  1. I've never find these dealers with their wares in glass cabinet to have cheaper price than big brand stores, even in BigC where they rented rows of shops just outside the tills, often the same phones is cheaper inside the proper store

  2. Thai machine also beeps when the card is out also, but the problem is the last screen that asks if you want the receipts or not, if you don't press the button, it waits quite a while until it spit out the card, a lot of people lost their card this way

  3. Shortage of 50 and 25 sataang is everywhere, at Max value they had a sign that they'll give sweets in lieu of the change, Foodland had a sign that they'll happily count and change your piggy bank, most shops would just round up in favour of the customer

Maybe connected with the mint bringing in a new design for the new reign?

  4. Went earlier this month, 140 a day, the car park is under military guard so relatively secure.

There are limited covered parking bays but they are taken on the two weekdays morning (around 4-5AM) I went, managed to find a spot on the edge of the car park.

Granted, the covering aren't that 'covered' it's like one of those back of the Tesco carpark structure, so your car's still exposed to some elements.

on my day back in the evening on Sunday it was even more full than when I left, with cars double parked left and right

  5. The only one that seem to follow the local vernacular is probably the 'Tee Din' for land office

The south pattaya/3rd road 'Sue Sarn' 'Communication' was either Mityon or Tony's before...

It's probably named for the CAT telecom round the corner... but there is a Soi Sophon named after the cable TV, which is quite communicationy...

Also I think there is a new sign for Central road's big C Extra for the junction with Arunothai which is now named after a school or something which I can't recall despite going pass the sign everyday....

granted, it probably simplify things like police's radio and helps ambulance service

Some of the already used official street names is even more confusing like Soi Bonkot where Bonkot means lotus... you'd thing that'd be the official name of Soi Buakhao (White Lotus) right?

  6. It's a hotel and it happened yesterday, already in the news.

Happened to a group of local government on conference from the north

lift fell just as one guy managed to step out, scraping the shirt off his back, while the rest of the people in the lift fell to the ground floor

  7. these 'new' junction names will probabably went the same way with most of the 'official' street names in Pattaya, where the 'local' names is better known and is the only one used in local venacular

  8. hanuman.gif

This is the Thai hanuman, hence the confusion.... most Thais in Pattaya is probably only aware of one named monkey character from the Ramayana epic which is Hanuman, so when they saw a mythical monkey statue... Hanuman!

doesn't help if you say to baht bus or motorcycle taxis that you want to go to the 'Machanu' corner though....

The Hanuman junction in Jomtien has also sprouted one of these signs but it doesn't read Hanuman. All rather counter-productive really.

That statue there has never been Hanuman, it is Machanu fish-monkey (which fits the beach theme a lot better) just because the locals are ignorant and has been calling it 'Hanuman' since forever doesn't make it right

  10. I've found this stripped head screw extractor at one of the high-end Japanese tool shop

    anex-damaged-screw-remover-kit-ank2-3-4.

one side is a drill bit that fits in normal screwdriver/drill bit holder and the other a reverse thread that digs into the hole counterclockwise and undoing the stripped screw out... saved my ass many times... not as drastic as needing to drill the offending screw out

  11. The concrete bollards are probably only temporary until they've resurfaced the road properly, but it is foreseeable that northbound traffic that emerges from the tunnel that doesn't want to turn onto Hwy.7 will clash with all the traffic from Central road up that didn't use the tunnel but want to merge on the Hwy 7 flyover

  12. If you don't have credit card you can book online and pay at the Major cinema box office at the Avenue on 2nd road or other pay points around town,   and wait for the ticket to be delivered.

But if you want to pay and pick up your ticket straight away, only option is ThaiTickerMajor office, nearest one is Central Bangna in Bangkok

    That was not very nice.

The guy only want's a short  holiday with his family and costing it out.

    What's wrong with that .

what a retarded comment you made   :bah:

Well, at least it'll serve the OP in preparing himself to the 'quality' of resident of Pattaya City

    Not what I refer too.

These 4 stops were done as usual additionally to what I describe.

The bus that I rode did not go along HW7.

It instead drove along HW36 to Sukhumvit.

    So far so bad already,

BUT then I expected he would do the left turn south down to Pattaya (which I experienced on another ride).

