Are gifts taxable in Thailand? Amount of Taxation The Gift Tax rate for the non-related receivers is 10% while it is 5% for descendants or ascendants. For those who are eligible to pay 10% gift tax are offered an opportunity to pay 5% gift tax rate. This is under certain circumstances only. The above said, I think I have come up with what I believe to be a brainstorm idea for those with in-laws over 65 who don't have an income, plus my wife not having an income. Actually the wife came up with the in-laws idea, so credit to her. I gift 190,000 to my father-in-law & another 190,000 to my mother-in-law as they are allowed a 190,000 deductible, (accounts to be open with no ATM cards, so no annual fee for each account. These will be new accounts which my wife of 2 decades will hold, I will then transfer 150,000 baht to my wife's account, i.e. also a gift and is under the threshold amount of 150,000. The total gifted comes to 530,000 and I have 460,000 worth of deductibles, i.e. 990,000 in total, as I am over 65 years of age and can claim 150,000 for age, then 60,000 as a self personal allowance, plus 60,000 to wife as a personal allowance, so 990,000, that's as close to the mil as one can get which suites me, and is legal. What this means is, I pay zero tax, oh and yes, as soon as the money hits the in-laws accounts, my wife can make an internet transfer from the bank (newly set up from the in-laws accounts) to her account, and we can make withdrawals when we fill it necessary via my wife's account. I will keep the 400,000 baht required in my account for the annual marriage extension which has been in my account prior to 2024. More than one way to claw back to what I perceive as a stupid law as we already contribute to Thailand's economy. If anyone foresees a problem with how I'm thinking, please feel free to burst my bubble.

You could be right, I suppose it's all down to interpretation, hence the reason I have created this topic. I might hear things I don't like to hear, i.e. what you are suggesting, however It sounds correct, others will also put their 2 bobs worth in, and we might find an alternative solution. So far, I see I can claim around 300,000 baht as deductions before I start paying tax, that said, might have to look at transferring around 300,000 baht to wife's account and then see what else I can come up with, because the 1st 300,000 baht for me is tax free using deductions. Perhaps the card can be used for say up to 400,000 baht for grocery shopping, petrol for the car etc over a year, providing I don't have to pay 5% that some retailers charge on debit cards, more research required.

There are +'s, i.e. if you just go with the flow. I don't know which country you came from, e.g. UK possibly, do you think back in your home country you would be better off ? It is what it is, there is no place perfect, 40,000 baht a month, I couldn't survive on that if I tried, that's not living. Maybe if you had a few more baht a month you'd be happier, just saying 🙂

Thanks for the detailed information, however it isn't really relevant. Thailand's tax code states any money remitted to Thailand, using a debit card isn't remitting money to Thailand, suffice to say, if you have a Thai bank account and send money to it via Wise, you are remitting money into Thailand and are subject to tax. Using a debit card is not remitting money into Thailand, you are using funds from an overseas debit card, not a bank in Thailand. I am 99.99% certain this is not illegal, it's a loop hole in the system, which I am looking to avoid paying tax legally. So far I have found out that Wise charge 1.75% on any ATM amount above $350 per month, i.e. they allow you two withdrawals up to $350 per month for free, once you go over that, you pay the 1.75% fee. The above said, you don't charge an ATM fee, albeit you could say the 1.75% fee over $350 per month is just that, and ATM charge, then you have the 200 baht ATM charge at the ATM machine for the Thai bank, up to 20,000 baht, so your combined charges would be about 402.80 baht per 20,000 baht withdrawal x 12 = 4,833.60. Now if you require more than that which I would, that could be around 20,000 per annum, so now one has to weigh up what one would be looking at paying tax per annum for remitting money into Thailand. I dare say, everybody gets a slice of your hard earned $'s, now you might say 20,000 baht a year isn't much, but to me, it's 20,000 baht more per year that I am contributing to Thailand and getting nothing in return.

I am looking at ways to minimise paying tax (legally) from money remitted to Thailand from abroad. A friend of mine told me to get a WISE Debit Card as I am with WISE and usually remit my overseas funds that way, but things have changed now. I haven't remitted anything this year and am returning to my home country shortly, so am thinking about ordering one online and picking it up at my home land address. I am thinking if I use my WISE Debit Card to shop, I may attract a fee of 5% at some shops here in the LOS even thought there is no fee charged to the seller, and maybe if I try to take some cash out from the ATM I will get charged a fee of 200-220 on 20,000 baht and then WISE charge me ? Not sure how it all works, so would be very interest to know what members with a WISE Debit Card think and how they use this card and what charges if any they get charged and which stores charge a fee, e.g. Lotus, Big C, Makro, PTT etc etc, i.e. if they accept this debit card, and what charges for withdrawing Thai baht from the ATM's, and if it's only here or at WISE's end as well.

