  1. different contractors, the sewer/storm drains is one job, and the re-paving of road surface is by another contractor, and may not even be ordered by the same authorities, the city or water might be able responsible for the drain, but the road is under highways department, and good luck getting Thais to plan things to finish together

  2. he can wait out the statue of limitation of 10 years, after which they stop looking to prosecute him, he can get his ID card back by applying for it at the Amphur,

but getting other papers from the government will be difficult, he will be on the Army's or Central Tabien Ban (Housebook) registry, essentially homeless in the eye of the law and good luck getting anything that require government involvement, from moving into houses, driving license, passport, owning land or getting mobile phone bills, also no chance of getting proper jobs

to be able to be moved out of the Army's housebook, he'd either have to surrender himself to the military, he'd have to to time if he go to them before the 10 years is up

Are you sure it's Air Asia and not Thai Vietjet?

TVJ will only let you pay per kg on top of an existing baggage booking. For example, if you have prepaid for 10kg and have 12kg, you can pay per kg for the extra 2. But if you haven't paid for any, you will have to pay for a 20kg bag, you can't just pay for 2kg. They only offer 10kg & 20kg at the airport, but there's a bigger range for prebooking. The cost difference is substantial, for a different domestic flight, a 20kg bag was something like 350 THB in advance or 1,000 THB at the airport. Excess was 250 or 300 THB per kg, around that price. Being 1kg over, worked out as slightly less than pre-booking a 20kg bag.

For AirAsia, you can amend the prepaid from say 20-30kg by going to a booking counter or online before going to the check in desk, which will be significantly cheaper than being charged excess baggage weight

  5. The government is probably targeting Thais with overseas income, the fact that expat pensioners is caught by this is probably not even on the government's radar.

The fact that for months, the expat retiree community hasn't made noise loud enough to reach or for the government to response just proves how insignificant this particular population is

proves them wrong by leaving, make Pattaya empty and in ruins, that'll show them.

If you head over there, go up to the very top floor.   They have got an amazing selection of classic VW Beetles, Karman Ghias, Porsche, Ferrarri, motorcycles.......and what appears to be a couple of the Royal Family Rolls Royces.....early 50's vintage.   Every single one of the cars in in amazing condition.

The noise level on the first few floors is laughable.....the typical Thai blaring music and just the din of all the people.   But once you get up to the top, it's very quiet and they've got some classical music playing, so pleasant environment to view the cars.

There's also a Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle on display, sublime

  7. if your aircon 'technician' suggests you refill the refrigerant periodically, you've been conned.

only case where filling is easier than finding the leaks and fixing it is in big, whole building hvac or restaurant style walk in freezer where the runs could be significant and leeks hard to reach

for most split units, leaks are easily found and fixable in case of copper or the whole coils need replacement if your unit's got aluminum coils

I had IKEA meatballs together with soda for something like 160 THB. Great value.

I haven't found a shortcut through the displays to the Restaurant yet, I know there should be way to get to Restaurant from the Entrance, there are one at Bangna

If they still give free tea/coffee for members and with easy access from Soi 22 with the side entrance the Ikea restaurant could be a popular spot for pensioners (if there's any left in the area)

I am often in Terminal 21, which is very near to my home and I like it more than any other shopping mall.

They have easily accessible lifts on two sides so it is easy to just go to one shop and get out again. And anybody who likes to ride elevators and stroll through the floors also has that opportunity.

It's sad when some malls, including Emsphere, basically force people to walk in circles.

There's a big glass elevator on the left in front of the building with view of the park, which I only discovered after making my way up to the top floor, agreed that the lift are a bit hidden away on lower floors

How do idiots in Thailand get into such high stations? By bribery and corruption!

This statement is so stupid that after 17 years here I am still amazed by the lack of the understanding of the English language. Basically their defence of their con is a lie.

Their is no such thing as a service charge in Blood Donation The blood donors are offering their donations, not having a treatment for their health. If you must have a service charge it needs to be paid by the companies that use the blood.

I was a donor from 18 until I was in my 50s and had to stop because of tablets I needed for my health. When I was in my 20s I was asked to paticipate in the plasmapheresis programme they had started and were asking all Rhesus Negative donors if they could take part. After we had given our first 100 donations they invited us to attend a reception at Regents Park in london in the evening, the only time I had Champagne and Caviar on the National Health Service.

With the blood we donated the laboratories managed to eliminate the cause of babies and somtimes mothers at her second birthing. Much later in life I remembered my mother and my new sister were away from home for several weeks still having nurses looking after them - I was the first child and I'm Rhesus negative, my sister is still alive in the Uk at 76 years of age. I am so pleased that I took place in the experiments. I stopped being a donor when I had made 197 donations.

Information on Plasmapheresis can be found Wikipedia.

I'm also amazed at the English proficiency of the supposedly natives themselves,

the article, while probably translated from Thai clearly states that the charge was paid by the recipients of blood donations,

  11. The wide car parking lanes are actually for both way traffic, the Thais are already complaining that even typical pickup trucks turning circle are difficult with lanes full of cars coming the other way

Not floor 1, 2, 3. No! G, GM, M, 1, 2, 3...  Why make it easy if you can also annoy everyone?

Typical Thai malls would hide lots of floor numbers with Mezzanine and such... makes an easier when selling to potential renters (shops) and charging more rent

M1 or M2 sounds just next to ground or where the Skywalks connects, whereas in actual you're already on 3rd or 4th floor

Level 2 here sounds not far away but you're already 5 floors up from ground

In most malls they'd have something like Cinema or restaurants up top to at least force some foot traffic up, here Ikea's doing that

  13. one obvious loophole seen in public so far,

    Seen earlier this year

The Prodrive P25, a 'restomod' Subaru from 1998 was imported from the UK and sold for 55M Baht, because in the UK it was registered as small volume 'new' car or Kit car equivalent, and Thailand is OK with that since it's a 'new' car

So if you can set up a shell company in the UK and provide sufficient paper that the car is 'new' you can import them into Thailand

  14. A part of it is 'bonded manufacturing' even though they're made in Rayong, the origin is still EU if it were to be sold in Thailand it would have to be 'imported' into Thailand, a visit to the various industrial estate would see custom gates sprinkled about, From Ducatis to Triumph and BMWs, so the only savings over wholly imported cars are the labour used in the assembly

even if those manufacturer were to made a car in Thailand from scratch and not classify as 'imports' they wouldn't sell it too cheaply to undercut their other imported models

look at BMWs and Volvos EV models from China where they got 0% tariff, they won't lower the price too much as they have same model with petrol engine that's got the import tax

I am just playing around with a thought,  If someone makes 250,000 thb it means at 5% 12,500 thb which is somewhat high, maybe a gradual rate downwards and a maximum

Employers would not have to provide additional health cover, as mine did/does, they could involve more private hospitals to accept the card... even make it mandatory given the oath doctors take

Like I said, just  a thought and absolutely nothing else

social security contributions is calculated from the capped maximum income of 15,000 per month, that works out to 750baht only,