No, he turned right to the north heading towards Banglamung.

Don't know exactly how far he went, a couple of kilometers.

The doing a U-turn, dropping off a single lady at same intersection I never knew before.

Then down south and doing two more arbitrary stops before reaching Nuea.

I also used this bus more than once and this was exceptional.

    Almost 2.5 hours to Klang.

Sounds like 'Rong Poh' bus from Ekamai detours back up north and stop there often too

Then there'd be the stop in Naklua under the pedestrian bridge, then at the Temple opposite Bangkok Pattaya hospital

You think I dream about fresh markets at night? LOL

Yes, big restaurant chains have better suppliers than local market stall holders... and get better prices too. Sure, small Thai restaurants will be going down to local markets.

Can you imagine the purchasing manager of MK, or Fuji going down to the local fresh markets for his veggies? LOL

Talking generally here, there are suppliers that deliver direct from their source, but most of the vegs in Thailand go through the same wholesale market

All the supermarket, fresh market and restaurant get their produce from the big wholesale market like Talad Thai in Pathum Thani north of Bangkok, go there at 3-4AM and you'll see all the trucks from the supermarket picking up their vegetables along with the small guys in their mobile grocery store on the back of the pick up truck

The difference between the Supermarket and the little guys on the back of a pickup or the market is how long they keep the vegetables for, and how they transport it from the wholesale market,

Not all the vendor down your local fresh market get to drive to Bangkok and back every morning, they might get it from a middle man locally, and the more hands it pass through, the less days the goods stay fresh for... and the bigger supermarket can afford to test for pesticides and pack it in nice plastic and mark it up

  16. Had a trip coming up this weekend, so decide to did a trial run to the airport see how things go....
Drove down from Central Pattaya early this morning, took the Silverlake road into 331 and straight down to Sukhumvit... at the junction between Sukhumvit and 331 I turned left into Sukhumvit from 331 and then right into the base's main entrance, stopping for the checkpoint... and after a long stretch of very clean but desserted road in the base. looks like I am almost lost in the base and I was going to complain that there seem to be a lack of signage for the 'International' Airport but I just keep going straight and found another checkpoint and what appears to be an exit to the main bit of the base... then I found many signs pointing to the Airport....

After consulting the map, looks like the Main entrance is actually down the 3126 road that I should have continued on at the intersection with the Suk and eventually I'd arrive at the entrance that'd take me to the Airport.

Question is.. do the military mind people taking shortcut through their base?

Which entrance should I've used instead? The main road (where there's a big seaplane on static display) down the base is like a six lane parade, well lit and spotlessly clean, the 'proper' entrance road is just a single carriageway and looks very dark in the early hours of this morning.

  17. Burapha Withi expressway, then the Highway 9 ring road, exit at Sri Nakarin road and keep going south and turn left into Sukhumvit

Avoid Highway 7 as there are roadworks just after the Airport, long queues to get into the 9

    on google maps

Taking the 'old' Sukhumvit all the way from Chon buri is a bit meandering but doable if you have the time and enjoy the sight of 'rural' Thailand

  18. CNG/NGV in Bangkok was always a problem with the 'stock' being two trailers hitched somewhere out the back and during peak hours, you could see queues of taxis waiting to get fuel snaking out onto the road... and once the gas in that two trailer run out, it's a long wait until another one arrive

Not so much problem in Pattaya as we have access to the pipeline with NGV stations along the route like the 36 and many side roads along the 7 that taps in to the pipeline so no need to wait for the gas trailer to wade through traffic to replenish the stock at the station.

But my impression is that most of Rueng Rueng's coach, at least the old Mercedez ones are running diesel, not cng. Maybe only the newer Chinese coaches need to fuel up with CNG as they have diesel pump at their depot and North Pattaya, actually come to think of it, their Bang Na depot is a CNG station. they probably don't do this with every run as well as my understanding is that they do load the undercarriages with tanks for the gas and the coach can go a long while without needing to fuel up.

Being Thailand, I'm at least thankful that the driver had the foresight to fill up before he runs out and potentially stranding you on the side of the road

I've had for worse experience on Rueng Rueng to Bangkok when the driver decides to make a detour into Sriracha down some small sois to pick up what appears to be his Lunch from a street stll and/or wife
