And you never have to deal with Thai Immigration in Thailand. When I was doing the "every two years get a new O-A visa" tactic, I didn't even do 90 day reports. (Still required, I know, but unless you get arrested there's no consequence to skipping them, as I can attest.)

Indonesia cuts visa on arrival for Russians
TheAppletons replied to Celsius's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
"But for those fleeing the violence – or the draft – there’s trouble in paradise. Balinese authorities this week called for the end to Indonesia’s visa-on-arrival policy for citizens of Russia and Ukraine, citing a spate of alleged incidents involving misbehavior and various examples of visitors overstaying their visas and working illegally as hairdressers, unauthorized tour guides and taxi drivers." https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/18/asia/indonesia-russians-ukrainians-fleeing-war-intl-hnk/index.html -
Re-entry permit at CNX (trip report)
TheAppletons replied to TheAppletons's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It's 3,800 thb for a multiple re-entry permit at both immigration and at the airport satellite booth. -
People who are extending what was originally a non-OA visa are required to have health insurance.

The immigration officers did take my boarding pass from me but whether that's because it was in my passport book or because they wanted to see it.....I don't know. (If you read my "trip report" linked above, you'll see that I was quizzed extensively about where I was going, why was I going there, and when was I coming back.) I was not required to show a boarding pass to anyone before arriving at the area where the re-entry permit desk is now located.

It's a completely different place than the line where you get your exit stamp. Again, it's before you pass through security (and right across from the entrance to that line.) The main line where you get the exit stamp is after security.

Last week I obtained a re-entry permit at CNX. Took about 25 minutes (and should have taken less time.) It's just before the security queue (it used to be after security but before the immigration officer departure lines.)

"According to the police investigative report, the 16 suspects divided the responsibilities, with some taking charge of “mule” bank accounts while others were responsible for transferring money from the mule accounts to other bank accounts." Mules and pornographic websites should never be mentioned in the same article.

If you buy a Xiaomi, the replacement filters are available on Lazada. A genuine Xiaomi replacement filter will cost 800-900 THB (we just purchased one a month ago).....knock-offs can be had for half the price but the reviews I've read say they don't work as well. The manufacturer's recommendation is to replace the filter annually; additionally, the machine has a sensor that tells you how much filter life is remaining each time the machine is powered up. No app required for our model (Mi 3H) to function properly.

No, the time purchase an air purifier was two months ago. Even with an air purifier in house, I left for KL four days ago. It's rained every afternoon I've been here and, as one might expect, the air is significantly better than most places in Thailand.

Based upon hazy recollection of years past, it normally begins a day or two early and ends a day late. If that holds true this year, Songkran festivities in CM would likely be 11-16 April. (Officially, Songkran is 13-15 April.)

Flew out of CNX today and obtained a multiple re-entry permit at the airport prior to the flight. - The last time I did this, the re-entry permit booth was past security (on the left) but prior to the immigration officer departure line booths. Now, it is prior to the security line facing away from your sightline if you are looking at the security line (i.e., if you are facing security, it's behind you.) Easy to miss if you aren't looking for it as you start moving into the security queue. - What started as one form that I filled out in pen (and provided passport photo) to one immigration officer, turned into three immigration officers and another duplicate form printed out that I also signed. The duplicate form had the image of my passport information page in a thumbnail photo at the bottom. - My non-O from Chonburi province was the subject of great interest. I was asked if I used to live in Chonburi (yes), when I moved to Chiang Mai, why was I going to today's destination, how long would I be gone, when would I be returning.....quite the lengthy but not aggressive questioning. I correctly replied (I guess) that I filed a TM-30 when I moved to Chiang Mai, I produced my last 90 day report from Chiang Mai, and was asked to write my address on a separate sheet of paper, even though it was on the form I completed to start the process. Every page of my passport was scrutinized....twice. Also, the senior officer present showed particular interest in my previous, expired non-OA visa stickers. - At about the 25 minute mark, I casually remarked "you guys know I'm here to catch a flight, right?" and that seemed to provide the impetus to wrap things up. I did receive the re-entry permit, with a receipt and the correct change. - By contrast, every other time I've done this drill at CNX, it was a 5-10 minute paperwork exercise that was quite perfunctory. Not this time. (Side note: security line at CNX was quite inefficient. First time at this airport I've had to take off my shoes to go through security.)

I thought healthcare in Thailand was supposed to be cheap?
TheAppletons replied to Startmeup's topic in Health and Medicine
I recommend Bangkok R.I.A. group for blood work - they have a lab in CM and I took the "General Public" package that includes: Complete blood count testing (CBC) Fasting blood sugar (FBS) Hemoglobin A1C screening Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL, LDL screening Liver screening (SGOT, SGPT, Alk.phospatase, Total Protein, Albumin, Bilirubin, Globulin) Kidney screening (BUN, Creatinine) Uric acid testing Urine analysis Hepatitis B virus screening (HBs Ag, HBs Ab, HBc Ab) (And I added a pancreatic enzymes test for a small extra fee.) Results emailed within 36 hours; the cost was under 3,000 thb. (They have more comprehensive packages as well.) The website lists their Bangkok location. https://www.brianet.com/en/map-and-contact/ -

So will choose to continue receiving refunds or will you choose the "opt out" alternative? (I wonder if they are required by law to offer this option.) "Wise has automatically enrolled a trial group of customers in the UK into receiving fee refunds. If you’d like to stop receiving refunds, you can opt out at any time."

Does Thai beer really have preservatives in it?
TheAppletons replied to Everyman's topic in Thai Food
Beer contains alcohol and hops, both of which are preservative in nature. Doubtful that additional preservatives would be added since that would increase cost and likely impact the flavor. (Before someone chimes in with "but you don't know that, do you?", the answer is no I don't personally know that. No one outside of the brewing industry is going to be able to give the definitive answer but for the reasons listed above I think it's unlikely.) -
"Some 200 farmers showed up at Chang Phueak Police Station in Chiang Mai’s Muang district on Friday demanding to know what had happened to their money. San Pa Tong Agriculture Cooperative claims that more than 100 million baht of its deposit with a reputable bank has mysteriously disappeared. There has apparently been no sign of the money despite three attempts to negotiate with the bank." https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40025194
