Update: I did exactly what you suggested Sheryl, i.e. changed my answer to tax residency, I said I lived here for over 180 days a year, however as I do not derive an income I consider myself as a resident of Thailand, if you wish to put me down as a tax resident by definition, that is up to you, however as I do not derive an income and never will, I consider myself a resident of Thailand. Their reply which took a while is below, hopefully they stop pestering me now. Thank you, the XXX Tax Team has successfully verified your details. Please ignore any further correspondence regarding your foreign tax residency details within the next 2 weeks. Nothing has really changed Bob, apart from Thai's have very little to celebrate when it comes to working for basically nothing, while inflation chews into the little earnings that they do make. I live in the North-East of the country, away from most people which suites me down to the ground. My interactions with Thai's has always been pleasant, did it ever occur to you that most Thai's who don't speak English freeze up when they see a farang, e.g. oh s.hit I hope he doesn't come to me, happened to me at a chemist the other day, I read the girl from a mile away, so I dialed the wife, smiled at the girl and handed her the mobile. She got me what I needed, I smiled, she smiled, started to relax and I left. I believe Thai's want to interact, but are scared of the language barrier and or how the falang will react, i.e. will he be a cranky one, I always smile, it breaks the ice, and yes, most will give you that stare of, I'm not sure, but a smile goes a long way. It also helps if you dress nicely, smell nice and take care of those pearly whites. Thai's are not racists, they won't go out of their way to help you, as mentioned language barrier, but try smiling, not waiing, nothing over the top, but make them feel that you are on their level, not above, not below and you might see things a little different. Rule number 1, never expect Rule number 2, repeat rule number 1 Good luck living in the LOS

You have to be very patient, and allow her to finish her smelly fish first, after that, she will be ready, the smile usually gives you the green light. Once you see the smile, move in real close, close your eyes and pucker up, if you open your eyes during the kiss and feel that your surroundings are different to before you closed your eyes, your in trouble.

Richard Burrows, Phuket's 'Peter Smith', faces 30 more charges
4MyEgo replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
If he is guilty and charged, perhaps a mishap at the court stairs on the way out would save everyone a lot of expense, with those pounds going to others more worthy of it. Also if there is a hell, may he burn with pain for the next 80 years. -
If there is any mold about at your place and your being exposed to it, that could be the culprit. Vitamin C & D daily and as Sheryl also suggested, Zink.

They should only be interested in updating your Passport, regardless when you opened your account. If you feel they will give you grief, then tell them nothing. -
Engaging with Russians during wartime in Thailand?

So it was legitimate for Ukraine to bomb the bridge which is in Crimea, not Russia. Do you hear yourself.....LOL -

So the bombing of a bridge in Crimea buy Ukraine is not a terrorist attack, hmmm, what would you call it then ? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jul/17/first-thing-explosions-on-kerch-bridge-linking-crimea-and-russia -
Engaging with Russians during wartime in Thailand?
4MyEgo replied to Jingthing's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Nor the Jews by the Nazi's, don't you think we all need to move forward and stop with the BS. Massacres have happened throughout history, and in my opinion, the only aggressor that I see is America who creates wars to serve it's purpose, nothing to do with what happened in the past. What you have to ask yourself is, what history there is between the Russian's and the Ukraine's is between the Russian's and the Ukraine's, NATO is a load of crap, as is the United Nations Council. Interesting video released yesterday where Piers Morgan interviews an American Professor who had been at the coalface of this for decades, dare to open your mind ? See it in the above post. -

Not my opinion, just stating what the Russian, I mean Ukrainian told me.....LoL I don't pick sides, I just see things for what they are, "listen", nut not to mainstream media, they are an evil, then I decide who is right and who is wrong. I know it's difficult for the boomers to get their head out of the sand and keep an open mind. This American Professor sums it up pretty much the way it is, and why it is the way it is, but then again, no doubt you will say his opinion is one-sided....LOL The interview with Piers Morgan was only yesterday. -
Engaging with Russians during wartime in Thailand?

Agree, that said, I only really know one and he doesn't want to return to go to war as he has family here, so he has skipped. When ever I see him at the bar, I call out, hey, my Ukrainian friend, how are you, and he laughs, easy going guy to get on with, about 40, great sense of humor, and knows a lot about history and this is basically how he summed it up for me regarding, as you said; it's Putin and co forcing them to fight, but not for nothing. Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of Russians were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: Remember someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). He said, we should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland he said. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens—theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. He said the whole world needs to know about it he said, but they are fed what they want to feed them. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The Azov troops trapped in the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but Azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch Bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The 2nd terrorist attack on the Kerch Bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. I just passing on what he told me, obviously there was much more, to sum it up, he said, NATO is an evil, it is not what they are projecting it to be to us, it is a useful tool which helps them do whatever they want to do, and of course they pay for it. He added, we get fed a lot of propaganda, that said, he said that he didn't want to fight for his country, because governments use people to protect their rights for freedom, which to him was a load of crap, it's big business to protect their interests, and NATO pushing forward made a huge mistake, why because Putin, will use Nuks in the end, if pushed.- 338 replies

