Sounds like a horrible situation. Surely the insurance will deal with the gate issue. Ask the condo owner directly why they want to evict you? Maybe there is more to this story... Many on this forum say "rent", "don't buy". This case is one reason why I prefer ownership, both in the UK and Thailand. Cannot be evicted.

When in Yangon (March 2023) there were quite a few ATMs. In the airport was a line of 3 or 4 modern ATMs from Myanmar banks. My WISE card would not work in any of them, however my Thai Kbank ATM/Debit card worked fine. I was also able to use my UK MBNA credit card (WISE didn't work) in a couple of western style restauarants in the city (to preserve local cash).

Ellen DeGeneres Relocates to the U.K. After Trump’s Election Win
soi3eddie replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Wonder what type of visa she has to live in the UK? As a Brit, I can't just up and go to the USA to live. -
Sad for the Burmese people. I was in Yangon last year and saw no tourists. The Burmese people are struggling financially and for freedom. Of course, in conflict areas it's even worse. Now I see a number of travel YouTubers going to Myanmar and making clickbait headings such as "travelling Myanmar in 2024 is tough", "Journey into Myanmar's conflict zone" and "Entering Asia's most dangerous country". Not sure what to make of it having travelled the country extensively in the past.

Truck Collides with BMTA Bus in Dramatic U-Turn Crash
soi3eddie replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
At first, I thought a bus doing U-turn all the way from left side of road must be wrong. Bound to be bus driver's fault. After seeing the video, the bus driver had left plenty of space/time for the following traffic to react. 100% only the the truck driver to blame on this one. Thankfully no innocent passengers on the bus. -
You Tube Premium.....can no longer pay with foreign Mastercard
soi3eddie replied to Ned's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I got same email. Surprised it took YouTube so long. I switched from UK credit card to Kbank debit card and Google were able to authorise a zero baht transaction. Hopefully when they try to take the 179 Baht next month that will also get authorised. -
Bike rental in HH and some picturesque roads
soi3eddie replied to mrblonde's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
I rented an ADV150 while in Hua Hin in early 2022. Hired it from Mr. A on Hua Hin Soi 61 road down to the beach (near the Centara Hotel). MAP HERE The rate was fair as far as I remember. Good bike and choice of many types. We went up to Pala-U waterfall for the day. The road down the coast to Pranburi and Sam Roi Yot is nice too. -
Aren't there lower classes of cheaper insurance (2nd or 3rd) that will still cover theft (or fire)?

Thailand Woos U.S. Film Crews with 30% Cash Rebate Policy
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
No mention of where the "cash rebate" is coming from. Does this mean that the Thai government will rebate 30% of all spending in Thailand by the production company? Would be nice to hear more detail. Could be a big incentive to film here. -
Mike Tyson's Grueling Training Regimen for Comeback Fight 15 November

It's all about entertainment and money. Netflix are going to do well. Will the punters get their money's worth? Could be either great spectacle or a total flop in the ring. -
Bangkok Adapts 'London Model' for Traffic Congestion Fees
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
TomTom Traffic Index ranks Bangkok as 46th in the world for journey times. Whilst London ranks 1st worst in the world for slowest journeys. London has had a congestion charge since 2003 (now £15 or 660 Baht per day). I drive in London and Bangkok. I'll take Bangkok vs London anyday for driving around. All any new charge will do is cost motorists more and line the pockets of the BMA or Transport ministry. Traffic speeds and journey times will not improve. -
Bangkok plans cycling lanes to ease congestion in key districts
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
They did this in London and it made the congestion greater than ever. Ever since, London traffic now moves at a slower pace than Bangkok traffic. Anyway, who's going to ride a bike to/from work in the tropical heat or monsoon rains. -
If using a foreign debit card, the rate is normally set by the foreign bank. Most UK banks levy a fee of 2.5% also some banks vary from fee free to 3.5%. The Thai ATM bank does not normally set the exchange rate except of the "dynamic currency conversion scam" where they show you the rate. AI Overview Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a scam that can occur when using ATMs in Thailand and other countries: How it works DCC is a service that allows ATMs to display the transaction amount in your home currency, instead of the local currency. However, the foreign bank or ATM provider sets the exchange rate, which often includes a markup or extra fees. This means you may end up paying more than if you let your card's currency conversion do the work. How to avoid DCC To avoid DCC, you can choose to be charged in the local currency of the country you're in. When using an ATM in Thailand, you should always select the option "Without Conversion".

Motorbike Insurance when renting a motorbike?
soi3eddie replied to bbi1's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Exactly. Either you pay for the damage or the 3rd party owner uses their insurance (if they have any) to pay for the damage. Guess who's really going to be held liable to pay? Unless you accept the risks, best not to hire in Thailand. -
Thai Drinks launches 100m baht campaign to boost local tourism
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
That's a seriously big market. Who really cares what bottled water they buy so long as it's safe and reasonably priced? It's not exactly like beer or wine or spirits with different flavours! Good luck to them if they think they'll get a ROI on this campaign. -
Thai Airlines Urged to Boost Flights as Holiday Travel Demand Soars
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What a total load of B.S! Airlines don't need to be told this. They know what earns most revenue and works best for them. Sounds like CAAT just want to earn more themselves by increasing airline traffic.- 1 reply

Thai piano teacher accuses renowned lawyer of attempted rape
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In any western country (and others), the piano teacher complainant would go to the police with her rape accusations. The police would collect any evidence and interview the accused. They would then either charge or release the accused. Anonymity would be preserved until charge and the lady would stay unnamed under law. Presenting a case and evidence by social media and television is not the way to go. Of course, Thailand and their police and judiciary operate differently. What type of "justice" is the lady really seeking? Seems purely financial to me. Meaning, if the accused did attempt rape, he would remain free to offend again. -
PM Paetongtarn Addresses Controversy Over Her Father's Hospital Stay
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They need to investigate Thaksin's stay at the police General hospital - VVIP residence. Really? Most can guess that there wasn't much wrong with him that couldn't have been treated in Dubai. So why did he return to Thailand at that time? Oh, and now his daughter is prime minister. Amazing coincidence. -
Agreed. Data sharing of criminal convictions or wanted persons would be a good start. If entering the USA from Europe, the UK and likely other countries, the US immigration know if you are wanted or have a criminal record. Hell, they even knew 10 years ago that I had lost my UK passport and was travelling on the new replacement. Surely Thailand could also be part of data sharing.
