  1. Quite disgusting reading. What would be good to know, is how all these assets were acquired and how much she pays, or has paid in tax to the country?
  2. Fortunately their parachutes opened. Unlike the base jumper who died in Pattaya last year.
  3. Just got back from a morning walk along the "beach" at Pattaya. Nearly the whole length of the beach road pavement is setup with food vendor stands. A huge area near klang is setup with stage and stand seating for VIPs. No thanks! We won't be going anywhere near beach road tonight. It'll be total chaos. After a nice dinner for twelve of our group, we will still see the fireworks from another uncrowded point not far away.
  4. Not sure what "Alternative music" is. In my experience, Thailand has a decent amount of live music. Venues open and close and some oldies just keep going. As mentioned above, Saxophone pub (unnofical page - their website appears broken), has good jazz and different bands each night of the week. Normally 2 or 3 bands per night starting at 8pm. No cover charge and food served. If you want Thai style as an "alternative", then any of the Tawan Daeng pubs https://g.co/kgs/hw9P6Te are a good night out. Not just music but stage shows too. The one in Rama 3 is my favourite. Good food and beer too. Again, no cover charge but best to book in advance. Also, Saeng Jan (many venues all over Thailand), offer similar to Tawan Daeng. Don't be surprised if you, as a foreigner, are a minority of one in these places. I've had some good party nights and the Thais are friendly anf fun.
  5. From walking through the door at BKK to international check in desk to security to immigration to Singapore Airlines lounge took me less than 20 minutes 2 weeks ago. This was with a foreign passport. How much faster could it be with, so called, digital ID?
  6. The Base. Has it stopped the AIRBNBs I wonder?
  7. She should talk with the security staff and explain her ailment that prevents her raising her arms. There are werll trained female staff who can easily, and sensitvely screeen her, in private, if neccessary. It is no big deal. Just talk to the security staff.
  8. Office 365 as I need to use Outlook Cyberlink Power Director 365 The benefit to me of subscriptions is regular feature (and bug/security) updates to the software. Recently, Acronis back-up, tried to push an annual subscription on me but no thanks. They still offered purchase (I hadn't upgraded for years), but they made finding and buying the one off purchase very difficult. As for operating systems, when was the last time anyone paid for one recently? Last time I bought an OS was Windows 10 for a self built PC in 2015. Nowadays, buying a pre-built PC or laptop, the OS is inludeded and gets free upgrades such as from Win 10 to Win 11. Expect that to continue.
  9. The Manchester police should have prosecuted immediately the CCTV evidence was shown. It is clear that the alleged perpetrators had brown skin, although the colour of skin makes no difference. A poster above may have alluded that the reason for them not being charged so soon, may have been skin colour. I tend to agree. Now, in the UK, people with brown skin are immigrants, or descended from immigrants. British people are white skinned. So are many European immigrants. Many, or most, brown skinned immigrants are from a different religion than the main religion in the UK. White skinned immigrants are not. These are facts. Not racist beliefs (before any lefties chime in).
  10. 1) The Thai "guide" likely could not speak Russian. Therefore, the Russian tourists could not understand the Thai guide's warnings and instructions. 2) "Forfeits tens to hundreds of billions of Thai Baht". Bulls.hite, if Russian tour guides were allowed, it may well bring even more Russian tourists to Thailand, knowing they can get better tours from a guide who understands their needs and speaks their language. Could make this so called, protectionist commentary rules up. Suck it up Thailand, and licence foreigners as tour guides. Watch the visitor numbers, and revenues increase!
  11. I just looked into my purchase records. In 2010, I bought two 5 ft (UK King size), Slumberland Baron mattreses from Index Living Mall. They've been excellent mattresses over the years. Firm and not too soft for a good night's sleep (many guests have slept well). Combined with Soak&Sleep luxury mattress protectors and John Lewis Egyptian cotton linens and 4.5 Tog Hungarian Goose Down duvets imported from the UK. The mattresses cost 15,000 Baht each 14 years ago. Anything under 25,000 Baht for good quality is reasonable price these days.
  12. Russian, British, American, Australian or European. Number one thing to know in Thailand, is don't <deleted> with Thai security guards (or any Thai guys or motorsai riders or taxi drivers). It will never end well for the non-Thai. Just don't do it.
  13. What others have written is best advice. Passport->air ticket->get to airport->pay fine->fly out. BUT, the biggest worry should be getting from Mae Sot to either Chiang Mai or Bangkok without getting detained. I took a bus from Mae Sot to Bangkok in 2016. The bus was stopped, and boarded by immigration officers checking documents no less than 3 times (they got several Burmese off the bus). And that was before passing Kampaeng Phet. This would be the biggest risk in my opinion.
  14. Anyone coming from the UK and intending on driving a car or riding a motorcycle in Thailand should obtain an International Driving Permit in advance (unless having a Thai licence). You should also carry your UK driving licence. Thai police enjoy stopping foreigners in tourist hotspots such as Phuket, Pattaya and Chiang Mai (I've seen and experienced this). An IDP is only £5.50 and easy to obtain in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/get-an-idp
  15. Using a jet-ski can be dangerous enough. Using a jet-ski in dark? Well that's just plain reckless and asking for trouble. No rentals after 5pm, and all back on shore by 6-6:30pm should be in the rules for these operators.
  16. I haven't read the full thread. Before the site update a few years ago, not only the post count was shown. There used to be a "reputation" count shown too which showed the responses such as likes etc. to the poster. I miss that, as it showed who comments get likes or not. I wish AN would re-instate the "reputation". Was easy to identify the time wasters and troll posters.
  17. Chatuchak would be a rather boring place - just park areas and not much to see. Far better to hold it in the Hualampong, China Town, Rattanakosin, Sanam Luang areas. Would be a great showcase for promoting Thailand. Would totally <deleted> the traffic for a week, but look at the exposure it would bring to the country. They would definitely breach the precious 40 million visitors per year once they did this. Here's a street circuit that would give good visuals and get a 50 lap race in the F1 alloted time.
  18. No. Thais do not attack foreigners for no reason. In my experience, Thais have been very kind to me, as a foreigner, for "no reason". They are very kind, respectful and generous.
  19. I wonder, has anyone here who submitted by email, received a reply or acknowledgement from Kbank?
  20. So, you've never been to the villages or hung around with younger male working class Thais? Being from the UK, and a family of pub owners, even I was shocked on arriving in Thailand in 2000 by bicycle, from Malaysia. Late afternoon, a group of lads in Narathiwat were drinking at a restaurant. They offered me beer (a no-no when I'm cycling). Then, once arriving in Songkhla, it was party central. Walking by the beach each night, picknicking Thais were offereing me Thai whisky and beer. Few farangs around there in those days. When I married in 2002, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, we had 470 guests (on tables of 10) to our wedding party. Each table insisted that I shared a whisky shot. I tried to politely decline but had to sip more than I cared for. I do not agree with your statement above.
  21. If you want to align with British norms, drinking starts at 08:00am. Just visit any Wetherspoons pub.
  22. ...and this is perfectly acceptable? Oh, of course it's a coach, not a car 🙂
  23. The person asking ChatGPT to generate the image must have written a complex and detailed set of instructions. A very good creation IMO.
  24. I used to pay for Spotify Premium. I cancelled it after realising that just about anything I want to listen to is also available on YouTube Premium. On YT Premium, I download the music videos, mixes, podcasts, films, vlogs to my phone for use offline when on a flight. Can also create and download playlists. Of course, there's also access to all the other content on YT such as films and documentarys. All for just 179 Baht per month. Adios Spotify!