As I don't meet the criteria, I prefer the title "resident" LOL https://www.expattaxthailand.com/tax-identification-number-thailand/#:~:text=If you receive or remit,Tax Identification Number (TIN).
-
As I do not derive an income from my overseas funds, I am not required to have a TIN, e.g. I am a resident as I am here for over 180 days, I am a tax resident when I am here over a 180 days and derive an income. I believe that to be as straight forward as it can be. All of the above said, when the legislation states that a resident, regardless whether they derive an income or not must have a TIN, then I suppose I will be forced to get one, however my interpretation of the legislation doesn't state that at the moment, although I could be wrong 😁 If you receive or remit assessable income in Thailand and reside in Thailand for 180 days or more, you need a Tax Identification Number (TIN).Oct 3, 2566 BE

Why don't we all rush out and get TIN's like good obedient willing tax payers and get nothing in return, especially when it's not mandatory.

In my opinion, it's been too hard to tax foreigners in the past, so they stick with what they know, that, and of course, it could be potentially stirring up a hornets nest if they did start taxing Expats as we already contribute to the Thai economy. They are probably seeing if they can get Expats to file for TIN's & lodge tax returns by circulating news articles to spook a few, can't catch them all, so catch what you can (the so called honest ones) who want to comply to what I believe is a ridiculous potential revenue raiser. I would, as I mentioned before, just keep enjoying Thailand for what it has to offer and don't worry about anything until they come knocking on your door, suffice to say, it's pointless worrying about something we have no control over. -
Thai commando takes taxi driver for a ride after fare fraud fiasco
4MyEgo replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I wonder how many other scumbags are out there doing this to people, especially in tourist places. The above said, I haven't caught a taxi here in a decade, I always book a private car for a fixed price, to hell with them, let them eat with the stray dogs and cats for all I care. -

Avoid any assistance from HK at all costs in my opinion as he has no idea what he is talking about. Fortunately for me, after arguing with him many times on this topic, we almost lost this topic, so I decided it easier to block him, and that was the best decision that I made, not only for me, but for the topic, albeit I see he's still at it, i.e. he just can't let go, so anyone who takes his advice, deserves what they asked for IMO. -
Under section 41 of the Revenue Code an individual Thai citizen or foreigner who lives in Thailand for one or more periods totaling at least 180 days in any tax (calendar) year is, for tax purposes, deemed a resident of Thailand and subject to tax on all assessable income derived from sources within the country, ... The way I read section 41 i.e. Thailand's tax code is as follows: "deemed a resident of Thailand and subject to tax on all assessable income derived from sources within the country. I believe that I do not misunderstand what a resident of Thailand means, and the fact that I do not have an assessable income, means that I am not a resident for tax purposes, this Is very clear to me, I can't see how it is not for you, or anyone else. One might say, I am splitting hairs, well if that is the case, so be it, it is what it is. That's not to say that if I had an assessable income, I wouldn't be a resident for tax purposes, but until I derive an income, I am just a resident, am I not, and if asked any questions, e.g. are you a tax resident of Thailand, then I would have to reply, NO.

I would suggest that the DTA that has been in use since 1989 will stand, i.e. that they won't tax you, however someone else will tell you the DTA is changing, with nothing to support his statements. Just carry on enjoying your time in Thailand and let the governments around the world sort out the mess that they created by overprinting money, now wanting it back to try to get their FU sorted. -
I won't comply simply because I am not required to have a TIN, no more than a child at school is not required to have one, simply because they do not have an assessable income, the same as me. Fortunately for me, I have another account with an address back home for the banks records, why, so I don't pay withholding tax, no, so if ever I get cancelled by the 2nd bank, I have the other account. Banks are just that, banks, and governments putting controls on them to keep their slaves in check, doesn't go down well with me, as a bank should be there to deposit and withdraw funds, and if they feel their is suspicious activity going on, then they can report it to the government. I don't believe in the BS façade of the money laundering Krap, each to their own, I will see what comes of this and if they cancel me out, well I will just continue using my other account. As for the withholding tax not being paid, I will address that issue when and if it arises 🙂

She changed the aircon again. Time for divorce?
4MyEgo replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
We have a few air conditioners & my wife has never turned one on, she leaves it to her biatch to do that, as I pay the electricity bill, she can turn it on whenever she wants, and at whatever temperature she wants, but she doesn't, as I said above, she has her biatch to do it for her, but never asks, I do it automatically when I feel it's getting hot. I'm not sure who is controlling the air con temperatures, but 25 at night, or during the day is a good temp, with or without a fan to circulate the air, depending on the size of your room/s. Just enjoy it, and if it bothers you, i.e. it's too cold or is going to cost you too much in electricity costs, just tell your wife that; A) It's too cold for you if it's under 25 and if she doesn't listen, then go to B B) Tell her that your not going to pay the electricity bill, if A&B fall on deaf ears, go to C C) Move to a hotel for a couple of days and tell her that you will make this a permanent move if she likes. Naturally don't go to C unless your prepared to call her bluff 🙂
