an office in the Prime Minister's (Head Junta) Office

The oldest son is also on board as 'advisor' to the Prime Minister

With the upcoming election, looks like the Junta wants the Chonburi votes which the Kunploems can deliver.

Current Administration at City Hall can backpedal or leave things in neutral and have who ever inherits the next office take care of it

If a mafia boss (currently doing 25 years in can) can install his son as a mayor of a city like Pattaya from jail,

And this new mayor allows this out of place and; allegedly illegal 50 story building / in front of a sacred hill/allegedly too high and wide/in violation of building codes/too close to sea level,

And this 50 story building gets topped off, escaping all "radars",

And the military (illegally) overthrows a prime minister in a military coup-d'etat  who was accused of abusing her powers who also happens to be the daughter of an  ex-prime minister who was ousted and escaped the country  with billions,

And this building is found to be illegal by the military junta and construction was halted since 2014,

And the junta who took over the country is still in power for a whopping 4 years,

And this ex-mayor who allowed the "illegal" building gets a "cosy job" in the "head junta's" office,

And rumor has it that the ex-mayor might get re-elected to be the Pattaya's new mayor come next election,

And rumor has it that once elected, he will allow the "illegal" building to be completed,

The bottom has fallen out man!

2 1/2 years now since this thread started. Nothing has changed - still there, still abandoned.

Even if they start again, how much extra cost will be involved in repairing the damage caused by weathering. How long before the building becomes unsafe?

I believe Northshore condo was abandoned for a lot longer under similar conditions.

Concrete can withstand tough weather for many many years with only minimal damage.

My estimate would be 15-20 years before the elements start causing irreversible damage.

If somehow this building was sorted out and the condos are ready to be sold again after a period longer than 20 years, I wouldn't buy it if it was offered to me free

    Shim won't work....

"A shim is a thin and often tapered or wedged piece of material, used to fill small gaps or spaces between objects. Shims are typically used in order to support, adjust for better fit..."

homonyms are words with more than one meaning. Many words with multiple meanings exist in the English language. Technically, almost every word has a multiple meaning.

Shim actually makes a perfect sense. It is the gender between two genders just like the shim between two metal pieces :coffee1:

  15. what's with these  authorities who (pretend to) run the City Hall these days???

Do they all of a sudden realize that the projects were illegally built  after they were completely built? REALLY!!

Can someone explain this or this is business as usual in LOS?

or  is this the improved and the advanced "Corruption 4.0 "?

I think their left hand perfectly knows what  their right hand is doing!

Isn't the sick homeowner who intentionally leaves the main door wide open to lure in thieves just to hunt to shoot criminals for a personal vendetta  also guilty?

    C'mon!

80% of Thai women are ugly. Check your eyes.

beauty is a subjective thing, but given the % of obesity nowadays i dont think that 80% observation is far off.

Under normal circumstances, in a crowd of all ages and sizes,I think 10% of women are pretty and only 2% are very beautiful.I don't really care about the remaining 88%.

I notice this when I go to a mall.During my daily 30-45 minutes of walking around in it, I probably walk by about 200-300 of them especially on weekends in an afternoon "rush-hour". I hardly turn back to take a second look. I also noticed the  percentages I mentioned above change in their favor if the subjects are  Russians and in a different venue where somehow the crowd is of women between the ages of 18-28

I understand that beauty is subjective as most if not all will eventually find a man(if they haven't already found one) who finds them "pretty".

and my thoughts on the 88% will go out of the window.

  17. Generalizations such as "most ladyboys  are thieves/criminals" can't be further from the truth. There is no data on ladyboy population  therefore claims such as " most ladyboys are thieves/prostitutes/criminals" without the knowledge of their population and percentages  is only speculation and  a pure discriminating  approach. Some of themdefinately are criminals but most of them can't be as only a very small percentage of any group of any nation get involved in crime. Most people are law abiding and peaceful.

    My take on the headline:

As soon as I read it, I immediately thought "a very large group or ladyboys in Pattaya were rounded up" and I don't think I am the only one thought this way.

    That maybe unfair

unfair is what was done to that little girl by a pedophile 2-3 times her age who took advantage of this obviously needy or underprivileged  teenager from suburbs pressured to have sex by another criminal who lures young girls for sex on internet.

These two will have plenty of time to think how they screwed up their lives for a few minutes of pleasure and  for a few dollars (metaphorically) while behind bars.
