  1. Open the Grab app, click on "transport" at the top. On that page, in the "where to" box at the top it says "Now" at the far right. Click that, it's a drop down menu that will allow you to schedule in advance.
  2. Bolt and inDrive are cash only in Thailand, AFAIK. You can add (some) credit cards to a GRAB account.
  3. At Superrich, you'll convert GBP to THB then THB to USD. Two transactions.
  4. "But if you could somehow add gold and silver to your investment profile, it might be possible to hedge against these fluctuations. Fortunately, this can be done through Lexi Capital. By allowing you to invest in physical silver and gold, your IRA is buffered from geopolitical crisis, inflation and other uncontrollable scenarios." lexicapital.com/our-story/ ????????
  5. That's what I used to think..... https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/cities/thailand
  6. Also in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. We use it in CM often. Odd that they would be in CM, BKK, and Phuket but not in Pattaya....then again, there are so many local fiefdoms in Thailand, who knows.
  7. inDrive, perhaps?
  8. Thanks much. I coincidentally saw him in the neighborhood today and obtained his card.
  9. If XBB is indeed on its way to Thailand, sounds like we're pretty much back to square one. This study says that the BQ and XBB variants are "barely susceptible to neutralization" by the vaccines/boosters and existing monoclonal antibody treatments. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/14/covid-news-bq-xbb-omicron-subvariants-pose-serious-threat-to-boosters.html
  10. Nice pictorial of Nancy's memorial service by Chiang Mai Citylife. https://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/citynow/social-life/live-events/memorial-for-nancy-lindley/
  11. Will you be staying in a hotel this time? Why not make a hotel reservation, even if just for one night, and ask the hotel to provide the letter? Seems worth a try.
  12. So sad. Really, really nice lady.
  13. Starting to plan my escape from the smoky season now. Would Kuala Lumpur be an option for escaping the smoke? From what I can find online, the smoky season there is generally July-September so doesn't coincide with Northern Thailand's smoky season.
  14. What is your hesitation in ordering from the place you like (Siamburis) since they deliver to CM? Is it just the shipping fee?
  15. Shall we talk about Nigeria? Starting next month, individuals will be limited to the USD equivalent of $225 per week in ATM withdrawals (not to exceed $45/day.) The most allowed as "cash back" at a Point of Sale terminal will be $45. "The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed Deposit Money Banks (DMOs) and other financial institutions to ensure that weekly over-the-counter (OTC) cash withdrawals by individuals and corporate entities do not exceed ₦100,000 and ₦500,000, respectively." and "During the first anniversary of Nigeria's digital currency—eNaira, Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the CBN said the bank wants to achieve a 100% cashless economy." https://www.benjamindada.com/cbn-cash-withdrawal-limits/
  16. Not disputing that money was taken from your account but I am wondering how you link that to the Lazada purchase? In the one bank transfer I've conducted with Lazada, I didn't have to provide any of my bank details. I went into my own account and authorized my bank to transfer money for a one time payment to the Lazada payment service. The only thing Lazada and/or the vendor would see is that a payment was made that corresponded to an order number.
  17. Might be just me but I interpret that as the two managers attempting to be polite to you, as opposed to just telling you that they're kicking you out of the gym. Whatever the case, I've been in that gym and you can find better for less than what you were paying so there's that.
  18. Slightly OT but.... For those who have embraced the QR code payment method, how do you know you are actually being charged the advertised price? You can't "read" the QR code for specifics before the payment, can you? What's the recourse if a vendor quotes one price and then the QR code payment results in a different price?
  19. You may know this already but you can ask WISE to "tag" your account so that it only goes through Bangkok Bank on the transfer. That's a reliable way to ensure the "FTT" code, if that matters to you. Caveat: it may take hours instead of seconds to completed the transfer. Mine are normally completed within 6 hours using a "tagged" account.
  20. Apologies for reviving this old thread.... Does anyone know if the Green Pharmacy that used to be in KSK relocated? Haven't been successful in finding anything from Dr. Google.
  21. I think your statement (bolded by me) is not factually correct. "Also, personal income taxes are not required for retirees in Thailand. Note that you can't work in Thailand while on a retirement visa." https://www.liveandinvestoverseas.com/country-hub/thailand/taxes-in-thailand/ https://thaiembassy.com/faq/do-retirees-pay-income-tax
  22. Quite probably correct because retired expats are not required to pay income tax in Thailand.
  23. You need a boarding pass as the re-entry permit desk is after security. Just plan for a little extra time in advance on the date you fly.
  24. Presumably the person in question was transferring a fixed amount of his home currency each month, which was enough (in most months) to convert to 65K THB upon receipt by the Thai bank. When the exchange rate dipped, he neglected to increase the amount of his monthly home currency allotment and that resulted in missing the THB minimum. (That's how I interpreted the post.)
