  1. I was looking at this recently. Lots of repos at present but a lot of pitfalls. Many of the vehicles are in poor condition. Some or many repos are snatched back and may not have green/blue book. Transfer of registration/ownership could be a hassle. Motto Auctions seem good and have best website in English. The websites of the other auctions not so good. https://www.google.com/search?q=bangkok+car+auctions&newwindow=1&sca_esv=27b456ea1f260627&sxsrf=AHTn8zorJ-S3uPeW0CzDaZecWqPn5NE87Q%3A1738569854396&source=hp&ei=fnigZ6nbFMignesPxdLRmAc&iflsig=ACkRmUkAAAAAZ6CGjlOzVHDHbZLeRHrV2XGRN4XJREEy&oq=bangkok+car+auction&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6IhNiYW5na29rIGNhciBhdWN0aW9uKgIIADIIEAAYgAQYywEyBhAAGBYYHjIFEAAY7wUyBRAAGO8FMgUQABjvBTIFEAAY7wVInD5QAFj5JHAAeACQAQCYAeQDoAGvE6oBCjE2LjAuMS4wLjK4AQPIAQD4AQGYAhOgAtcTwgIMECMYgAQYExgnGIoFwgIHEAAYgAQYE8ICAhAmmAMAkgcKMTYuMC4xLjAuMqAH2Hg&sclient=gws-wiz&lqi=ChRiYW5na29rIGNhciBhdWN0aW9uc0jMkcbC7ICAgAhaHBABEAIYAiIUYmFuZ2tvayBjYXIgYXVjdGlvbnOSARBjb3Jwb3JhdGVfb2ZmaWNlmgEjQ2haRFNVaE5NRzluUzBWSlEwRm5TVVJTTmpnM2QwOUJFQUWqAVgKBy9tLzBrNGoQASoQIgxjYXIgYXVjdGlvbnMoADIfEAEiGziM-eatyZA1fhIrn3Gc8BMjugo7NwxHA9IGnDIYEAIiFGJhbmdrb2sgY2FyIGF1Y3Rpb25z-gEECAAQSA#rlimm=9983072583511449652
  2. Write a short letter describing what you have said above as reason for entry. Include your contact details etc. and invite the officer to call you if any questions. This is what I do when my Cambodian GF comes to visit me in the UK. She then gives it to the immigration officer on arrival and no issues at all. They never call me. It would be a good idea to buy return tickets (date changeable) as she may encouter issues with the airline check-in when departing Bangkok.
  3. Open air smoking? Even burning incense at a shrine in Benjakitti Park, Bangkok is no longer allowed (picture from Saturday 1st February 2025). What next? No more PM2.5 to ban smoking anywhere?
  4. RIP Mr American. Hope you were living your best life until the end. As I've said before, as an experienced big bike rider (in the UK), there is NO place for big bikes in Thailand. The road conditions, other motorists, animals, pedestrians, U-Turns and other situations are just not suited to big bikes. Sure, if on the Autobahn, Motorway or Interstate, then yes, but NOT on Thai streets. I'd love a big bike here but just know, even at moderate speeds, it could easily turn into a death sentence. 160cc is plenty on the roads in Thailand (bigger off road bikes such as CRF300 acceptable). Just my opinion. I know others here will oppose this, but look at the outcomes of big bike riders. Not good.
  5. I'm not a smoker, never have been, never intend to be and hate tobacco (and weed) smoke. Since at least 2007, I have been against the draconian anti-smoking laws where even designated smoking places were provided. If there is a segregated area, either in an airport, restaurant, hotel, pub or workplace, then why make smokers into pariahs? There is no need, they are only, potentially, harming themselves and others who choose to also smoke. Bringing back smoking rooms - in my opinion, why not?
  6. Sorry, didn't see that. Just wanted to add my personal and recent experience.
  7. You will read many posts stating that obtained TDL with yellow book, pink ID etc. That is the case years back however land transport office now wants COR.. Depends on the DLT office. Morchit/Chatuchak would not accept Yellow Book/Pink ID, however Phra Khanong does. I cannot get COR as never do 90 day reports as always in/out of the country. Consulate stopped giving "affirmation of address" in December 2023. I was able to renew Thai DL with Yellow book/Pink ID just 3 months ago.
  8. Unless the tickets are refundable, then definitely DO NOT buy before a visa is issued. A friend of mine's Thai wife was recently rejected for a UK visa and they had bought non-refundable tickets for April. He is hastily making a new application (the original application had insufficient documentary evidence). Hoping they will be succssessful this time. My Cambodian GF and I are going to Canada tomorrow. We booked flights 11 months ago, well before her visa was issued, but I selected refundable tickets - albeit not the cheapest, but with better seats and more baggage. We are hoping to go to the USA in August (visa application underway), I booked refundable tickets already that have good travel times and seat assignments in fact, I was able to use mileage for business class inbound paying only the taxes, but the return was full fare.