That's unfortunate, let us know what happened after you go to immigration, just out of curiosity thanks.

Thai Girl is almost perfect but are these serious problems?
4MyEgo replied to Cameroni's topic in Marriage and Divorce
Your welcome, checking your phone and saying you have a message isn't moderate to me, suffice to say my wife has never, ever checked my mobile, I talk to a lot of people and am texting a lot, the same applies for me, I don't check her mobile, suffice to say, you either have trust, or you don't, and if you believe women in general, especially Thai woman, are not jealous, then start setting baited traps, e.g. next time your out, and you see a pretty girl, say out load, wow, she is hot, 99% will guarantee you she will let you see her jealousy in my opinion. I say things like that when I'm out with my wife, and she will say something back to me like, you dirty old man, with a smile on her face. That's why I am coming back again to you, but at the end of the day, you are in the relationship, you know the girl, to the extent she will allow you to know her, remember, she is 24, and they are cunning. Parent stories here are pretty much the same, the deficit could be as you say, do as I do when I want a hug, walk up to her, open arms and see how she responds, if she gives you a hug, then all and good, just remember it will you who will have to instigate the affection to get it in return. Thai women know to keep a man, they have to perform, i.e. keep him happy, holding hands, kissing, I think this would all depend on whether your handsome, ugly or older, that said, my wife didn't like holding hands in public or kissing at first, told me Thai's didn't do that (2 decades ago), frowned upon, so I accepted that, once married, she didn't care much what people thought. Bs comes in many forms, but hey, it's trivial regarding her studying, but if it is Bs, then expect more to follow, face value to a degree. DO NOT TRUST, she has to earn your trust, unfortunately most guys trust, that's when they fall. My wife has earned my trust 1,000 times over, as I had baited her for years, even deposited 4,200 baht in her account the other day to pay the electricity, she transferred 1,200 baht back to my account saying the 4,200 baht was for the month before, this months was 3,000. My wallet has always had the same amount in it when I leave it. I trust her, but at the same time, I like to keep her honest, and she hasn't failed me, no reason to, but you never know really, human's can change at a wim. Welcome, yes, no need to go overboard, I see a woman as a partner, I do not spoil her, I treat her with respect, provide her with love and security, she knows what she has to do for me, i.e. treat me with respect, it's a two way street, once you start to go overboard, then you have raised the bar and cannot lower it. Will say it again, only invest as much as your prepared to lose, that said, I have know guys as comfortable in marriage as I have been and longer than I have been, then all of a sudden out of the woodwork, these guys found out that the wife had a separate lover, or was a gambler or, or, or. Don't get paranoid, just be aware and careful, last thing you want is to get hurt and lose $'s. -

If I were you, which I am not, I would be out of there. There is no reason for jealousy in a relationship, yes she's 24, she's good in bed, but you have answered your own questions, but just haven't realised it yet because you're in the relationship. I have been married for nearly two decades to a lovely Thai girl, herpes can be dormant for a long time, so you could have gotten it anytime before you met her, but more than likely not (respectfully), I got mine from the wife, well at least I think I did, but who cares, as you say, you live with it. No jealousy, raised by her grandparents after primary school as the high school was in their hood and far from her parents house, although she has sisters and a mother and father, never asks for money too. As for affection, she gives, I give, it's reciprocal, she loves her space as I do, not in each others pockets, and she does take good care of me, doesn't work, so has the time, not lazy. She is also very beautiful, but that is only the exterior, what has yours under the exterior, doesn't like affection, that comes naturally, it is not taught, my wife's parents didn't teach her affection, it's not high in Thai culture, so I am told, but come on, when your into someone, your into someone, she can see that on YouTube, surely. To me, sounds like she's in a safe place and just chilling to see where it goes, doesn't have to work etc etc. Like I said before, look past the looks and the bedroom, albeit it they are important, I mean does she have a brain, law student, have you sighted the degree, Thai women can come up with whatever stories they want that so to keep their true nature covered. You can roll the dice & trust her all you want, but only invest as much as you're prepared to lose, enjoy it while it lasts, but to me it sounds like you see things not adding up. Good luck -
I am in the same boat as you, about a 200km round trip. Have you thought of ringing them. I remember last time I did my 90 days on line, I got an email back the next day saying declined, contact your immigration office. I rang them, explained, and they said hmm, try again, I did, and the 90 days was approved, perhaps there was a glitch in the system, I would contact immigration and then try again, if they say to, might save you that dreaded round trip.

