  1. I am renovating an old townhouse in Suan Dok... The electric fuses and such are a a hodge lodge right out of a Frankenstein movie with a total of FOUR overlapping "Ground Fault" breakers one of which is a rather large and impressive box that has "Safe-T-Cut Super Plus" printed in big red letter with dial (I assume to adjust the level of protection?...) and switches all labeled in Thai?... these have been installed over the years one after another... I would like to have the whole rats nest removed by a qualified electrician and install a proper fuse box and circuit breakers...

Can anyone recommend someone who is qualified and is comfortable working with a farrang?

  2. There is a store that sells them in the Night Bazaar. in the same building with McDonalds and Dukes.

Tonight I went and checked out this store as it gave me a legitimate reason to exceed my self-imposed Dukes limit of once a week...

They do not sell any mattresses... just the latex toppers and pillows...

Their 7.5cm king topper they said was made in Thailand cost 26,000 baht...

Guess that's a good deal in the Night Bazaar coffee1.gif

  3. One thing to note... You did not state whether you need a license for a car or motorcycle... But here in Chiang Mai/Hang Dong the police have clued into a new revenue stream at their blockade... If you are riding a motorcycle and only have a car licenses they will ticket you for 200 baht (Many also have the convienent "You pay now?" option)... The car license takes less time but in the long run if you ride a motorcycle get the right license or better both...

Here is a link to a good DIY... But as stated before they have changed their testing...

  4. I would go to Siam Paragon where you can window shop all the different phones and touch and feel them without a store owner bothering you... The Paragon Dept store carries most models and just outside their in the mall is a number of other stores... They show the prices so you can gauge the relative price... Then once you have a model in mind head over to MBK 4th floor... I would start by going to your cell providers store and see if they carry your preferred model... If not walk around and barter with vendors a little.... I generally find with new models there is little if any price difference... But you can ask for a case or ear phone to be thrown in free...

  5. just a update,

rang my visa agent to morning, asking for a residency certicate(drivers licience renewal)

her reply was.... pick it up .at her office tues morningsmile.png

cost ..1500 baht, now thats what i call service worth paying forbiggrin.png

And she did this on the phone, without having your passport, lease/yellow book etc, and two recent photographs?

    thats right,a 2 min19 sec,cell call

my super visa agent, has all the necessary docs etc etc, to execute,

i just haved to turn up next tues morning at her very nicely appointed office, to collect the res/cert , and pay for her outstanding services.as good as it comesbiggrin.png

You didn't need a picture?... This seems odd as the residency certificate I got has my picture glued to it by immigration?... Btw the new office was great... The lady that handles the certificate is a dream I was in and out in 5 minutes with no waiting queuing... I did not begrudge her the 500 baht fee...

It would be awesome if they moved the 90 day reporting out there too!!!

  6. I am also interested to know if you can mail in the 90 Day report<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Is the mail in option still valid?

    Thanks

I'm bumping this up to see if anyone has recent experiences with mail in.

I would also like to know if this is possible and where one would mail it?

  7. For general purpose data usage, it sounds like we should be able to get decent speeds with cellular access.

I realized last night that Netflix and my other premium streaming video services probably won't work on cellular since I don't think VPN can be enabled on a cellular network. I may be wrong about this since I'm just assuming cellular doesn't assign IP addresses to the connection. If it does then I suppose I would be able to watch premium streaming video on a cellular network.

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

    Try Hotspot Shield App...

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hotspot-shield-vpn-for-iphone/id443369807?mt=8

It is free for a few days then if it works for Netflix... you can buy a 30 day subscription for 99 cents...

  8. The cell coverage in a Thailand is great in all those areas... The wifi will be hit or miss... Most hotels will have free wifi for you but they are usually slow or the hotspots are not close enough to your room to be useful...

If you have four people you might get everyone a SIM card with NET 250...

  9. You should look into Truemove H - they have the only big wifi network in Thailand... If you buy their SIM card buy a 30 day data plan from them that includes unlimited wifi on their network... But the wifi just about everywhere here is hit or miss... the internet you get from the sim is usually faster and more reliable... But they have caps on the amount.

  10. Do you see the round pool at the left edge of image?

The building in front of it is the Immunization &Traveler Clinic of the Red Cross.

They are courteous, professional and I have not found any clinic or hospital that charges less for immunizations, including Rabies.

Cant work out where this is so I assume not Chiang Mai where I live!

Maybe we have a red cross centre here too- or somewhere similar that does a good job at a good price?

Chiang Mai has a Red Cross Clinic too and does vaccinations... It's just down the river from the American Consulate..

  11. There has already been a thread on this...

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/727302-new-office-open-for-residence-letter-in-chiangmai/

The new place is great!... gobs of parking and the lady who handles the certificates is all smiles and a dream!...

I do not begrudge her the 500 baht fee one bit!...

I wish they had also moved the 90 day reporting there too!!!! biggrin.png

The only drawback is the sad looks you get from the Myanmar & Laos who are waiting in the heat as the smiling Thai lady waves you right past them into her air conditioned enclosure with out a queue card and you walk out 15 minutes later tongue.png

  12. Notwithstanding budget constraints and letting of work tender timescales, it may simply be a case of contractor availability. Note also the extensive works downriver of new floodgates which finish a few metres short of the Princes residence.

Yes I have rode by those new flood gates... very impressive...

But... Not being a civil engineer I am wondering the logic of building a flood protection system downstream from the city?...

  13. Crestor never worked for me (I had the muscle pains too)... I was switched to Lipitor 20mg... then when I moved to Thailand I switched to bestatin as a cheap local alternative... but found I needed to use 40mg to maintain my levels