  9. I met Karl in 2020 and became good aquaintances. We keep in touch often but rarely see each other due to his, and my, travels. Karl's channel show's a side of Thailand that many, if not most, expats never get to see. Off the beaten trail up a mountain is mostly what he does. We'd discussed a few adventures and finally, last year, he joined my GF and me in Nakhon Si Thammarat (Jungle man video) and Khao Sok (Wonders of Khao Sok video) for two separate adventures. We had amazing days, both days. He's an inspiration to get out and explore more. Karl's channel: https://www.youtube.com/@karlsthailand/videos
  10. These Thai snake catchers are fearless and very talented in dealing with serpeants. I bet the king cobra was hissed off though! Had a snake in GF's house a few years ago. Called the local catchers, they arrived within about 20 minutes, and meticulously located it (behind a shoe rack and wardrobe), caught it, bagged it, and took it away. Good service.
  11. Easy to source online. Minimal cost. Just 238 Baht. OK so from overseas, but likely to find in side Thailand. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/diymore-vk-162-g-mouse-remote-mount-usb-gps-navigation-dongle-google-earth-windows-linux-i4426780463-s17709874446.html?from_gmc=1&fl_tag=1&exlaz=d_1:mm_150050845_51350205_2010350205::12:21201297771!!!!!c!!17709874446!250698944&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkoe9BhDYARIsAH85cDNEoTy9PdUQmPy7hKa1E1DhZ0zMSJtgamOoJBR44HrqyL3IIwgktLcaAgJ9EALw_wcB
  12. Totally agree that it makes no sense. Helicopter was well off the air corrider for helicopters and way higher than it should have been. 350ft instead of 200ft maximum.
  13. There is talk online that the helicopter pilot was Jo Ellis a transgender person. https://www.smerconish.com/exclusive-content/living-to-serve-living-as-myself-a-transgender-service-members-perspective/ Just looking at the BBC who list plane and helicopter occupants, but only name two of the three people on the helicopter. Jo Ellis not mentioned. Neither was it stated who was pilot flying. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwyjpwxx22ko Not seen any official notice of the pilot flying the helicopter but why would Trump go off on DEI like he did in his speech? Is this pure speculation or is there really truth in this?
  14. How many Thais would be willing, or able, to learn Russian in order to become a tour guide for Russian clients? Few I would reckon. Surely, working as a tour guide for foreigners should be allowed and permitted, subject to obtaining a work permit. What benefit would a tour guide be to others if they didn't speak the same language!
  15. Never listen to a nagging wife urging you to hurry home! Tragic events for this couple and their families. RIP.
  16. "Rent don't buy" is often written on this forum. For those who really want to make their life in Thailand (or anywhere), renting will always be insecure. Landlord can increase rent or refuse to renew tenancy. I was a renter in London for last 9 years until I found and bought a flat there last year. As a condo owner in Bangkok for last 15 years, I certainly wouldn't want to be a renter here unless I knew it would only be short term and accepted eviction at end of contract (or even before). Even with a Thai contract, it's best just to move on and move out. No point wasting money on lawyers. Hopefully you'll have better luck next time.
  17. I'm looking for an appointment at CW 3rd week of March. I've used the online booking before no issues. Yesterday, it showed nothing for January or February and no option to go beyond that. This morning I logged in and there were appointments available for several times on 27th February. That was all. Last year, I forgot to make an appointment. Got there early and was about 10th in queue for L desks (retirement). Went down to get bank letter from Kbank and, even though I was first through the door, the dopey bank clerk took over 30 minutes to do it. My queue number passed so I had to get another ticket (can check what number in queue from QR code on queue ticket). Was still done and out by 11am but would rather have a 10am appointment for certainty.
  18. Exactly. I use that expressway entrance often. @KhunLA route is correct. Head up Phaholyothin from VM and just after Soi 1 on the left there is a U-turn with the PTT station on the opposite side. Do the U-turn and you're only a couple of hundered metres from the expressway entance on the left. Went to pickup friends from BKK last night and, even with traffic, it only took 45 minutes. Went to Pattaya last week and that was just 1hr45 minutes from that entrance. Straight line. Easy trip. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@13.7691272,100.5405555,3a,75y,192.94h,79.23t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sQl5eWvSyJN9sVCZxYtgPkA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D10.771407843347049%26panoid%3DQl5eWvSyJN9sVCZxYtgPkA%26yaw%3D192.9429341859633!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDEyMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
  19. If the number of illegals coming to the UK is alarming, then that is just the tip of the iceberg. Multiply the number of those successfully gaining asylum by 1-4 people (family members such as wives and children), then that's going to cripple the country. Figures suggest that 60% of those seeking asylum are actually granted. The UK general public have no idea of how bad the situation could be in the next 5 years.
  20. It say's she's on bail. In that case, they almost certainly have her passport.
  21. This is tame compared to some motorcycle riders' antics. Always amazes me, those teens that adopt the "superman" pose while riding their Honda Wave or similar at 120kph on a busy highway.
  22. It appears the rider's view was blocked by the white car they were undertaking (which was lucky to avoid the Fortuner). RIP two young ladies. Tragedy for their families.
  23. I like to stay a VISA Hotel, Hua Hin. Not high end but easy to get about from there. Clean, decent size rooms at a resonable cost. Pool is a little bit secluded but should get the sun. https://maps.app.goo.gl/k1TgUGbtxruGiBUA9
  24. When it's done is irrelevent. So long as you have a lodged submission, even if done on day of a visit to immigration, they are satisfied. As far as they know, you could have been travelling and staying in guest houses or hotels all around Thailand (and, as we know, many small places do not file TM30s for guests).