I don't eat processed foods during those 9 months, and never eat processed foods as a matter of fact. I love European foods which my wife cooks, we use the best oils and ingredients, albeit the quantity is a little over the top, but the quality of the foods is as good as you can get it. If I die eating healthy foods, it will be the way to go for me 🙂

Are you due to renew your annual extension on that date, because if you are, they won't renew you a further 90 days, happened to me. Took my passport with application in, they gave me my passport back and said once approved, will provide me with a new 90 days, as they did. I didn't like not having a new 90 days, but they said it is the way the system works and of course I had no issue, show the pending stamp date if anyone asks in the mean time.

I diet 3 months a year to lose weight. I gain weight the other 9 as I like to indulge in foods I like, which add weight, (healthy foods that is) but higher fats, which usually add 12kg during those 9 months. To reduce my weight, I reduce my caloric intake by 500 grams per day and burn 300 to 500 calories a day walking. Eat foods that keep you fuller, like eggs, Basmati rice, low GI pastas etc and add a protein shake in per day. I don't eat red meat, you can buy porch chops for 85% cheaper than imported red meat, i.e. 21 baht per pork chop vs 149 baht for imported read meat. I love Wild Tasmanian Salmon, but it is expensive, but very good for you and tastes better than that farm bred Salmon that they sell at Lotus for 79 baht which is full of bacteria. Depending on your age, if 60 + you need to keep that protein up to keep what muscle you have, otherwise you will lose it. If your 60+ and want to build muscle, would suggest you just do Calisthenics as weight lifting at that age takes the muscles longer to recover and damages easier. I'm mid 60's, tall and have a good physic, even when I put on the 12 kg, so there is truth to that saying, you are what you eat. When I lose the 12kg I am told I am too skinny, but skinny is healthy IMO.

Idealist, LOL, I grew up in the streets of a rough neighborhood, no knives, lots of other things to grab if losing the fight, but then again, those that chose to grab other things, ended up getting hurt worse. You obviously carrying. -

Any man who carries a knife is a coward IMO. Hope he gets life in the Bangkok Hilton, alcohol is no excuse, e.g. he had the knife before he started drinking. Too bad for the Ozzie and his family, so a young a mans life is lost, because of a gutless bastard. -
If you are referring to interest here, I would assume it's minimal as the account is a daily transactable account, e.g. I don't want to lock up my funds for a higher rate. The reason I do that is that I draw down on the money to survive on. I have the same account back home, but they think I am a resident of my home country, and as there is a tax threshold, I pay no tax on interest earned back there. Now you might say, why not tell them you are a non resident and allow them to collect the withholding tax (10%). Fact of the matter is, I don't trust banks and I don't want them passing my account information onto anyone, as they do, do this.

So I managed to transfer a couple of years worth of my monthly living expenses into my Thai Bank account prior to 31 December 2023, which should last me for 2 years. From what I can gather is, if I don't transfer any money into my account from here on, I don't need to lodge a tax return right or pay tax ? Just prior to my monthly living expenses running out in 2 years, now say 18 months, I am due for an overseas trip back to my homeland, and as I am taking the family, I am figuring that if I withdraw and give each person the maximum allowed under the threshold of my home country without having to declare it when I return to Thailand, I stand a good chance of not having to pay tax on it as well ? I believe the maximum allowed into Thailand is about $20k USD per person ? Does anyone see a problem with me bringing in an amount under the allowable amount into Thailand, e.g. 20k baht for me, same for wife and same for a couple of kids. I also heard on the grapevine that using a foreign debit or credit card in Thailand does not constitute a remittance. Obviously I am looking at avoiding or minimizing paying any tax legally while living in Thailand, after all, I don't get anything for it, e.g. I spend about a million a year so I contribute to the Thai economy, no free hospital cover, double charges for most National Parks etc etc.

British Couple Outraged Over £9 Tin of Heinz Beans in Thailand

I'm surprised that Asean Now would publish such an article without confirming the price first. You see I did a little research, knowing which franchise it is that they were referring too. I also checked the prices of the same product back in Oz. I see that the store sells 6 cans for 1,320 baht, now that's 220 baht each, perhaps the 420 baht is for 2 cans, after all, it is as clear as daylight that on the top of the can facing, it says multi pack, which works out to about $9.00 AUS a can, not $18 AUS a can as they are suggesting. That said, it still is about 3 times more expensive than in Oz 🙂
