  1. ^^^

But this is Thailand where the common thief does not have half a brain and a moderately well hidden tracker could go undetected long enough to track the stolen motorcycle down and notify the BIB's to nab the culprits...

And let's not forget Kad Suan Kaew aka KSK which is the oldest and LoSo of the bunch but is still the favorite of us true Chiang Mai expatriots... It has the only food court in the city with tower beer kegs and live music for free in the evenings!... Try to live walking distance to here at first...

  3. There are a number of wonderful moo bans and condos here to suit your fancy... A number of new malls have opened... And I have never had a problem with the air quality... But since you are from Phuket you can easily escape back there for a month (Airasia was direct flights 6 times a day)...

The one thing that will be hard for you to adjust to is a taxi ride from the airport to most of the city is 120 baht with no courtesy stops at travel agents ;-)...

  4. Two non beneficiaries... And to make more official get an ink pad and post your and witnesses thumb prints next to signatures... Also note witness address and phone number on document for easy contact and finally a copy of their ID... And if your really worried about greedy relatives contesting the document you might get a health certificate dated just before the will signing... Over kill but never hurts...

  5. Also in the Platinum Mall, on the ground floor there is a male only underwear stockist there, with some weird and wonderful pants......

Excellent, because I also need to go to Pantip Plaza which is just a few hundred metres away.

I will come up to BKK next week and report my success at both stores...

I think the forum members would appreciate photos...

  6. With major events like heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, etc. one doesn't always have the luxury to 'hop on a plane' and return home for treatment.

I agree - But as I stated I have a couple "pre-existing conditions" - When I had Thai Health Insurance thru BUPA a few years ago and I told them I take Lipitor (which I have taken for over 10 years as a standard preventative of high cholesterol) BUPA came back and said they would cover me but would not cover ANY illness related to a coronary or heart related disorder... Now a few years later I also take Tamsulosin to control frequent urination... I would assume BUPA would also exclude any illness related to my d**k also...

So for me health insurance here does not really work...

  7. i too, recommend registered post, not EMS. in fact you can't do EMS yourself like you can with registered post. i just hand the postman the envelope when he comes round the house. i never have to even set my beer down when i "do my 90-day report". laugh.png with EMS, it's more expensive and you have to actually go to a post office, wait in queue....might as well go to immigration. the P.O. will give you registered stickers, 8 will last you a year. you do have to show your ID and sign for them. they will not give you EMS stickers. and...registered post is quicker than EMS because it does not have to go to Lamphun first.

yes there have been times when it takes 3 or 4 weeks for the return but mai bpen rai as you can track it. i've never once had a return go missing in years.

Can you post a photo of this registered sticker so I can show it to the post office clerk to let her know what I want?... Thanks

  8. You only need a Thai license if you stay more that 3 months. Can get one on a tourist visa, helped a guy a few months ago, just before the more strict test.

Your mileage varies with the international license. You *should* have one but mostly not checked. Probably need one so you can avoid the written and practical tests.

even if the law/BIB may flexible with regards to the license you hold, insurance companies are more explicit and rigid on this matter.
Wasn't talking about insurance but it should be strict about these things, as expected. It's a good reason for someone staying a while to get a local license in the first place.
I know you weren't, but no one has either. I'd recommend, even for the short timers to read the fine print in their insurance coverage before taking control of a motor vehicle.

You take all of the excitement out of living in Thailand coffee1.gif

  9. I have a few pre existing conditions so insurance that I can get excludes most of the major health items... I have opted for a accident policy (3,500 baht for 125K insurance)... My greatest fear and risk is getting side swiped on my motorcycle!... Minor health issues I pay for if anything major comes up I can return to USA and have it taken care of...
